Well barely any of my units are painted so it seemed a shame to keep him in the box, specially since he is so gosh darn purty. His name is Gorignak. And for the record, he was just as much use to me up in the tower as he has been on the battlefield.

This battle went oh so badly for me. I'm really developing a huge grudge against lizards as I don't think I've beat them yet. The unit of spiders riders on my far left were killed almost immediately by Wolfy's flying things (sorry for the technical term) that dropped rocks on them. In this pic they are hiding behind the trees on the end of the table. The brightest spot of the battle was that my spear chukka's caused at least 2 wounds (possibly 3?) against the stegadon. Unfortunately he then crashed into my unit of orcs and pretty much obliterated them. I did remember my fanatics this battle (yay) but of course they failed to do very much. I believe that I caused one of his spikey lizards to run. I'm with Rover, I haveno idea how you lads remember every last detail of the battles. My wolf riders did sweep up the right flank and got into position right behind his skinks, but that was at the end of turn 3 and thats where we had to stop. I'd like to think they would have done some decent damage to that unit.

In conclusion, I managed a grand total of 160 victory points. Wolfy had in the area of 1000 vp. Well played good sir.

Hey! Wheres the pic of mine and Wolfy's battle? :?

Though it probably is something that I just want to forget about. Stupid lizards...

This was my first tournament and I had a really great time.  :smile2:

The first round I played against wood elves. It was my first time seeing them in action and I really didn't know what to expect. Unfortunately it was also my first battle in a little while and I forgot a lot of stuff, most importantly that my unit of 40 night gobbos held fanatics! :-( They could have done some serious damage to her dryads. Of course, being goblins, its possible the fanatics would have done absolutely nothing anyways. As it happened, the unit was broken. Its really unfortunate we didn't finish the battle, we only finished 3 turns and it was still anyones game.

I'm curious b/c I've been holding off getting one even though I know I should.  If its easy, then I might do it.

First off, the pin vice was actually extremely simple and easy to use. If I can do it, then I promise you that anyone can. Thank you to everyone for the great advice!

Secondly, I have to say, I pinned one model and decided it was too time consuming for me. It took me about 15ish minutes to put an arm on my boar boy. I went out and bought a good quality glue and accelerant, as Soth suggested, and did my other 4 boyz in less than a minute. I then went on to assemble my 2 spear chukkas in about 2 minutes. I swear that stuff is magic! I'm still a little in disbelief as to how well that actually worked. Many many thanks Soth! You have saved me from much frustration! I had actually bought the spear chukkas last summer and had not yet been able to assemble them. It'll be nice to finally use them in battle! :-D

Looking good! With the greenstuff, I think you meant the guy on the left?

I'd recommend using one of those washes for the ears and noses. They are one of the typical areas for washing. Also, you seem to suffer from the same problem as I do - thick Bleached Bone. Good tabletop quality anyway. :::cheers:::

Yes, I definitely meant the guy on the left. What do you do with your bleached bone? Would watering it down ruin it?

For the green stuff, I tried using a tooth pick to make fur lines, but that really didn't work very well. For some reason I did not think to use my hobby knife.

This is my first attempt at dry brushing and I have to say that overall I'm really pleased with the results. Actually, I'm pleased as punch ...but please feel free to critique! I'd definitely like to get better. Some advice would be good regarding shading of the ears and snout, I wasn't really sure where to go with that. They also represent my first attempt at green stuffing, nothing fancy just filling in the gap between the head and the body. That worked out fairly well. In the last pic, its pretty noticable on the guy on the right, but from a distance you can't really tell, so I guess thats ok. I have the utmost respect for you guys that actually sculpt and do fancy stuff with it.

That sounds pretty cool! Wiss and I might be interested in making a day trip and meeting you there. I was particularily interested when you mentioned the shopping at the dealers room and flea market. :-D Do you know if they would carry Warhammer stuff in general or just WAB?

Thanks for all the advice! I haven't tried it yet. I'm about to go to the Post Office but might give it a go when I get back, otherwise it'll wait till next weekend. Brilliant idea with the sticky tack Siberius, that makes tons of sense. I hadn't even thought that far ahead yet regarding lining up the holes, but I'm definitely going to try that.

Thanks for your advice as well Steveb, though I will admit your post is making me feel even more apprehensive about doing this. :icon_eek: I don't see that I have much of a choice though, my glue just won't hold those metal models together well enough. My spear chukkas have been a nightmare so I'll probably pin those next.

