I actualy ended up purchasing it- it's an intresting time capsule, has little other value.

The included card buildings are nice... Ultimately I deemed it not worth owning.

Giving my Necromancer and Apprentice the same treatment as my Enchanters Warband- some pics of them in the midst of terrain. I traded for and painted this GW Crypt, lovely model.

Played my first game with these guys last night, I'm a pretty big fan of the imp- it's the first time I have ever used a thief.

*Unlike our enchanter friend whom has taken up residence in a cabin deep in the midst of the woods, our Necromancer has decided to set up his workshop in a hidden and long forgotten crypt along the edge of a graveyard. Evidence of occupation no doubt given away by the supplies left near the crypt.

*Although lucrative earnings can be made from the many alchemical compounds found in the dreaded purple worms, their presence in a graveyard is heretical to our Necromancer. The creature must be destroyed before it can violate more graves...

Best gaming this month was an XWing mini campaign using local rules.

What did that involve?

So we have experimented with Node Campaigns- using the Battlechest system from Battletech (worked well btw) and a sort of connect four stile match.

Ultimately our big innovation was "Faction Teams" and a black dot system under the flag of Campaign in a Day.

Three Players, same faction- the rule is no repeated black dots between the three players-
Effect- breaks up the meta. Prevents list spamming and makes for more unique lists. Players will often create theme lists between them- ie- all use Ties or Interceptors and wear matching shirts.

In that campaign we did a connect four mechanic where we played each round on a grid- both players bid a square on a 8x8 map and the first faction to get five in a row won, with wins from the previous round "locked" in. 70 & 100 point matches depending on the round number. Pairings were determined by players selecting what board they were playing on- and kept secret until before the match.

Honestly- I know that sounds like a hot mess- buts it's freaking uncanny. I highly recommend this kind of format. I'm very near to publishing a formal PDF for boardgame geek.

More Strange Aeons

Trying some Battletech again (mostly as a hobby project)

Chaos in Carpathia is a great rules-set. Highly recommend. I wish there was a physical book.

I have some vampire wars miniatures I have been wanting to play for a while.

@023- Ye gods that is my favorite Marenburg army... Ever... Possibly fav army on the Internet...

@GP- Convinced you're not gaming- when are we going to play another round? - I saw your post on dragon rampant; it's an amazing game with simple rules and a modest miniature count. I really recomend it.

Played some more Strange Aeons this week, did some work on a second Frostgrave warband and made an arrangement to paint some Battletech

Group 1- (For Friend)
House Steiner (8 Mechs)
Wolfs Dragoons (8 Mechs)

Group 2- (For Me)
House Steiner (4 Mechs)
Oberon Confederacy (8 Mechs)
Grey Death Legion (4 Mechs)
House Kurita (1 Mech)

Padre- you're a monster and one of my greatest inspirations on this forum. You're content alone is what keeps me coming back month after month. I owe ya a beer (or a sandwich) if I'm ever in the area again. You're awesome, and one of the greatest contributors to this hobby that I know of. You bring out the art of miniatures.

Zygmund & @ Future Posts- pics or I have to assume you're making up stories.

Nobody does any other gaming? Everyone just looks at their pile of plastic and mutters a sigh?

Well... I gave up. Warhammer is now officially dead in the greater context of my gaming and local hobby scene. I was the last hold out. I ordered dragon rampant hoping to salvage some of my fantasy gaming but I have the gut feeling that my days of mass fantasy battles are done... I'm sorry my friends. It's a fight I have lost.

I've switched over to some great alternatives. I've had the oprtunity to explore Strange Aeons - it's been a ton of fun. It's allowed me to enjoy some of my Call of Cthulhu roots and X-Files stile gaming. In addition I've been playing lots of Frostgrave; I really recomend it, I find it satisfying and it allows me to enjoy decent skirmish gaming in a club environment. X-Wing Campaigns have become the centerpiece of gaming events I host- and on the whole I have increased the number of Boardgames played- including a recent string of Memoir 44, Kings Forge, March of the Ants and other games have blessed me with some really great gaming experiences recently. Just played some Deadzone and Uncharted seas too! I've been lucky, I've had more opportunity for gaming recently, but WHFB stands like a doomed shadow atop of my gaming shelves. Unloved and with thousands of points unassembled.

What have you cats been up to lately? Pics or it didn't happen!

As soon as you get Skaven wearing what amounts to warpstone-powered POWER ARMOUR then you know GW jumped the shark and they know it too...

...So, after my little talk, what do you think? Are the End Times really that bad?

The shark has been jumped...

Comfort Me- The Empire Is Burning... I have been loosing interest- for a while, this seems like the bookend on my nearly 20 years of Warhammer Empire gaming.

I'm officially depressed.

I really loved the warhammer setting, it's been my fantasy game setting for 22 years now. I've had the opertunity to watch it grow and mature, I've seen people build some wonderful things from it.

Bubblehammer has potential, I imagine it will be like the Ravenloft setting with lords pulling togther realms into smaller "worlds"... I even like small armies (1250 is my fav point bracket for a number of reasons)- but I feel like this change hurts my perception of the game more than it helps.

Looking back at it- Ultimately, I didn't get to play a single warhammer game in 2014- instead I played a freaking ton of X-Wing and Attack Wing and a freaking ton of Boardgames. So my greatest year of gaming, Didn't include a single painted miniature. Every one of my friends has abandoned warhammer fantasy.

I love my miniatures... I love my little empire army. I love my warhammer terrain. But this year I will likely try to finish a number of projects and sell off a number of older things I was never going to get to.

Perhaps warhammer will become like the trainset... Only taken out at christmas.

Don't be insane.... Terrain is the "third army", adjust your tactics and army composition to match the board/ not the other way around!

I would make another few tiles from matching material and paint em up to match!

« on: January 07, 2014, 03:11:28 AM »
I guess I'm saying that my concept of what is warhammer and why we play has changed now that I have experimented more with boardgames, 1st edition d&d and other hobby games. My break from warhammer has been enlightening.

There is nothing WHFB does for me that battle lore does not. In fact I have had more fun playing battle lore and command and colors Nep this last year than anything else. The new second edition is amazing by the way.

In fact using 10mm models for warhammer games makes more sense.... I've begun using the heroes and hordes rules set due to all the time spent in Germany this year. My little undead and human armies are really very fun to play, and as easy as BFGothic to paint! (Price is Cheaper by a factor of 20).... I'm instead finding myself being drawn back into the hobby but from a different angle.

I'm saving my 1000th post for something worthwhile.., May be a while until I post.

Sigmars Blood is an amazing new book. Downright Uncanny.

Concept:Roleplay vs Rollplay has been receiving a great deal of attention.

Regiments of renown are innovative rules, especially when combined with Warbands or Skirmish.

I've experment a lot with "padre" stile play....

The forge world book is also amazing...

Wild speculation. Ideas. How do you play locally that makes your group successful?

... Yea, I totaly bought into X-Wing. 2 Core Sets, X-Wing, Y-Wing, Tie, Adv Tie...

Worst part is I chose this game rather than lunch and gas.

Another friend bought Firestorm... bought a starter fleet.

Then A friend suggested I get into Chaos Into Carpathia... now I own 4 West Wind Nosfrutu and am addicted to reading Lead Adventure Forum Posts...

Now that same as$hole is getting me into "Innsmouth Gaming", and I am looking at buying a bunch of that stuff too...

I cant stop buying into systems...
