Extra HW and Pistol are the same price? Pistol is always better, counts as extra HW. I recommend 3/pistol, or 5/brace. Also, with this plan, a 9 point 3+ armor save, 2+ in CC person can be made. Many overpowered things are possible with this in my opinion.

I'll wait to see a consensus, then adjust accordingly.

Killing blow an 5+ against wizards?

Also how about increasing damage by 1 against undead, daemons, and forest spirits.

... Also, I disagree with T4, it overpowers him...
A normal Wizard Lord is also toughness 4

Just saw that :)

T4 is good then :)

Pikes have had points increased to 6, using DoW rules. Discussion over which rules preferable in 'The Pike' thread.

Those rules incorporate both options, so I've merged them together. It does seem a bit powerful though. We might have to modify the cost in the State Troops thread to something higher if we use those stats.

In DoW I believe they're 10 points or so...maybe make the pike upgrade +6.

Doing it now :)

The pike is a sore subject for many of us. Most would like to see it in the next army book, but there are many different interpretations of the rules. Below, there are a couple different options (handily labeled with letters) for discussion. Please insert your own ideas as well.

Option A Fight in four ranks; requires two hands to use.
Always strikes first in the initial round of combat, even striking before enemies have charged. Note that enemies who are entitled to strike first by either a special ability or magic will strike before a pike-armed model.
Models receive a +1 strength bonus in the turn they are charged by cavalry units, chariots or monsters. Note that this bonus only applies to attacks against the above charging units, not against other units.
All these special rules cannot be used against enemy units fighting the pikemen in the flank or rear.

Other suggestions to change things up? To overpowered? To underpowered?

I think halberd + pike should be two-handed weapons. So Heavy armour and pike.

Heavy armour + shield is good. Would make people think about having either heavy swordsmen and spearman or the amazingness of the pike.

Also think the pike rules should be the same as before. Always fight in 4 ranks, charges with three ranks +1 strength against cavalry.

The pike rules... I think that is a discussion in and of itself. I'm going to make a new thread here called the pike in a sec.

heavy armour should be limited to halberds and pikes. Everything else is fine (perhaps dropping the shields from the pikemen though)

Cheers

Dunrik

Dropping shields from pikemen... done. I'm going to keep heavy armor available to all who want it unless there is consensus otherwise.

I've added heavy armor, but no combination with shields and a special weapon. I think that pikes should be able to be taken with shields, but if more people weigh in, I'll change it.

Here goes:

Empire State Troops
WS BS S T W I A Ld
 3    3  3 3 1 3 1  7
Empire Sergeant
WS BS S T W I A Ld
 3    3  3 3 1 3 2  7

Equipment: Hand Weapon, Light Armor
Points: 4

May take a shield (+1 point/model), and either a spear (+1 point/model), a halberd (+1 point/model), or a pike (+6 points/model)
May take heavy armor (+1 point/model). May not select heavy armor, a shield, and a non-hand weapon. A shield may not be combined with a pike.

If neither a spear, a pike, nor a halberd is taken, may specialize in the sword (+1 WS, +1 I) (+1 point/model)

May take a standard bearer (+4 points), a musician (+4 points), and/or a sergeant (+8 points)

For each captain or general of the empire, one magic standard can be taken up to 25 points.

Pike: Fight in four ranks; requires two hands to use.
Always strikes first in the initial round of combat, even striking before enemies have charged. Note that enemies who are entitled to strike first by either a special ability or magic will strike before a pike-armed model.

I concur. You should either make him level 4 or one of the best wizards in the empire. Also, I disagree with T4, it overpowers him. Perhaps when drinking Bugman's XXXXXX, a table should be rolled on, like:

1 - Urghhh... Gloop. Rufas passes out in his own vomit. He may not act next turn, and unit he is with my chose to leave him there.

2-5 - Ahhh... Rufas enjoys a cool draught of his XXXXXX. He restores one wound, but must take a stupidity test next turn.

6 - 'Ey, Its jus' a giant... I can take 'im Rufas must immediately charge the nearest enemy unit, but regains 2 wounds. If no enemy units are in range and line of sight, count this as result 2-5.

Who cares how GW does it?  Thats the REAL book.  This is a fan made book.  Design by comittee is the only way a community can produce one.

Phil

I disagree. Out of principle.

