yes, but if the archers were screening the Treekinfrom the swordsmen before the Wardancers charged they couldn't declare a charge anyway, you have to declare all your charges before you move any of them, which means the Treekin would've needed to be able to declare a legal charge before the wardancers moved in and your archers formed up

they could just see the swordsmen.

hoooboi.  This is what happens when people don't read the directions.

Note that in 7th, *BOTH* sides have to maximize, and skirmishers are no exception.  The archers would have to be further over to get more of the wardancers in contact, so your opponant was correct as far as placement goes.

I dont want to be a pain but could you quote me that rule please, seeing as different people seem to have different views here. I couldnt find anywhere it said specifically i had to get as many of his models into contact just mine.

Cheers

Nath

Also the Treekin canīt charge past your unit because the have to reach the front of your unit with one wheel impossible so you placed them well or your opponent made the mistake to not charge with the treekin first. Archer screens are soooo great.

yeah he charged the prancers first because my archers where screening the swords from the treekin(he could only just see them) archer screens are awesome

so would the tree kin just failed charge?

thanks for the replys

okay in my last game several events happened that me and my mate where unsure how to resolve(models used as proxy to illustrate the point)

okay heres the first. The issue arrose when his wardancers charged my archers, now the rules say that the closest model move into contact with the closest model which we get and then all his guys who can reach base to base with HIS model line up with them. after which my archers move into contact this is where the problem happened. i moved my archers into this position

now i thought that was okay because they where all in contact and that was the shortest move into position(plus to my advantage it keeps more prancers out of combat)

where as my mate thought that this was the correct placement, reason being he thought his prancers would make sure he got as many people in as possible, however the rulebook doesnt say i (the charged) have to maximise his contact, only that i have to bring as many into contact with an enemy.

now we all know the prancers will kill them anyway but the problem arrose because of the next picture

as you can see the treekin charged the detachment cause they could see them however because of my archer they would clip on a straight charge so they would have to wheel. now from what i can understand you only get one wheel on the charge and this wheel would cause the charge to miss as you can see from the yellow line.

so my questions really are what would happen.

cheers in advance

The Parade Ground / 2000pts tourny list, need help balancing it
« on: July 12, 2008, 05:53:10 PM »
hi all this is my latest 2000pts list and im looking for advice on what to change and to to generally improve/streamline it.

so here we go

General                        215
arch lector
barded steed
sword of might
holy relic
heavy armour
shield

*i chose an arch lector for the magic defence and leadership. im not sure if i have equipped him well so advice is needed here. he will stay with the infantry line probably leading 3rd battalion greatswords to make best use of his hatred.

captain                            157
pegasus
lance
FPA
enchanted shield
doomfire ring

* for general harrassment, war machine and mage hunting bound spell for attacking down lines of missile troops

captain                            168
pegasus
lance
pistol
FPA
enchanted shield
casket of sorcery

* same as other pegasus but if i dont have a safe shot at killing a mage in cc (cause its in a unit or something similar) i hope to use the casket to weaken the enemy magic phase

1st Battalion                            333
30 swordsmen
F.C
w/9 swordsmen detachment
w/8 archer detachment

2nd battalion                           333
30 swordsmen
F.C
w/9 swordsmen detachment
w/8 archer detachment

3rd battalion                           398
25 greatswords
F.C
w/9 swordsmen detachment
w/8 archer detachment

* this i believe will give me a solid battle line, my questions are:
1 are the greatswords a good choice,
2 where should the arch lector go, the greatswords seem like the best option to make use of hatred, but being stubborn makes them a good choice for the flank when really i want the general in the centre to give leadership to the other two battalions. what do you think

cannon                     100

cannon                     100

5 knights                   115

total 1999
power 2
dispel  4

so what do you think? should i drop the knights and shuffle some point to get a warrior priest in there? should i swap out the greatswords for normal swordsmen, it would save alot of points?

this list needs to be able to take on all comers, from dragons(i think ill struggle against these) to giants to hordes. i cant help but think that ive nbot got enough tricks and gadgets to supprise my opponent

thanks in advance

whilst rooting through my mess (read: warhammer) I found:

a marco columbo model

one of those night gobbo models where they are throwing the other out of the unit

and one of the josef bugman models only available from bugmans bar

my question is are these worth anything and if they are what part of the world

Cheers

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Free Companies, yes or no?
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:17:11 PM »
if you want the unit to be charged you would be better off with swordsmen and free company detachments

if you are new to the empire i recommend you read through the Reman legion article on these forums as they explain hopw to use detachments efficiently

however if you are deadset on taking free company go for it, but with no armour expect them to die rather easily

i think geoff means that when your closest skirmisher is contacted he believes that they should reform on the spot

Meaning that even though your archer is at an angle(so the knights hit a corner of the base and not a side)

he thinks as soon as the knights hit the corner the archers reform (knights dont wheel)

where as you say that once they have hit the corner the knights wheel to hit the side and then the skirmishers rank up

NOTE: i presume we are talkuing about the archers holding otherwise the closest archer would instigate the flee from the centre of the knights as per marcus' rules statement at the beginning

hope this clears things up

personally i like it just make sure the artillery is either two cannons or two mortars dont mix them, and i would give the wizard the rod of power instead of VHS

personnaly i would drop the mortar and wedge in another cannon, or drop the cannon and wedge in another mortar as artillery works better in pairs as you can cover a wider area (a cannon on each flank is good if you can guess ranges well)

other than that i would drop the handgunners for a free company detachment.

and maybe wedge those archers in for a screen

with your models available i woul go with a list like this

Warriors priest of Sigmar
Gen, 2nd HW, AOMI,
119pts

Battle Wizard
lvl2,  dispel scroll
125pts

25 Halberdiers
FC
shields
Det: 10 Free company fighters
220pts

24 Swordsmen
FC
Det: 10 free company
193pts

5 Knights
Mus.
123pts

Great cannon
100pts

Great cannon
100pts

and that leaves you at 980 pts with 20 pts left to buy a magic item or add more troops

as you can see i have only made subtle changes (your list was pretty good to begin with)

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Ring of Volans or Powerstone?
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:18:25 PM »
well i used it last night on my warrior priest and he rolled flaming sword of rhuin :biggriin: which caused two wounds on the treekin unit doubled to four and by the end of the combat i had CR 10 and he had CR9 (the one remaining treekin didnt kill any greatswords :-D).

where as my death mage had a power stone and near the end of the battle killed two waywatchers with dark hand of death and then used doom and darkness(-3 LD) with a power stone plus one dice from my pool causing them to flee. unfortunetly they rallied the next turn (turn 6) so its very handy to force a strong magic phase but dont use it unless you need it

all in all I would say the ring made a big impact but the power stone has the potential to be very deadly if used correctly
