Light spells won't transfer to detachments.

Bah. This all would have been simpler if the rule was steadfast is only passed if both units are in the same combat, and the parent has more ranks than all enemies. (Or perhaps the detatchment uses the parents ranks in that situation.)

At least that's how I would have written it.

I don't want to start any arguments, but what does the new FAQ do to archer detachments of archer regiments?  Normally skirmishers have no ranks, but If the parent isn't in combat, is the detachment steadfast?

One thing I saw, you mention a musician for flagellants, but they don't have that option.

5
I don't have a list to share, but one thing I found today using a Griffon based list is that I had a hard time against a list with many flyers (2 terrorghiest, flying vamp lord, and two varghiest units).

6
I guess my question would be, why isn't the mount considered part of the general?  I don't think this is addressed in the BRB or FAQ. I think it makes sense, though.

7
That is actually not correct - he does get the extra points for killing the General. He just does not get the points for killing the character. Two different things.

Wait, what? Really? (Not doubting you, just never heard this before). If you kill the character, not the mount, there are no points given per FAQ (makes sense in relation to no points for partially killed units).  You're saying though that if the character was the general, they still get the 100 point bonus, without killing the whole model?

Just looked, turns out they are.

I was debating if the MR(2) and fear immunity is worth the 50 points by themselves. Decided to make room in my list for next weekend's local tourney to find out.

I'm not entirely certain Ogres can take enough models (4) to get a shooter.  Depends on cost, which I do t know.  I would bet even if they get a shooter, they'd have to take gnoblars, which should be easy points.

Yes wood elves would be sneaky as they can take their trees.

Don't know about skaven but you can run 26 gobo's if memory serves me right

Max 20 models.

Which means you could run 20 spears. I wouldn't, but you could. :)

Oh, and as someone posted on another forum, no use in taking flagellants as they will auto hit themselves in combat, and only one models to take all the hits.

And at least GW doesn't make the metal models anymore so now flying creatures won't break every stand they are mounted on. And people will actually have a fully constructed and painted model to use instead of plopping down a base and showing you a box of eagle parts with dried glue all over the place while they say 'I tried...".

Oh so true!

Im surprised Nuln doesn't have a bigger following.  And that stirland is so popular.  I thought it would have been the other way around.  I'm leaning towards Marienburg myself as I'd like an excuse to collect and paint other races while being able to keep it themed in the army. Although I have not tried painting yellow yet so... lol

As a novice Ostermark painter, all I can say is yellow can be difficult.  I suggest a white/light undercoat.

I,ll throw this out for yellow. For my Stirland army, I base with Zandari Dust, sepia wash, ushabti bone layer, screaming skull layer, yellow glaze. Gives a nice pale yellow. Strength of yellow depends on amount of glaze.

Actually, I think it states combat resolution is based only on wounds done in battle. That way a zombie won't auto lose to crumble if taking a charge.

I would venture to guess Nordland might be rather under represented, also perhaps Ostland.

Interesting. I've been meaning to out together a cannon tactica for new empire generals and put up my targeting numbers. These would go very well in it.

Also, I think th HE player attempted to cast Transmutation into combat. It is a direct damage spell, so shouldn't be cast into combat.

Once I saw the rules, I started thinking up various regiments. You can fit in 1 IC knight, 2 regular knights, xbow, archer, and 3 spears. Seems light on numbers, but 3 1+ saves has to be hard to deal with.

I really like the idea of this event. But living in Seattle, won't be going. Hoping to get some attention for this at my GW battle bunker.

Restrictions include 100 total points and no war machines.

My current empire list is a band of bandits.

Greatswords leader, dog of war with +1 to AS, dragonhelm, and luckstone
Outrider, dog of war with handcrafted ammo (no long range penalty)
Pistolier
8 militia, one is a dog of war with ASF.

My thought is the great sword has some staying power with 2+ AS and one reroll, and he hits hard. The limit of 25% shooting models is overcome a bit with fast cav with multiple shots.  And the outrider has 3 St 4 AP shots that will usually hit on 4s ( I think) at 24 inches.

I also find that if my movement rolls aren't decent, the rest of my army screws up my charge arcs. My opponent will just wheel it's mega unit in such a way that I can't rotate the Steam tank enough without waking the STank's tail-end into a unit on the rotate and negating any possible charge.

One quick note on this, if you can make the charge, but can't wheel to "close the door", your opponent may have to have the charged unit close the door to you. Several diagrams explain this in the BRB.

Well, here is the example of where light fell short for me.

I was playing a 2000 point game vs WoC. They had a demon prince, helcannon, chimera, and a hoard of about 40 warriors with additional hand weapon, BSB, and festus (and mark of nurgle).

On turn 1 I gave the DP a cannonball to the face and killed the chimera with my knights. The helcannon was fairly inconsequential and later killed by my knights.  Non-chaff combat with the warriors didn't happen until about turn 4.  Unfortunately, even with Greatswords up front and a halberd hoard in his side, I got destroyed (true, I blew my magic phase prior to combat, and never expected to lose 21 Greatswords in one round). Still, I had nothing to really whittle down the unit prior to combat except for my helblaster, and this game, it failed me. A unit clearing 6 spell could have made the difference between draw and win.

I really like my Greatswords, and have been thinking of this, myself. I think the spell loves that make the first cut are metal, light, heavens, and possibly life.  My last two games were metal and light. I think light is a very good lore, but what I felt I was missing was that one anti-Deathstar spell. What hurts Greatswords with light is that Speed of Light and Timewarp just aren't enough on their own for the Greatswords against a Deathstar, because you are likely to strike last with initiate 3 or ASL.

I think probably no. Not that scary at the moment, and we can dispel easier on our magic phase.

No to multi shot penalty. Yes to range penalty.

You hit some things that would work. Try to take their major advantage and negate it or turn it to a weakness. Bret's major advantages are good armor, mobility, and lance formation.

Armor can be attacked with metal magic, cannons (str 10 essentially ignores armor), and a helblaster will punch through armor very well, too.

While Bret's have good mobility on their cavalry, nothing else does. Try to draw the cavalry out, and set up flank attacks. Because of the lance formation, Bret cavalry tend to have large flanks. Hit these with any strength boosted unit (halbreds, greatswords, or flagellants) could really put the hurt on.
