The vast majority of Skaven players are cheaters.

That is just a silly statement. By extension, most warhammer players are cheaters as all i know have forgotten a detail or two from time to time. The skaven army has quite a few special rules, that can slip from time to time, but to simply state that they are mostly cheaters is simply wrong.

Weapon teams follow the same targeting restrictions as characters do, except that they have to be within 3 inches of their parent unit to benefit from that...

in 6. th edition that meant they could only be targeted when they were the closest target by both missile fire and magic missiles.

in 7.th edition that means they are f****d, as they can always be targeted if they can be seen.

as for the ranks:  If they loose the rank bonus, they loose the ld bonus.. Simple as that... they have to watch out for flank charges, and if they start running, they will not likely turn arround as fleeing troops dont have rankbonuses.

They ARE skirmishers.  But as they have US 2 pr model, they do not benefit from -1 to hit skirmishers.

Try setting up "no fly" zones with 'nilla knights

Make sure that they cannot land in their prefered place by setting up a few knight to charge them there if they do.

They dont negate ranks, so dont bother protecting your big blocks, but protect your warmachines and handgunners.

When the pegasi then move arround your nilla knights to set up a charge against your cannons, then move your knights to block the charge and allign them so if the pegasi charges your knights and breaks them you will subsequently draw the pegasi out in the middle of your firering arch of all the rest of your guns.

Very nice idea!.. I would love to give a hand also. both in testing and perhaps some light coding if needed. (professional java developer)

Its a great idea. especially the magic items will proove difficult, but nothing a bright mind wont be able to solve...

I had a go at a simplified version of a tabletop simulator and especially the magic tave me a few difficulties.. And real life got in the way of the project.

roll to hit.
reroll misses
reroll all hits (including rerolls).

I am happy that they removed the ruling though.. keep it simple is better.. no reroll of rerolls.

From the diagram given - I would have wheeled the detachment so that the 'outside' front rank trooper missed the back of the knight and then made contact with the side of the enemy.

This would have meant that the 'inside' front rank trooper was probably facing rank two ro three of your parent unit but you have maximised the number of models possible in contact.

As far as I know a detachment countercharge is under no obligation to engage the whole front rank.

Don't worry too much about it.. you need to read the rulebook and need help designing your army, but its all doable before saturday.

The rules changes are mostly for the better, and eloquently sumarized above.

and once you start reading, you will find that one of the greatest improvements to the rulebook ever is that is now has an index  :-o

I have a feeling that the general concensus is that someone touched by chaos is doomed.

Even if the deamon is "expelled" i doubt anyone in their right mind would want a previously possessed person as a neighbor. so a light burning might seem in order.

if only... But NOOooooOOOooo... Our poor generals would never pick up a halberd.. Captains can wield them, but not our generals..

(I wanted to field my general on a griffon with a halberd... But no... Now i have to field a Waltar in stead  :dry: )

Sounds a bit like something that would be more at home in a skaven army though  :biggriin:

2 things... He looks like he will fall over backwards, the backpack looks extremely heavy. A bit of filing and detailing on the backpack might make it look more "engineery". Tipping the model a bit forward might also help him not looking like he is already falling.

You might want to try to take a new set of pictures.. Try taking them with a uniformly coloured background (grey or white for preference)  a few pieces of paper is often enouhg.. That helps the camera focus on the most interesting thing, the figure.

Heres mines from my gaming experance..
Best Empire unit:Swordsmen
Worst Empire unit:Engineer
Best Warhammer unit:Wardancers
Worst Warhammer unit:Skaven slaves

Odd... For the price, i would actually vote the Skaven slaves as the Best unit.
US 20,3 ranks, LD 10 (if close to the general)  for 40 points???  They have often beaten units worth 10 times as much for me...

I've yet to base my war alter, and it was getting late, so we guessed three across from looking at the model.  OK, so she would have gone 4 wide.  On the next turn, she could not have wrapped the model to bring say six figures into combat(ala 40k)

Wrapping is gone.. existed in 6.th edition, doesn't any longer... And she would only have been able to reform her unit of she won combat anyway.

