WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Stupidity is stupid.
« on: July 27, 2015, 06:59:22 PM »
Actually Dosiere,i believe Stupid units don't get a charge reaction as they are immune to pysch,or is that just my DE cold one units[knights and chariots].I've  found in 8th that Pysch  plays a  smaller part with BSB rerolls and inspiring presence,as well as leadership buffs

another thing that's bothered me is characters making way.More to the point ,how they do it.
Imagine if you will ,a long bretonnian lance 5 ranks deep and 3 files wide. i hit them in the flank with a horde. on the left hand file of my horde is my squishy mage.in the front rank of the lance is a killy brett lord on their unengaged side.
i leave my mage corner to corner with a RnF knight in order to ensure max models in cbt.
The furthest possible model for that unengaged lord to get to is my mage , yet there he is chopping away with his virtue of heroism.

To make a long[and belaboured] point short,"make way"is open to abuse.

I'm talking about a scenario where the lord charges in unsupported.Telling me not to do that is silly. This discussion is about what we don't like about challenges.

My other heart ache about challenges is placement of models, and entire files being blocked out of the cbt  by an ongoing challenge.I wish we could conduct the challenge  ethereally or set the models off to the side[but in a way that those models in the challenge don't influence the rest of the battlefield].

What about units that can spam multiple champions? grail knights have no designated champ ,but any model may issue/accept challenges.Do Dwarven slayers still have the ability to field multiple champs?

I charge in with  super killy dragon riding badass;he challenges with skellie champ.I kill the champ, but don't break unit. next turn vampire lord ressurects the champ and the dance continues for 1 more round. If I fluff the second round and don;t generate signifigant overkill, his static CR ;3 ranks, banner negate my lack of adding charge to my CR.

The main problem with this scenario is the initiative step between the Lord and Dragon. The lord will in general ,have 4-5 atts at a high or ASF initiative. He will usually[always] strike down the challenger, denying his mount to add his high volume of atts[reg atts plus Tstomp].If the lord only just manages to kill the challenger[2-3 wounds ] he could potentially end up losing the the cbt.

I just hate how a monster mounted character is forced to accept a challenge from a unit champ[if he charges in unsupported or his supporting units champ is dead].With the lords attacks and his mounts attacks, breath and stomp,he could break  steadfast or cause undead crumbling.By accepting the challenge he is knowingly dooming himself to being flanked next turn.

1 not having to accept challenges from lesser models;Lord can disregard hero and champion, hero can disregard  champion.with no repecussions.

1a Challenges happen "ethereally " , so that they don't block models from fighting.

2 put the terror back in fear and terror:Inspiring presence and BSB rerolls negate psych to the point where  the premium that you pay for a terror producer is negated.

3 ditch pre-measuring,especially for warmachines[Dwarven cannons premeasuring and rerolling is just sick

The local WFB scene has dried up in the last year or so.I don't see this pile of tripe changing that.My regular [weekly] opponent and i will likely stick to
8th  'as we both own several armies.Lately we've been alternating weekly between WFB and FOW.

So I suppose it's  a no on both counts from me.

Don't know if these were mentioned.

Challenges: A model shouldn't have to accept challenges from lesser models[lords from heroes and champions, heroes from champions].In particular, monster riders who charge a unit  and get challenged by a goblin champ, negating the monster, and potentially losing the combat.

ASF: No ASF against attacks from flanks or rear.

Psych:It seems way too easy to nerf fear and terror yet undead still pay a premium for it.

Overall I like 8th ,just clarify some ambiguities and streamline some stuff

Bigger goddamned codpieces. After all a man is measured by his codpiece .....and the length of his hat feather

I had Harmonic Convergence on an  engineer supported volleygun .rolled 2 misfires and without hesitatyion rerolled, getting that third misfire. My opponents 32 strong Lothern seaguard regiment was left with a champ and standard bearer.Try as I might, however ,I couldn't finish them. My opponent skillffully hid them away from the rest of my shooters and dispelled my every casting attempt on them.Even though I scored no points for the seaguard, the hole they left in his line and battleplan was enough to secure victory.

