The Count's Tavern / Re: Upcoming and Current Movies ...
« on: February 15, 2019, 01:19:51 PM »
I watched They Shall Not Grow Old. One of my coworkers is a fanatic about it. Tells everyone who will listen its the greatest thing he's ever seen. I'm... less enthused. Its fine, a totally good war documentary and I like the whole "Through their own voice" kind of gimmick. Some of the footage is also really interesting. That said, I thought it was just another war documentary. It didn't particularly stick with me, but that might just be me.

There was also some weird moments (That are somewhat understandable considering EVERYTHING is coming from letters and diaries from the troops) where things seem to jump around. There's not much context at times and they don't always tell you what part of the war they're talking about.

But to see some remastered footage that's more then a hundred years old its really impressive.
The colored over film seems to bring it into a different light, although no less powerful.  There is something quite good about the black and white turning into to color in the preview seen, and hoping for more of that when I see the film.

See what I mean about some folks wanting more offensive action to release their emotions.  It's could be a primal thing for such contests of violence and competition.

Then there's those long drawn out displays of carefully moving parts, mentally challenging, and deep inner complexity.  Kind of like really intense long lasting sex, another primal force.

That does look like a neat place to go.  I liked seeing the picture of the bearded vulture, don't recall seeing one of those previously.

So question? Steveb has a nice pygmy army, however, its very derogatory in todays PC world. Is this something I should make a video of for anything GW history ? I could put a disclaimer on it or should I just leave it out all together?
It was from that day and age, so I'd say post it.  It doesn't strike me as something that is awful, it is history.  Folks can complain about it if they like, yet they are closing themselves off to an imaginary place, not designed to be insulting in some way.

I'm good if they becomes part of a Lustrian video, or Southland video, or whatever.

And I'd love to have some of those figures to paint, yet I suspect they cost a good bit much.

https://youtu.be/J_rgKqd-GsQ Once a year the Fighting woman guild march in the streets of Buggerhoff ( silent H) for equal rights to kill Heretics in Sigmar's Honor.
Show us a close up of that woman with the hammer, and it looks like there is a wall piece behind her with some dude sneaking up over the top?

I have one of those buglers in one of the last pictures, although it is interesting to see SteveB converted it to having a flowing mustache.

I wonder where all those figures come from :icon_question:

Some look like older GW.  Maybe some Foundry? Believe I see some others, but not sure where from.

Could be.

Some folks who watch the super bowl are looking for a game with more offensive action, and more scoring, and more release of their emotions, yet some with a deeper understanding of the game, there is something special in the way this contest was fought.  I can see how some might liken it to a soccer contest.

Perhaps something can be done to the site to start bringing in new members?  We've had a few newer folks recently, and a few old timers surface occasionally, since the most recent changes.  Maybe an analysis can be done that looks at why folks have been showing up, and see if there is a way to promote increased activity and membership here.  Maybe.  Not that this is the thread for such talk. :icon_wink:
