WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Sigmar's Blood?

I had originally heard this would be a Forge World suppliment along the lines of the Chaos Dwarf one.

Could be one of those 'fluff books' like what they've been doing with 40k (Farsight etc)

I love the idea of a Kossar block.  I have one that I want to paint up and use.

The key is you need the boyar to make them stubborn.  Tool him up for defence.

As to if they are worth it...for 2 points more (Greatswords) you lose:
- your shooting attack
and gain:
- +1 WS and LD
- stubborn without needing a boyar
- 4+ save

She's the head of the Sisters of Sigmar in Mordheim.  "High Matriarch" I think is her title.

I'd like to see one with 2 Griffons as well.
Call it the Imperial Zoo (2 Griffons plus at least one Pegasus and some Demigryphs).

Since when do GW have exposed breasts on models?

Morathi?

But thats an old model as well Rufus, from around the time of the daemonettes isnt it?

It isn't that old.  We are talking the one on the Pegasus right?  That's probably from around the same time as the Daemonettes.
PS. those were the best Slannesh models GW ever produces, and not just for the breasts.

What lore are you using?
Does you Captain have Full Plate Armour?

Maybe lose the inner circle and give the Demi's a Standard or Muso.

Other then that no suggestions.

you want them in the army for "hold the line" and LD9 really.
i find that FP, E.shield, 4++ and crown of command is good for an infantry leader.

That's exactly how mine is tooled up.  His whole unit will die around him before he goes down.  And no one will run away.
Of course he has no punch whatsoever.

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: bring out your Greatswords
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:56:49 PM »
I have one unit of 40 Greatswords.  I won't leave home without it - it has never failed to do damage and it doesn't run away.  The bonus is that a Greatsword unit can be an anvil AND/OR a hammer depending on the situation.

Rieksguard won't do enough damage back to the enemy.

Rothgar - where are your supporting attacks in the example you sent.  It probably makes it even more in favour of the Orcs.  However, we have detachements to get in the way to help us choose our battles.

I'd want to be a Slannesh Chaos Lord that lives at the Silver Pinnacle...bring on the vampire ladies!   :icon_biggrin:

(apparently I have issues...)

A few tweaks to get the list up to 2400:

General of the Empire (Full Plate Armour, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Crown of Command, Luckstone) – 194 points
Captain of the Empire (Battle Standard Bearer, Full Plate Armour, Shield, Dragonhelm, Dawnstone) – 128 points
Captain of the Empire (Pegasus, Full Plate Armour, Charmed Shield, Shrieking Blade) – 126 Points
Warrior Priest (Heavy Armour, Shield) – 69 points
Warrior Priest (Heavy Armour, Shield) – 69 points
Battle Wizard (Lore of Fire, Level 2, Dispel Scroll, Dragonbane Gem) – 130 points

38 Halberdiers (Sergeant, Standard, Musician) – 258 points
General and Warrior Priest go here
15 Swordsmen Detachment – 105 points
5 Archer Detachment – 35 points
7 Knightly Orders (Inner Circle, Standard, Musician, Banner of Eternal Flame) – 205 points

38 Greatswords (Count’s Champion, Standard, Musician) – 448 points
BSB and Warrior Priest go here
15 Swordsmen Detachment – 105 points
5 Archer Detachment – 35 points
Great Cannon – 120 points
Great Cannon – 120 points

Steam Tank – 250 points

Army Total - 2397

I got to play two games this week with this List

Dark Elves
Dragon Lord, BSB on Foot, Level 2 Sorceress on Foot, 30 Spears, 16 Crossbows, Chariot, 2 Bolt Throwers, Hydra, 5 Cold One Knights, Assassin, 8 Shades

Highlights
-   One goal was to have my knights go up against the Hydra.  With their flaming banner and great weapons they should be able to do some damage.  Always striking last with their great weapons was a problem in this case
-   Wizard was great with his fireballs doing damage (including eventually crippling the Hydra).  Support from low casting warrior priests forces the opponent to think about their dispelling
-   Steam Tank ran over the dragon.  The thing is still awesome.
-   Pegasus captain did its job in taking out a bolt thrower
-   State Troops didn’t even make it into combat (crossbows fled and got caught by charging greatswords

I must say this wasn’t the most challenging game.  My opponent had even admitted his luck with dice had been horrible for months but I really think he poorly played that dragon.

Big win for the Empire.

Bretonnia
Fey Enchantress, Mounted BSB, 2x9 Knights of the Realm, 2x9 Knights Errant, 2x16 Archers, 10 Mounted Yeoman, 6 Pegasus Knights, 2 Trebuchet

Highlights
-   Stubborn units are awesome. A swordsmen detachment got changed in the flank by a unit of Knights of the Realm and held them up for 5 rounds of combat.  I need to work on support as I had nothing to counter with
-   Knights with Great Weapons worked well in this game taking a lance charge and killing knights in return
-   Heroic Killing Blow vs Steam Tank is bad
-   Swordsmen can also repel light cavalry charges with no sweat
-   Greatswords were killed to a man because not many could fight against the lance (the Fey Enchantress was in the way)
-   Again the Fire Mage made itself valuable by making an archer unit panic and run off the table
-   Cannon Counter battery is the best (even though it was the archers that took the last wound off the last trebuchet
-   Pegasus Captain protecting the rear made my opponent think about where to place his Pegasus Knights

Draw

A couple of notes after first few games
-   Enemy characters will definitely cause problems as I don’t have much that can take them in close combat.  Maybe shuffling some points to get some tools for the job.
-   Further thought on repelling flies is needed
-   My archers felt useless being in the wrong positions.  Definitely need to put further thought into what to do with them
-   How to protect my Warrior Priests while still keeping them cheap

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Is the Lord of the Rings game any good?
« on: November 30, 2012, 06:53:58 PM »
Good or bad, I call it different.
I've never played the War of the Ring but I've had some fun times with the Battle Strategy game.  It's easy to fight single combats but can get very in depth with all of the little extras (banners and might especially).

Personally, I think the best Tolkien game put out by GW is the Battle of Five Armies.  That's a great game!

Isn't a Night Goblin Warboss Leadership 7?  That's proabably the one army I would never go without a combat lord.

Infantry horde armies aren't cheap money wise, but I think they look the most impressive on the table top.  I'd go with the Goblin army as well.  Specifically Night Goblins to sprinkle in some squigs and squig hoppers.

I like the book.  Hate the new toys.  They don't feel "human" to me...

Purgatory is great!  Nothing to do and no worries other then being in purgatory...

I've had success too in painting white lines on grass.  It works great if you treat the paint like line chalk and just cake it on and when it's partially dry you brush the grass back up.

Got to get going on my vampire team again!

I'd actually like dice similar to Battlefleet Gothic order dice for the Empire.

2 sides each with symbols for each battle prayer.

Awesome!  Glad to see others going.  I'm working on what to take to bump it up to 2400.  I'm thinking Pegasus Captain.  I just need to add about 40 points in core to keep the list legal.

Hoping to get some pics up soon even though I'm a grossly slow painter.

Or not. Is the extent of Cathay actually defined somewhere?

The Celestial Empire of Cathay is mentioned as being massive in the Nagash trilogy.
