The Brush and Palette / Re: My army so far..

The first of my Sisters of Sigmar. I acquired a unit of 10 from a guy at my store. This is the only one I've gotten to yet. I think the pics may be a little grainy. Apologies for that, using my camera.

Ya, that's what I figured.

Goodness. Is that the price or how much the thing weighs?  :biggriin:

Where would I find this brush soap and brush renovator you speak of? If I went to say, Hobby Lobby or Michaels would it be located on the aisle witht the brushes and other art supplies? That seems so obvious, but I have to ask.

Amazing work. I love the colors you used. Always felt that the way GW had them painted was so uniform and bland. Lizards can be found in an amazing variety of colors and you certainly showed some great colors. Once again seeing someone else's work makes me want to lay down my brushes, but alas that would defeat the whole purpose. Every time I see something new here I am inspired to get better. Bravo sir, good work.

The Brush and Palette / My army so far..

I'll be posting pics of the stuff I've painted here. Of course after seeing some of the amazing paint jobs posted by some you talented folks I'm a little intimidated but I'm gonna post anyway. The more I do the better I get. Comments, critiques, and suggestions are always welcome and appreciated of course. Apologies if picture quality isn't always great. Working with the camera on my phone. Also, I realize some of them may not be based or completely based. I have a tendency to wait and base a huge batch all at once.

First up my unit of state troops.

Here's a knight I did. I swapped the demigryph for a thunderwolf. Still working on the fluff, but I'm a fan of stories so trust me it will be there. Anyway, the first of my knightly order I'm calling Brotherhood of the Wolf.

The flash made it look like the wolf has some yellow on him. He doesn't. It's graveyard earth, just looks yellowish in the pic. Thanks for looking and there will be more as I get them done.

The Brush and Palette / paint stripping question
« on: May 20, 2012, 11:37:33 PM »
I just acquired some older Empire plastic pieces. Needless to say the first thing I wanted was to strip the paint and repaint to match my other pieces. After soaking them in some simple green I found that some of them have a second coat of what may be enamel paint. Will the simple green work on that as well if I just let them continue to have a soak or is there another solution that will remove the paint, should it actually turn out to be an enamel without harming the plastic mini? Thanks for any and all help.

My first attempt at banner painting. Not great, but I'm confident it'll get better with time and practice.

Almost didn't bother to post. So many great paint jobs here I feel like mine pales in comparison but you gotta start somewhere I suppose.

Alrighty. Thanks for that. I have an idea and a story in mind. Got alot of the details worked out in my head, just need to commit them to somewhere permanent instead and get busy painting and building.

The Electors' Forum / Question about knightly orders
« on: May 12, 2012, 03:55:07 PM »
I apologize if this has been covered or if I didn't make adequate use of the search function, but I will claim noob exemption. (Does that exist? It should) Do you have to use one of the existing knightly orders or is it acceptable to create your own? I assume in order to do so you would need a plausible story for their creation, colors and heraldry, fealty to any particular god or region and all that good stuff. While I have found some of the orders that interest me I really like having my own stories. That's kind of the reason I play anyway. Thanks in advance for any and all comments, suggestions, criticisms, and advice.  :biggriin:

The Imperial Office / Re: Making Snow Bases

Excellent tutorial. I will actually use this one for my Space Wolves. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a good tutorial for snow bases. Well done!

These are all amazing. Once I get my first feeble attempt done I will post it, but wow am I intimidated by the talent you guys have.

I haven't really come up with fluff or a story yet, but rest assured I will. I love my armies and characters to have stories and a history. I think the main reason I liked Altdorf to be honest was I like the color scheme. It's simple, but has a very striking look when done well. Also, I've been painting several thousand points of Space Wolves for 40k as well as a huge IG army I've been doing as a commission and since the primary color for both of those armies is grey I desperately wanted to paint something other than grey. I have a few pieces still to work on, but I am looking forward to getting started on my Altdorf forces.

Well, nobody has posted here in two years, but what the heck. After much consideration I have to decided to throw my lot in with Altdorf. I'll get to painting just as soon as I finish a few commissions and some of my remaining Space Wolves.

Well, let's see. I am new to the Empire. I play  Space Wolf army in 40k and the main reason I wanted to play Empire in fantasy is because I was tired of painting things grey. The overall look of the army really appealed to me. I love the riot of colors when you see an Empire army assembled. The aesthetic of some of the pieces, especially the new ones, makes me very eager to get my hands on them. I've been playing 40k and fantasy off and on since the late 90's. An old Navy buddy turned me onto the game and though I have wandered away from time to time I always come back. The main thing I am looking at is what color scheme to use. It's tempting to paint units of State Troops from several provinces just to see all the colors. Or is it better to concentrate on one particular province or city state? These are things I am here to find out.

On a different note, I am located in Texas right outside Houston. I run a comic and game store in the Channelview area. If you live in the area and want a place to play, hit me up and I will be happy to have you out anytime. Looking forward to getting to know you guys and gleaning pearls of wisdom from you to help me smite the enemies of The Empire. For Sigmar and the Emperor!
