I don't know the Empire collector's guide, what is it?
We could always e-mail GW and ask them if they would mind a Warhammer Empire compendium.
Then again Lexicanum doesn't seem to have a problem with it (though that doesn't have to say anything of course).

Maybe a nice idea to start up with atleast a textual list and a mark if we have the pictures on them aswell. Then later we can add the actual pictures into a wiki or something when we can get this up. Atleast this way we can start gathering what we still need.

Also the Books is a nice idea, but not needed. http://www.lexicanum.com
If I'm not mistaken on the link has almost every book with image of the WHFB series.

EDIT: specific link here: http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Category:Army_books_and_Rulebooks
What would be a good way for an online checklist? An Excel via Google docs? Or a small database? It's a good start in any case!

Guess we should contribute to Lexicanum as well, since a lot of links don't have info (and thus no image) yet

Like I said I am working on creating a sort of a compendium on this with the Copyright dates as release dates (not sure how accurate this is). Might be a way to get this on the site maybe? (Probably when we get moved to another server).

Anyway I would like to be as accurate and complete as possible with the support of pictures of the box designs. And if not a box design then good pictures of the assembled (painted or not) models themselfs.
I've taken the liberty to open a new topic for that: http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=37810.0
Hopefully it gets some life  :)

As discussed over here http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=35871.msg591301#msg591301, I was thinking (as well as StealthKnightSteg) it would be a great addition to the Warhammer Empire community to have an image database with all the box covers, blisters, figures, books etc. I've done some scanning and collecting myself and have put it up on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/shadow_z80/photos

Not sure what practical options are to bring this online, but it would be nice to have it integrated with the Wiki, so it's in nice categories and indexed for searches.

What are the others' ideas and views on this?

And to quote StealthKnightSteg efforts:

There was a detachment box - 12 handgunners and 12 Spearmen I recall.
The unipose Ed.6 ones.

The Edition 5 Handgunners and Crossbowmen had their own Box Art - very similar to the Soldiers box, as the basic plastic sprues were the same.
5th edition box, like those Middenheim Halbediers?

Fixed the wrong link!

208
great!! I have added the regiment box now and the 10 men box to my list
I think I got all the State Troops now (halbs, spears and swords) boxes, unless there were some seperate boxes for spearmen..

(not counting brigade and detachment boxes yet)
I've seen a box for Spearman, but that was labelled as an detachment I think. Not sure if you mean those too with "not counting detachment boxes". I need to make a round here in Utrecht again and check some boxes  :)

"Empire Soldiers Regiment" dunno the year yet (haven't got this box myself)
Since my 6th edition Empire Knights are from 2003, I'll take a gamble and consider the Soldiers Regiment from 2003 as well  ^_^

If those 5th edition Middenheim coloured Soldiers of the Empire regiment box figures were plastics with metal weapons, won't they fall over then??

What exactly was in the 6th edition starter set? (Empire vs Orcs & Goblins)
16 handgunners and spearmen each, one artillery piece, two command sprues, one barded warhorse.
And what buildings/scenery were included?

I'm also looking for screenshots, photos and release dates of all these boxes. So if you know, please post!  :)

I'm actualy in the works of making a .doc with all the arts for every unit there is on these arts.. but it isn't finished yet. (2 .docs one for units and one for characters), can't help you on the sprues...
Here are the requested box arts:

7th ed:

What does the text of the 6th ed say, in the upper right corner? And what year is it from?

EDIT:
Ah, found it: Empire Soldiers Regiment. Now I've seen a box with a red border and one without. Wonder if there's a difference in there...

EDIT2:
This is the other one:

No I don't think there is a specific topic on it (and W-E doesn't have an upload site ?yet?), I'm still adding a lot of bits here and there.. I'll see if I can post it soon when it gets a bit more stuff in it.. Lots of pictures might become a problem, maybe I can upload the document to google documents..
I've done some scanning tonight and uploaded it to MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/shadow_z80/photos/albums/warhammer-packages/1449543#mssrc=SitesPhotos_SP_AlbumCover_ViewAlbum

Here's the 8 Halberdier box from 1996:

And the 10 Halberdier box from 1994:

I gave them logical filenames, but I don't think you can track that on MySpace  :/
Guess I'll have to label them all.

The Electors' Forum / Re: 8th edition best core

Ah, ok!
And what are the extra benefits from a Warrior Priest for Halberdiers and Spearman, in comparison to Swordsmen?