Hmmph Stirland of course.

Men of the Empire are judged by three things

 The puffiness of their sleeves

The feathers in their superfly hats

 The size of their codpieces

Not for me personally ,as I find them ugly. However,I wouldn't complain if anyone else had them.To each his own[Warhammer is big enough foe everybody].

WHFB The Electors' Forum / 400 point ally
« on: December 09, 2012, 07:03:41 PM »
For our next LGS tournament I have suggested  2000 pts with a 400 pt ally detachment comprised of a hero level character leading a core unit choice . My main list will be  Either Empire,HE,or Brets[maybe my buddy can lend me some Dwarfs].

build me 400 pts using one of those 4 choices ;ie Bretonnian  damsel  with 40 peasant archers or a warrior priest and 9 IC knights.

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: How Many of You Play in Tournaments?
« on: December 06, 2012, 08:00:58 PM »
My LGS alternates each months tourny between 40k and fantasy[I only attend fantasy].We average about 16players for a 3[sometimes 4]round event. For the most part ,it is pretty layed back, with only a few WAAC players. My DE usually place high or win while my Empire holds its own.Once a year we will play a doubles tourny. We don't play with comp, and most don't take advantage[The HE players never use Teclis or the Book,I've only ever taken double hydras once].We used to give a sportsmanship score but stopped since most everyone always gave 5/5 negating its value.Painting is a seperate prize with no bearing on the event winner.

ASF- to the front, fine;flanks & rear, not so much

 Skirmishers losing 360 LOS

Watchtower scenario; we usually just score an extra 500 points.on a related point we do the same for" blood and glory"

The Parade Ground / 2400 pt tourny list[potentially]
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:12:31 PM »
Hi all I am going to a local tourny on the 8th of Dec[laid back crowd;not cut throat with a few exceptions].I normally play my DE list but want to try my  Imperial force for a change.

Karl Franz With the hammer

Lvl 4 with a dispell

Luthor Huss

Bsb plate\sh dragon helm ogreblade

17 IC knights FC [Steel Standard]
16 crossbows FC
35 Halberds with sheilds FC

48 Great swords FC [Banner of eternal flame]

My alternate force is a little more conventional

Arch lector AOMI White Cloak GW           in greatswords
Lvl 3 dispell,Talisman of endurance       in spears
BSB plate\sh dragonhelm  ironcurse icon     in greatswords
mounted captain plate \sh ogreblade          in knights
mounted warrior priest hvy\sh  crown of command      in knights
master engineer repeater pistol               hanging around the battery
13 IC knights FC  Wailing Banner
16 Crossbows FC
39 spearmen FC

38 Greatswords FC St of Discipline
1 greatcannon

1 hellblaster volleygun

I'm not super concerned with winning[would be nice though].Would any of you feel bad if I put either of these armies down on the table in a tournament[personally ,I don't see either being over the top].

We usually play 3 games ,but sometimes 4 so I designed the lists to be easy to pack\unpack\move around[LOL I know that shouldn't really be a consideration].

Opponents will run the gamut of races though out of our usual 16-18 players ogres and Skaven will probablly rep 1\2 the field.

Kind of a waste. You will never get to maximize your frontage against an opponent[10 wide cav vs 10 wide infantry leaves a few knights unengaged].Be prepared to face a lot of redirectors and templates.
Good luck with it,I'm sure it will look splendid on the table .

Way to expensive ,both, in game terms as well as pocketwise.Horribly ugly model as well.

Actually Rommel I don't think cav gets the third rank attack in horde formation .I believe it only applies to infantry

My current tourny list does not include a mage ,so the big frog will have to eat his own miscasts.3 WPs and an AL for 5 DD, and  every possible MR 2 item I could squeeze in should mitigate magic.

Watch tower scenario .With a WP they can be core and occupy the tower.Every round of combat in the tower is the 1st round[so always striking at +2S].They could stand to be buffed initiative wise though in that situation.