I will post results when I'm through, but it might be a while. I have to be in the right "mood" to work on modeling, and the mood doesn't strike all that often honestly. But if I can figure out how to work this thing then I'm sure you'll have no trouble at all Dihenydd!

Ok, cool. I think I have the idea. I'm quite relieved I don't have to use a regular drill. Thanks a lot for those pics NomeN. I'll give it a try later this afternoon and let you know how it goes. I'm putting boar boyz together. :-)

I have the pin vice and bits but I have no idea how to use it. :-( I thought it would be a small hand held device to drill small holes but now I'm thinking that its supposed to go into a regular drill. But if I'm using a regular drill how am I supposed to hold the model and not drill my fingers? Or even drill all the way through the model? Please help. Neither Wiss and I are big on modeling. :|

Merry Christmas everyone!

That was a really great post Obi and I definitely agree with all of it!

@Karl: You sure have a special touch with those Picard pics. Thanks for making me laugh!

A horse archer named Seamus was flanked by a slayer.  The rest of the unit was unable to particpate in the action and Seamus and the horse were able to deflect the blows of the dwarf and struck down the stunted one.

I'm not sure that Seamus would be suited for the greatsword regiment, however.  His legs are bowed from a lifetime in the saddle.

Edit:  Blast!  I'm on the wife's account.

I guess it could depend on the person you're talking to, but I certainly have never considered "Canuck" to be derogatory. I do not know where the expression originated, so maybe somewhere in history it wasn't the nicest. However, there is a hockey team in the NHL called the Vancouver Canucks, so it can't be too bad. :-)

(As an aside what is wrong with my spelling of favourite and colour, darned spell-checker)

The spell checker didn't like the "u" in both words. Americans spell it favorite and color. Canadians are known to swing both ways. 8-)

As an aside, Wiss has instructed me to say that the problem was not the spell checker but the fact that the English do not know how to spell.

However, just between you and me, I think its the Americans who spell funny.

I've started! On two models. :icon_redface: I'm almost as slow as Wiss when it comes to getting the gumption up for painting. That being said, I would like to mention that having been in the hobby and signifigantly shorter time than him, I have painted more models than he has. :-D

But yes, your son's color scheme definitely inspired me. I'm not intirely satisfied with my cloak yet, but as soon as I'm done I will post pictures.

I demand pictures of when my the models I've painted start killing each other ;)

By that you mean when my troll starts killing his general. Shouldn't be a problem. :-D

You have no idea how oh so very excited I am about have a wickedly painted model! I'm going to be hounding my postman every day till he gets here!!!

Yay! Gorignak looks pretty freakin sweet!!! Thank you. I needed at least one decent model to counter Wiss' stunning little army. He'll do very nicely.

it is nice to see that somebody in your household is actually considering painting their own mini's instead of having the whole world do the dirty work :icon_lol:

ZING! That was great, thanks for the laugh! I'm really really hoping to finish the two minis I'm working on before leaving for Canada this weekend, so I'll have to post pics to prove that there are Wissenlanders who can paint their own stuff. Thanks again to you and your son for the help with the colors.

Rufas, your cannon crew just arrived in the mail today. They came through just fine except for a tiny bit of damage to the top of the cannon, those handle thingeys broke off, but thats very easily fixed. They look really really sweet. I told Wiss that he'd have to make them his main cannon unit now. I really love how you did the pants on the crew and the white and grey on the cannon itself. 8-)

Just asked him over breakfast and he used a mix of "Mordian Blue" and "Dheneb Stone" to get a light blue, after that he washed it heavily with "Asurmen Blue"

Excellent! I was hoping you'd say Mordian Blue as I already have 2 pots of it. I'll have to look into getting the other ones. Thanks for the quick reply. :-)

Wow! That is an amazing paint job for a new painter. I can see why you are so proud of your son! I love the shade of blue that he used on the cloak. My army color for my orcs is blue and I've just started painting my night goblins with midnight blue, but its coming out a bit too purpley for my tastes. Which Foundation blue did he use? I need to go out and get some for myself! :-)

Its definitely easier for me to say who I have fought against. I HAVE fought Empire and Lizardmen. Thats it. And fighting lizards sucks. I think I'd be most interested in fighting VC, but anything would be great for a change. Dendo, you should help your wife put together her VC so I can play against them in July. :-D
