Well, all the chatter is over already... And I missed out on it  :icon_twisted: Curse you all  :biggriin:

But I'm back, for the while. I'm guessing Eurobash is cursed for me, and no I did not loose my army this time, but this time there were other things going on privatly.

However, I'm going to pick up the paintbrush soon. And this time my first project will be Imrik and Caradyan. It's just something I have to do for my little son Imrik (yes, he is named after the dragon riding High Elf prince) who rests in peace now :engel: It's the least I can do for him and might give me some peace of mind.

One other important question. does anyone have these old plastic Empire captain legs. i mean those legs on horse back clad with cloth (or a skirt if you want to call it that way). I am highly interested in those parts for a unit of knights. Imalreaduy had six of those bits myself, but I need another six.

Haha, I have found minatures... And lots of them... Some of them even painted... :smile2:

That means Ill be bringing my old Empire army, older even then my old and lost Hochland army. Its not that big though, so Ill also be taking some unpainted or partially painted minis with me :p

Oh, and although I hate Queensday, I will take an orange shirt with me :s

Lochness and myself should be arriving around 2 PM.

What do I do and where do I go?
i.e. where's the hotel, where's the gaming club... or more importantly... where's a bar?

And the trainstation is just a stone throw away from the club  :engel:

Public transport? Seriously?

Well, I have great experience with the public transport to Sint Niklaas... Only the way back was last time a bit less succesful  :eusa_wall:

The Count's Tavern / Re: Do people play Lord of the Rings anymore?
« on: April 18, 2012, 10:28:05 PM »
I personally like the ruleset, and have played a couple of very small games with my wife. I've got armies of most factions (in fact, I've probably got some thousands of models ) However, time constrains have hurt the hobby quite a bit: no time to paint, no time to play not even time to think about it...

None the less, LotR is probably the most easy game to get into (save for Bloodbowl maybe). The ruleset is relatively easy (less fiddeling about and less special rules (compaired to WHFB or 40k), however there is plenty of nasty small rules that can add depth IMO), there is no need for armybooks (unless you want to play competition or the newest versions of warbands) and you need less space and less models (up to 30 models will be enough, and that's honestly quite a big army when playing LotR). This means that with a couple of minis from a good faction and an evil faction you are ready to play. Compaire that with the hunderds of models you'd need for an infantry Empire army...

Now, you could play War of the Ring. This streamlines the games for larger battles, adds a couple of gimmicks that enhance the larger fights and drops a hella load of smaller rules that are great for skirmish but bog down the game when playing with more then 30 models. However... for WotR you need lots and lots and lots of minis. Not to mention make or buy all those movementtrays (if you want them nicely, you could of course use cardboard.)

So, while I do have the impression there are far less people playing LotR, it does have it's benefits. And if you manage to get hold of two (small) armies (say 80 models) you could play skirmishes and WotR. No need to push your friends into buying a lot of minis, instead they can try it out and eventually start an army of their own (that is, if they like it ;))

Hmm, I got the models, they are just not painted yet. I do not have enough room to take a 40k army with me though...

Heavily in doubt now if I should take my Empire army or should bring another army. Plenty of choice...

A drive from Rotterdam would be great. I'd be leaving from Leiden but if I could drive along that be great. plus there is less chance I'd loose my army again....

Sorry Shav though, I'm not nude, nor female. I am below 30 though ;)

For the knights, I'm around 30% now

Impressive army, looks very nice. i'd love to see the whole army when it's finished. Did you make the wheels on the mortars yourself? Any how-to on that, because I really like them.

The Brush and Palette / Re: Best Glue?
« on: January 28, 2012, 08:43:56 PM »
Pinning metal minatures is very advisable, as the bond between glues is always 'brittle' compaired to the metal pieces. A metal pin causes a better bond.

The glue I use is called super or secondglue (as it's very fast setting). The glue is based on Cyanoacrylate and is sold in the Netherlands by brands like Pattex and Bison. Zap-a-gap is also a common name, especially in the US.

One thing to take into account is there is also a geltype version availabe, this one works very well for stuff that is not a totally flat bond as it has filling capabilities. For flat bonds the more liquid version works better.

Count me in, I'll be there (unless the baby my wife and me are exprecting arrives 8 weeks early)  :biggriin:

Should we also consider a trading booth ;-) I'm looking for some of the knight legs that came on the old command sprue (the ones with cloth around the armoured legs) and I'd need some six of them... for my unit Blazing Suns....

As long as it's not the last date you've given Soth (last weekend of may) it's fine by me. But i'd prefer the first (early april) this is due to the fact that my wife's maternity leave in the last weekend of may...

Anyhow, i'll be sure to attent this year (give or take the arrival of a little 'Ness... :D)

Edit: the 2nd option in april is better. Didn't realise it was easter that weekend...
So that makes for Nessie... April 28th -May 1st or May 17th-20th

Edit 2: and yes... I'm still lurking around in the shadows ;)
Little ness! wow, exciting.
What army do you have at the moment?

Well stillmgot to paint a lot but I could bring a new Empire army, My High Elves or maybe some Orcs and Goblins. Loads of other options but those are "most" complete and ready.

And yes, I'm very anxious to get to know the little Ness, but that's still some 5 months away...

They look really good. Excellent minis for fighting battles with.

On the photography: you might wanna take some pictures on 'eyeheight' placing the lens on equal height to the minis so you get a front view. That way we can see more of the minis then from a birdsview. But on overall pictures look good, maybe a bit dark (use a grey background or something to get a better white balance. Now the whitebalance of your camera takes the white background as a reference instead of the minis themself)

I thought I saw an application once in a WD and that salary was around 22000 for the artists. It may not seem like much compaired to, say Norway but then again, Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world. A tramdriver in Olso earns more then a chief secury at our parliament! And the Dutch wages aren't low either.

Wages are largely dependent on the cost of living in a country. You may earn €100k a year but if a loaf of bread is €10 your purchacing power is considerably less then someone earning €25k but pays only €1 for that same bread. Costs of housing, healthcare etc also play an important role. In some countries healthcare is payed for by the employer so the net income might seem lower then in cases where you have to pay for the healthcare yourself.

Finally you have to take taxes into account. The UK has relatively low income taxes compaired to the Nordic countries. For example: in the UK the 'lowest' income taxrate is 20% (up to 37000 quid) However, in the Netherlands that same rate would be 33.45% (up to €18000 including social insurances) and the next would be 42% (up to 32.000). I'm on the other hand not aware how the social insurances in the UK are payed for and if they are included into the taxes.

All in all, I had the impression that the painters (and sculpters for that matter) are around UK average or slightly above it. But it's not like you win the jackpot.

The Brush and Palette / Re: Painting Competition?

Well, Bretonnian Knights stick to their heraldy during their rise to grailknight. At least, the basic colour. However, as they progress through the ranks of the knights their heraldy gets more eleborate, incorperating their feats into their heraldy.

This is most apperent with the Grail Knights which still are two or three colours but in eleborate designs. But their shield (which might be anything from once they earned their status of KotR) incorperates a grail into it. Afterall the quest they are on is to find the holy grail.

I wouldn't say you did bad Victor. Afterall, you made it into the vote-off.

@ Djoker, congrats :)

Also, you have quite a lot of spares from the Knights of the Empire set if you've bought one of those. You could use Empire shields and heads to change the look of the models.

Also I think that some of the Knightly orders in the Empire would use barding similair to the barding used by the Bretonnians.
