Black Death (from 2010) - with Sean Bean
The story could just as well have bin about a group of "adventures" in the warhammer world trying to do some good.

Or simply it takes place in another year?
Some BL books are not set around the storm of chaos...  Grimblade takes place around 2420IC

Johann Esmer:
Volkmar was "killed" during the storm of chaos. Johann Esmer was elected as the new one and then Volkmar showed up again. This off cause was a problem. Esmer ended up fleeing to Marienburg... so post SoC there are two men who both say they are the Grand Theogonist... Giving us the interesting possibility of a real split of the Sigmarcult...

The Count's Tavern / Re: Games Workshop Conspiracy
« on: October 11, 2012, 04:30:27 AM »
Tonight I was at our local RPG club.
After the games we hang out and I heard a funny story.

One of the guys work at the local store ( a chain of 3 stores and one of two main chains here in Denmark) and another of the guys runs a Distributor who sells bordgame, magic and novels. (and other stuff)
The store buys their GW novels from the Distributor who get them from a publishing company who get them from GW...
But even with two "steps" that need to earn money it is still cheaper for the store than buying them directly from GW... now that is just strange.

« on: September 09, 2012, 10:40:24 PM »
The novels often mention in the area of 30-80 men in a regiment. Often you can add detachements to that.
The 16th Reikland helberdiers or Grimblades, are 40 men at the start of the book. The intro allso have 50 Bögenhafen spearmen and 40 handgunners from Grünburg.

They have a captain, but he is allso seen to be commanding other units. The day to day commander is often a sergeant.
Lieutenants and colonels are mentioned in other books but not often.
The blackhearth books have Ober-captain as a sort of "brigade commander"
Corporals are allso in use in some books.

Captains are usually nobelmen. (but not allways)

artillery:
In another book the hole of Hochland have a handfull of cannon, 2-3 mortars and one HBVG.

At the danish warlarps we use:
Sergeant (1-2 pr regiment),
Senior sergeant (1)
Lieutenant (xo, only in regiment of more than 20 men or leading militia)
Captains (commanding regiments of statetroops.)
Obercaptain commanding a Kampfgruppe. ("brigade" of 3-4 regiments.)

Our regiments are at the smallest 10 men(the minimum size acording to our rules) and the large are about 25men. (think the largest to date was maybe 32)

Thomas Aagaard, we're talking about 30 Crossbowmen. Where did you see 20?
Guess I thougt: 30crossbowmen in horde formation = 10 wide 3 ranks...(so 20 can fire) but offcause they might as well be 15 wide in two ranks.

Your math is way off.
Crossbowmen firing at long range: hits at 5+
So 20 men firing = 6,67hits

S4 hits T3 = 3+
6,67 * 6,67
So thats a total of 4,44 wounds...

T1: 4,44 kills
T2: 4,44  kills
T3: 6,67 kills
T4: 6,67 kills
Charge 4,44 kills

total: 26-27 kills..
Not the 40 kills you get.

white headbands... "two damage, Five damage"  Just horrible... (said the "nordic" larper)

Krigslive 8 was last weekend... and one of the main danish newspapers had an article about it on frontpage of their Culture part... another had an online article and  a radioshow reported the results of the battles like a soccermatch. (3-2 to the Vikings over the Christians)

And the on of the larpers invited his mother to come and watch...
This is interesting because she is the minister of education here in Denmark.

8
Btw "Krigslive IX" is official.
(number 8 was last weekend, but not warhammer)

It will be Empire Vs. Nightgoblins.
April 2013.

The picture is a bit of a cheat.

We where doing a photoshoot for a citybased warhammer larp called "Khypris - year one"

We used the shop since the guy iam organizing the larp with works there and the light is better than what we have at our clubhouse.
(notice that it is completely dark outside)

For years I wanted to take some pictures with some state troops are reading White dwarf or similar... But newer gotten around to do it.

So the idea was a picture of me in a costume reading the army book... but it was sold out. So I ended up with this.

More info about our warhammer battle larps here:

The Count's Tavern / Re: First war against chaos
« on: April 22, 2012, 01:43:03 AM »
I was going to point this out:
Sigmar used proper Phalanxes at the battle of black fire pass... so I think they still know how to fight as a group 2300 years later...