I agree with the disagreement. This book could be made by one person. My proposal is a middle ground: that each person suggests an entry and then a committee works to modify it. Then, a person or exclusive group binds them into a cohesive book. This way noone is doing loads of work, but it each person is responsible for their idea.

Cannon - 100 points.

Cannons have 3 crew members with M4, WS 3, BS 3, S 3, T 3, W1, I 2, Ld 8.

Crew may be upgraded with Light armor (+2 pts/model) or Heavy armor (+4 pts/model), and/or a shield (+2 pts/model).

Add an engineer (+25 points). He may wear Light armor (+4 points), heavy armor (+6 points), or Full Plate armor (+8 points). He has a repeater handgun, which he may exchange for a brace of pistols (free), a hochland long rifle (+10 points), a grenade launching blunderbuss (+15 points), and/or pigeon bombs (+20 points).

Cannons are a special choice.

A cannon follows the rules for war machines in the warhammer rulebook.

A cannon may be upgraded to a great cannon for +75 points. A great cannon uses the large blast template instead of the small one, but all rolls on the misfire table are reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 1). A great cannon is a rare choice. For every master engineer in your army, 0-1 great cannons may be taken as a special choice.

The subforum could work like this: All threads have to contain one (1) unit or magical item submission. The thread then will discuss that unit until it is agreed that it is either bad or good. If it is a good idea, a moderator may add a [Good] tag to it and take it down into a sticky thread at the top. If it isn't it will become locked until better ideas rise above it. Then, when there are enough good suggestions (even multiple different ways of the same unit being set up (two different swordsmen point/statline ideas for example)), the subforum moves onto phase two: Book construction. It is at this point that the very best ideas are selected and formed into a coherent, uniformely formatted section. Many different things should be discussed at this phase (changing detachment rules, magic items, special characters).

Just an idea, feel free to shoot me down on this.

Hold up guys!!

You want to make the Halberdiers 4 points? That is about 4 times too many. And the 1+ armor save should be upgraded to at least -4+, and should be made re-rollable.

Hmmm... I don't have one on me, but I was pretty sure about it...

If anyone has one, can we get a quote to prove me wrong or right?

Important note: The unit has to be US 5, not 5 people, so a bret formation of just 3 other knights would provide LOS.

EDIT: This has been proved wrong. Look further down to see!

Mine's a knightly leader:

I also set it up so he can switch between cav and monster bases as needed.

I'm also getting the other two models of him to make: An archlector on war altar and a mounted war-priest/lector

Mmm! Yes! I forgot. There are two different cannons

I also believe that the wheels could potentially be done without hubcaps, but some minor conversion will be required as the hubcap does attach in the interior. It would be relatively simple to do though :)

It is really not significantly smaller. I would postulate that in general size it is about 90% of the current metal kit. The cannon and turret are about the same size, but the general bulk of the hull is what has been shrunk.

The Electors' Forum / Re: Hands On: The Plastic Steam Tank

Note: The engineer/tank commander doesn't come with an HLR (though something resembling one can be attached directly to the turret), sadly, but most of the other options are represented. He also has three different faces.

The choices with this new kit are really limited to:
  - A bucket of coal or a lamp at the back
  - A steam exhaust thingy or an eagle head at the top of the stack
  - The positioning of the four shields
  - Turret
      - Open or closed
      - Sniper thingy on pintle mount or no
      - Engineer options
           - Equipment
           - Face

It is slightly smaller than the metal one, comfortably fitting on a chariot base instead of just barely fitting.

Yesterday, I was allowed to build my local GW's plastic steam tank. I have some information for those who are interested:

  - The turret can be assembled open or closed, the little turret gun is mobile Up-Down
  - The turret screws on to the top of the tank like the Leman Russ turret, it fits in at a 90˚ angle and is turnable and removable.
  - The great big cannon is moveable.
  - The commander can be assembled in the turret, but he also has a full length body, so if you decide to close the turret, you have a plastic engineer on foot with a multitude of different options!
  - The tank fits quite easily on a chariot base.
  - There are a couple fun doodads that come in the sprue, such as a cannon box and a chest.
  - It is relatively simple to build, with only one part which could potentially mess up the whole thing (the angle of the axles)

If anyone wants to know anything more specific about the model, feel free to ask.
