The Parade Ground / The Norland Expeditionary Force v2.0 (2000 points)
« on: September 27, 2005, 05:14:55 PM »
I field a mounted preist with the VHS and he has proven to be highly efficent at offing enemy characters, his paltry 2 attacks means that he will almost always survive enemy retaliation. The last game I played he made 3x his points cost back just by killing characters in challenges.

I find my cannon quite conforting against wood elves as they invariably have a treeman and they are hard to get rid of using conventional means.

This may well be too powerful but it may be worth considering.

Give halberdiers the killing blow ability but lose there +1 S against cavalry. (to represent the ability of halberiders to pull riders from their mount and then to finish them off as they lie on the ground). They remain the same against infantry.

Personally I think that all state troops need to have WS 4, LD 8 and access to heavy armour to represent their superior training but we all know that this wount happen.

I used the gelt pegasus with the head swapped for a plastic empire warhorse. The rider is just a standard plastic knight remodeled to fit on the pegasus better. He still looks a little awkward but im happy enough with the result.

I was going to use a bretonian pegasus but the caparison just downt look right.

Has anyone tried mounting wings to a standard empire warhorse?

But BS4 IMO changes pretty much.

Yes it does but IMO it is more reflective of the training involved and downsides could be implemented (possibly somthing similar to the 'gets hot' rule for plasmaguns, but not as harsh, to reflect the unreliablity of handguns). Possibly the Necromunda dum dum bullet rules could be used. If you roll a 6 to hit and then a 6 again the firer suffers a wound (or shoots himself I cant remember which).

If the BS is kept the same there should be some kind of rule to reflect their training. Volley fire perhaps; charging enemies must take a panic test if the handgunners stand and shoot? fire in 2 ranks with a -1 to hit penalty (we have all seen Zulu  8) ? something.

LD 8 really reflects the professional soldiers motivation and disipline. As it stands a random free companion is as loyal and steadfast as a veteran swordsman. Obvious this will increase the points cost of state troops which has its own drawbacks but at least the fluff will fit the game better.

The current state troops stats and equipment doesnt fit their fluff. They are supposed to be elite, highly disciplined and motivated troops but they have the same stats as a militia archer. I would like to see all state troops with WS or BS 4 and LD 8 to reflect their professional nature.

A heavy armour upgrade for halberdiers and some minor halberd upgrade is also badly needed. Engineers need extensivly upgraded or removed as a hero option.

There is no need to add anymore troop options really as the Empire is well served in all areas. Well maybe some expendible light cav but you cant have everything  :engel:

The Electors' Forum / Manaan fluff
« on: July 17, 2005, 06:47:48 PM »
Im currently basing my army around a Nordland freistadt heavily influenced by the cult of manaan and the Imperial navy but I dont have any Manaan fluff other then his favoured colours and the fact that he is the god of the sea. Any pointers?

I dont really have them for a rank but as abalative armour and because there are 8 knights in a box :)

I think Ill go for the extra cavalry army as Im thinking off making myself a knightly order list as well as a more infantry based one and this will provide a good base.

The armies fluff is Nordland based (possibly some sort of Manaan cult list maybe, its still a WIP) but the amry itself is generic empire at this stage.

Why should knights not be 8 strong?

I have few state troops at the moment due to time/cash constraints. I also dont like spearmen but as I have 18 painted up...

I mean balanced as in not gimped. Im not to bothered about making an uber killy list.

I dont like having mounted characters in infantry regiments, it doesnt look right to me. He has the holy relic just to ensure that he doesnt get killed.

I just dont like caddies. If I keep keeping massacred becasue of the lack of them then I will field one but as it is Ill see what happens.

Maybe I should rephrase my original question, which list provides a better core army, bearing in mind that I will be getting another large regiemtn of swordsmen at some point.

Dont mind me Im only an  :x  noob

Ive just returned to fantasy and am in the process of rebuilding my Empire from scratch. There are a few options I would like some advice on.

I have 2 possible character selections:

Elector count with the sword of sigismund, holy relic, full plate and shield= 190

BSB with armour of meteoric iron= 105

Lvl 2 wizard= 95 (I dont like scroll caddies)

captain with lance, full plate, shield and pegasus= 114

Or

Elector count with armour of meteoric iron, holy relic and GW= 161

Lvl 2 wizard= 95

captain with pegasus, lance, shield, full plate= 114

Warrior priest of Mannan (sigmar rules) with heavy armour and shield (for the second troops option the preist will be mounted with a great weapon) = 101

Both of these options have possibilities but Im unsure which is best over all.

I also have 2 possible unit selections:

25 swordsmen with full command and the griffon banner
10 free company
10 archers= 380

8 knights with full command= 224

16 hand gunners = 128

6 huntsmen= 60

18 spearmen with full command and shields
9 free company

10 crossbowmen = 80

10 freecompany =50 (artillery guard)

6 pistoliers with a marksman with reapeater pistol = 131

Cannon = 100

Cannon = 100

Mortar = 75

Or

30 swordsmen with full command and the griffon banner
10 free company
10 archers= 420

8 knights with full command= 224

10 hand gunners = 80

5 huntsmen= 50

8 knights full command =224

10 crossbowmen = 80

6 pistoliers with a marksman with repeater pistol = 131

Cannon = 100

Cannon = 100

Mortar = 75

Again which is best for a general purpose army?