But then I realized that by "first" you didn't mean "The great war"...  :icon_biggrin:

11
the bow do shot with IDV arrows. (padded arrows)

The guns just say bang.
Rule wise they have to fire in volleys at one enemy unit within 25m.
Everyone in the unit takes 1 point of damage.
Archers worked the same way. fired a volley at a units and everyone lost 1 point.
They had 3 volleys pr. battle.
And then they dropped their handguns and drew their swords and bucklers.

btw, there is something somewhat similar in Sweden called Krigshjärta (www.krigshjarta.com)
Its not warhammer but clearly inspired by it.

Some of us averlanders and stirländers is talking about going to sweeden next year... since we think Krigslive have moved to much to a festival with random bofferfights and not much roleplay... And we go just as much for the roleplay as the fighting.
Offcause this can actually be very different from one camp to the other.
At this krigslive we had lost of cool play in camp.
(and we, the officers had a lot of fun with the Stirland vs Averland conflict when in the officers tent)

Atm, iam focusing on my next larp. Called "Khypris - year one"
(city based larp that takes place in the borderprinces, in 2012 IC - with focus on the cultual conflicts that comes from having new city where men and women from the Empire, Bretonnia, kislev and Tilea live together in a small space in a anarchistic town... do we need a cityguard? what laws do we use? who should rule? and how? monarcy? a merchant republic? an elected prince? feudalism?)

A picture taken this evening...for the fun of it... when we where having a photoshoot for Khypris.

Found them:

Bringing them home:

Now I just have to put them trough my machine of "gørdemstørreoglevende" and paint them before I can use them... :icon_biggrin:

The Electors' Forum / Re: 8th Ed. Core: Halberdiers or Spearmen?
« on: April 07, 2012, 03:57:48 AM »
I don't have an opinion about what is best*. In the end it will always be depending on the situation.

And doing math hammer is very very complex and time consuming since you have to consider many combat rounds, magic, all unittypes, is there a general or BSB near, who charged...

But offcause sometimes logic can help you and in some cases its pretty clear what is best.

My point is that I do se the "something" is 1/6 better a lot... but as I pointed out:
Going from 4+ to 3+ is a 16 percent point improvement. But the change of succes is 32% better.
Going from 6+ to 5+ is allso a 16 percentage point improvement. but the change is 100% better.

And if you try to do mathhammer, but don't do the basic math correctly, then you will get the wrong result.

*actually I do, halberdiers is most fluffy for most provinces.

14
Nah, baiting a leadership 10 frenzied unit is pretty ineffective - particularly if there is a BSB around.
Flaggies only LD7 now. (they got standard human stats as far as I remember)

The Electors' Forum / Re: 8th Ed. Core: Halberdiers or Spearmen?
« on: April 06, 2012, 11:32:18 AM »
halberds will get 1/6 increased chance of killing
Wrong! very very wrong.

Procentage and procentage points is two very different things.

S3 / S4
% of hits that will wound
T 3 50% / 66%
T4 33% / 50%

So agianst T3 helbards are 32% better than S3
against T4 they are 81% better.
If the target have armour they are even better, compared to S3 attackes.

Going from 4+ to 3+ is a 16 procentage point improvement. But the change of succes is 32% better.
Going from 6+ to 5+ is allso a 16 procentage point improvement. but the change is 100% better

When doing math, you have to do it correctly.

The Electors' Forum / Re: Flagellant Formations
« on: March 18, 2012, 09:43:44 PM »
since our book is not a 8th edition book, that is not correct.

My teory:
Having a 50 man unbreakable units was a problem from a game design point of view.
In the old days 30 was usually hard to kill of, but not impossible to kill off.

In 8th a 30 man unit can be killed off pretty fast. So I think the limit will be raised to 50 or removed.

Since the Empire is build on laws and have a justice system based on law(in teory at least). Then the Cult of Verena have a presence in most larger towns.

Ostland is all ruined because of the Storm of Chaos nonsense that is now, officially, not part of the history.
It is if you play WFRP2... (you can off cause just play in another year)

The electors all have a lot of fancy titles. Most of them use "Count" as the primary title but two use Graf and one Emperor. (KF is off cause allso the  Count of Reikland and prince of Altdorf)

1361-2303 gives us allmost 950years of civil war... and we blame the Talabheimers.

The steamtanks where made some time after 2012 according to the dogs of war armybook.

btw. rolling a 2 on the table and all units in the game are unbreakable and you fight until one side is completed removed from the table...

Everyone knows that the Elector Count of Stirland won the 1360 election fairly... So basically the Talebheimers are to blame for a 1000years of civilwars and unrest...

25
since this follows the official Empire list, you should be able to use it everywhere...
(no special rules for huntmen offcause)

That is why this is 100timer better than adding units to the bretonian list... any homemade units will not be allowed most places.