You can affect how many of your opponents figures you want to engage, when you charge a skirmishing unit. 
It is correct that the first model stays excatly where it is hit, but the rest of the skirmishing unit is brought up into a neat rankendavouring to bring as any figures into combat as possible.

2 swarms (40mm)
should have been fully touching 3 knights (3*25 mm) and corner to corner with an aditional 2 knights.

If you didn't hit the opponent as you should, you might only get 4 knights into base to base contact...
If you clipped one swarm (BAD!! NEVER DO SO!!) you would be corner to corner with that one and the other swarm aligned right next to it would only leave you with 2 knights in combat.

You wont ever get 6 knights into combat with 2 40mm figures in a skirmishing unit.. They have to align next to each other with bases touching.

She should have filled up your entire frontage with figures, before impacthits was resolved. She should then have removed the 3 casualties from the back rank, and keeping in mind how many casualties she had suffered should have taken any return blows she could.

If I am not mistaking, the chariot should be 50 mm wide, and thus should be abel to engage 4 20 mm models with its front.

That means one model attacks back first turn, and most likely all four (or whatever survived) in subsequent turns.

In my experience, they are "Kinda" balanced... Their strengths and weaknesses do on paper make for a balanced army.

The problem is that these armies are very specialliced. They only focus on one thing, and they do this thing extremely well.

In a normal 1 on 1 battle where you know your opponents race, these armies are fairly beatable, however in a tournament setting, the SOC lists can be tailored to be extremely effective against "All commers" lists.

While your army has to be atleast passable in all phases or aspects of the game to be succesfull, they can often ignore their weaknesses and focus only on their strengths.

They are not unbeatable, nor are they all evenly viable.. Some of them are however extremely good at what they are supposed to do
(the picture in my sig is from a SOC Slaanesh deamon army..  2 units with move 5 and 8 with move 10 leads to a very fast army and fast game... Perfect for a slow player in a tournament  :mrgreen:)

When people here start going on about how much worse the halberdier is compared to swordsmen, one thing they often neglect to mention is that the margin between the two isn't all that big...

But since most players here are aware of that margin (and most likely most players everywhere), the halberdier has gotten a rather tarnished reputation... This might lead your opponents to discard their effectivenes, and with just a few rolls above average, your mighty empire halberdiers might actually account well for themselves.  :happy:

They aren't as bad as all that, swordsmen are just a bit better on average :closed-eyes:

BTW. Its good to hear that our favored puffy shirt armed troops actually perform duties above guarding the baggage trains, without being disregarded as just another weak choice. :biggriin:

3. It is a problem.. If you want to use the griffon banner, you need combat detachments.. (or need to fight undead). Its not much fun against elves, that will just rally and try again :icon_confused:

combat gear for your bsb can often prove more fun and effective...

You will even have an effective magic phase once you get rid of one or two of the opponents mages...

I just have to wonder what have happened to your poor soldiers to scare you enough to set that as a minimum requirement... :icon_cry:

Hmm... Born of a human mother, you would have to explain why the neighbourgs didn't drown the wierd little skinny kid that didn't seem to grow and had those strange pointy ears.. *mutter mutter.. Mutant... mutter*

Born to an elven mother, you would just have to explain how she was making a living as an outcast from elven society (who would never accept the fact that she slept with and got pregnant with a human)

All this is of course explainable, but both serve as an effective limmiting factor to the amount of half elves in the warhammer world... and since the elves are notorious for their decline in numbers (they are apparently not all that strong breeders) the chance of ever getting pregnant with an elf in the mix could well be quite low... :mrgreen:

And you dont target a unit with the casket of souls, you just shoot it, but somehow the MR of any unit affected by it is still used to try and dispell the effect.

Pistols don't receive penalties for long range or moving and shooting though which mean both outriders at long range and pistoliers will hit on 5's no other modifiers considered.

except skirmishers, single mansized targets, cover and so on... Man.. I hate woodsies..