214
The Electors' Forum / Re: 8th edition best core
« on: March 25, 2011, 12:19:58 PM »
My take is that halberdiers are the best if you are taking hordes and so are trying to kill the enemy.  They make decent detachements, especially if you don't care about disruption and they are cheap.  At their best against tough opponents where their extra strength really seperates them from the other choices.

Swordsmen are the best detachment if you are trying to cause disruption.  They are also better than spearmen in a deep formation trying to keep steadfast as they have more defense.  At their best against similiarly costed enemy units of WS 3/4 like orcs and skaven where their extra WS and armour seperates them from the other choices.

Spearmen are somewhere in the middle, they are neither as deadly as halberdiers nor as tough as swordsmen.  More situational and so therefore my least favorite.
Why would one choose for Spearmen? The advantage of the spear, Fight in Extra Rank, doesn't have much value since second ranks may attack anway in 8th edition, or am I missing something?

From the rulebook:
Spear = Fight in Extra Rank;
Quote
Fight in extra ranks (p.91)
If a unit has this special rule then supporting attacks can be made by an extra rank than normal on a turn in which the unit did not charge. Accordingly, a unit with this special rule can normally make supporting attacks with two ranks. Remember that supporting attacks cannot be made to the side or rear, but only to the front.

Close Combat;
Quote
Close Combat – supporting attacks (p.48)
Warriors in the second rank do not sit idly by whilst their comrades battle away, but muster forward to strike blows of their own. We refer to the attacks made by these models as supporting attacks.

A model can make a supporting attack if it is directly beind a friendly model that is itself fighting an enemy in base contact. Supporting attacks cannot be made to the side or rear. Nor can they be makde my models that are in base contact with enemies.

Of course, a warrior making a supporting attack is rather more constricted by the press of bodies than one who is face to face with his foe. To represent this, he can only ever make a singly Attack, regardless of the number of Attacks on his profile, or any bonus Attacks he might otherwise be entitled to because of special rules or other unusual effect.

Quote
Close Combat – The Horde (p.49)
Any unit that is at least ten models wide is counted as being a horde. Warriors in a horde can make support attacks from the third rank, not just from the second!

This represents the crush of bodies driving yet more warriors into striking distance, as well as the back ranks surging forwards to assail the unengaged enemy warriors. If the unit drops below the minimum frontage it ceases to be a horde and loses the ability to make these extra supporting attacks.

@Midaski: I'm kinda collecting yes, but it will be used! Or at least, they'll be displayed :P
Guess I still have a weak heart for the old stuff, since I started with 4th edition (and paused during 5th, till 8th).
And like I said, I just got frustrated with the new halberdiers being hard to line up, and after some researching I realized I like the older models personally.
And what do you mean with the less flexible 6th edition spearmen and handgunner?

@StealthKnightSteg: Sounds like a great idea! I plan to scan my 4th edition stuff asap. Not sure where to upload it yet though. Perhaps to my MySpace. Or else open a photobucket account perhaps... (unless Warhammer-Empire has a place already!). Was there a specific topic on that project on the forum?

Btw, can I expect the same problems with the latest Handgunners as with the Halberdiers? The guns seem pretty huge and I wonder if you can line them up properly in a regiment...

216
I have a box of 10 halberdiers from 4th edition and a box of 8 from 5th edition (those static Altdorf models as pictured). 4th edition blisters had a yellow card and 5th edition a red card and were 1 pound more expensive. The halberdier box was the same price, but you just got 8 instead of 10 models. At least that's how I recall it! Might be wrong  :)
Empire didn't get a new army book with 5th edition, did they really have a new wave of state troops/halberdiers for 4th, 5th, 6th AND 7th edition?!

217
I think 5th edition still had the plastic out of the box Altdorf clones, not?
http://www.solegends.com/citcat9x3/c92380empirehalberdsclr-03.htm

220
I just finished putting together my first 7th edition state troops, into halberdiers (no conversions). Really, how do you fit these guys into a unit?! The halberds are sticking out so far! They knock eachother over!!!

Are these 6th edition models: http://www.coolminiornot.com/41148 ?

221
I think the sprues and box arts would be the most enlightening for me  :)
A general list (with preferably pics) of all the Empire waves is on my to-search list as well!
(and may be added to the bookmark topic: http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=37637.0 ;) )

222
Sorry for reviving this topic, but I'm looking for pics to see the difference between the 6th and 7th edition state troops. Anyone know where I can find them?
Cheers!

Sorry for posting in such an old topic, but I really wanted to say that this is an awesome addition to the forum! Kudos!
Personally I haven't used webbrowser bookmarks for ages. It lacks search functions, you always end up forgetting to backup them some time and yeah, using multiple computers just doesn't make it work practically.
