Well... I gave up. Warhammer is now officially dead in the greater context of my gaming and local hobby scene. I was the last hold out. I ordered dragon rampant hoping to salvage some of my fantasy gaming but I have the gut feeling that my days of mass fantasy battles are done... I'm sorry my friends. It's a fight I have lost.

I've switched over to some great alternatives. I've had the oprtunity to explore Strange Aeons - it's been a ton of fun. It's allowed me to enjoy some of my Call of Cthulhu roots and X-Files stile gaming. In addition I've been playing lots of Frostgrave; I really recomend it, I find it satisfying and it allows me to enjoy decent skirmish gaming in a club environment. X-Wing Campaigns have become the centerpiece of gaming events I host- and on the whole I have increased the number of Boardgames played- including a recent string of Memoir 44, Kings Forge, March of the Ants and other games have blessed me with some really great gaming experiences recently. Just played some Deadzone and Uncharted seas too! I've been lucky, I've had more opportunity for gaming recently, but WHFB stands like a doomed shadow atop of my gaming shelves. Unloved and with thousands of points unassembled.

What have you cats been up to lately? Pics or it didn't happen!

The Count's Tavern / What would it take to "Save Warhammer"

Wild speculation. Ideas. How do you play locally that makes your group successful?

In the name of Ulric.... when will this ever come?

Why no Halflings or Imperial Ogres... heck, a Giant would have been nice. Wizard war wagons... but no regular war wagons?

1996 was the 4th edition book release, and I feel like they are still living in the shadow of this text nearly 20 years latter.

Yea... the crazy thing is its so good looking. This is a fine damn book. So close yet so far....

I am going to post these because I am really very proud of what I have managed to accomplish.

Bit of Background: I was told by word of mouth that I should not attend a Warmachine Tunney in New Hampshire this weekend because the organizer does not like me... (Freaking Hobby Drama, WTF!) This actually made me pretty mad... The message was delivered via evil goon whom drove apparently 20 minutes out of his way to tell me to frack off. Second, the fat dude whom is running the thing is a drama queen who is an infamously bad player and used to pick on me in grade school. Oh, and I don't play warmachine...

I was not going to let this slight on my wally-hood go unnoticed.... so I had 4 days to learn how to play well enough to beat a fat slob, collect an army and its gaming aids and paint the whole thing. With 2 hours left to spare I present to you folks at home... a painted warmachine force in less than 72 hours!

I signed up under the name William Bradbury and happened to have the luck to draw a first round fight against the evil goon whom delivered the message. In intend to go there and rip his warjacks into little pieces. I am not expecting to win, but I suspect I play as well as any of them and have a fair chance of beating my way into some of the final rounds.

Painting Soundtrack: Edwarde Sharpe & Magnetic Zero Pandora

Whole Collection Displayed

Unit Cards, Gaming Aids and Starter Dice

All Warjack weapon systems are Magnetized

The Warjacks

Power Armored Guys

Winter Guard using Alternate Miniatures (Just to piss this guy off.)

Captain, Standard Barrier to Left

Steve, The Heavy Weapons Guy

The only miniatures I did not finish (Sniper, Warcaster and her little dog too!)

A close up of what turns out to be the worst set of arms in the worst pose with mold lines showing through.... cant win them all but they are already packed up for tomorrows game. I expect I will be one of the few painted forces there.

I actually fully expect him to find an excuse to disqualify me or prevent me from even playing. I expect to not be allowed to use the alternate winter-guard troopers. Perhaps citing an error in an army list or so. Its actually part of the fun... Crashing his warmachine party and crushing his idiot friend.

So Uncharted Seas followed by a War-Machine tourney tomorrow... wish me luck! I'm off to go teach these redundant monkeys a lesson!

Maybe we should start writing in their blog what kind of humans we want, now is the best time to have them hear our needs, it seems.

Every release their plastics seem to get better... and in the far distance there is a promise of Mantic Humans...

What is on your wishlist?

Besides the entry for Stirland River Patrol in Uniforms and Heraldry, does anyone have any suggestions?

The Count's Tavern / Albion & The Giants Causeway; Need 7 Giants
« on: April 15, 2012, 03:56:05 AM »
Myself and a small group of gamers are revisiting Albion this summer. We are playing out the events of this stormy island and have been modeling up the boards to play a mighty campaign of destruction and awesome.

We are campaigning with armies of 1500pts, a point limit chosen for a few reasons. The Giants Causeway needs 7 giants at this point level, so I need 7 suitable figures to work as giants. I am looking for advice and cheap giants. I would prefer to pay less than $4 a sulupt and am not against using troll action figures or toys in general (less to paint)

Does anyone have any advice?

This is an open apology to the Animosity and Warhammer-Empire gaming community.

I wanted to apologize to the gaming world at large for failing to meet my own expectations of quality and excellence that I have set forth for myself in regards to gaming and miniature hobby work. I am uncertain how to rectify the situation; but intend to overcome my own weaknesses and shortcomings in miniature war gaming, role-play and board game hobbies.

I am open to advice; and am open to any thoughts comments and concerns regarding the next few months at my work-table.

The Count's Tavern / On the topic of owning more than 1 empire army...
« on: December 19, 2011, 08:50:18 PM »
Well, I have begun finishing my Middenland and Ostland armies... its been a long process. The concept was to refinish my entire empire army to more correctly fit the backgrounds given in CIM, EOW & T&G for participation in the numerous campaigns that have run in the last few years.

Pictures will follow after christmass (Daddy is hoping for a new camera!)

So two weeks ago I painted a stirlander swordsman. The idea was to create a core to an army so I could add a few extras and have a legit 1250 point army for my famous little battles/campaigns that I enjoy so. Then it occured to me that the points total was quickly exceeding the 3000point barrier of "new empire". With monsters and magic the total could be pushed farther and by adding some of my "antiques" the number was getting close to 5k... a little much for my casual play stile.

Who owns more than 1 prodvince? Is there any real practical use and have you gentlemen found that owning more empire is really usefull or just more foder for the cannons of the empire world?

Edit In/

Is there any clear reason for owning so many troops or do individuals find that painting up terrain and extras are more rewarding over time?

The Count's Tavern / Employment for an Empire Army (Allies)
« on: November 27, 2011, 03:09:32 AM »
The talk of an allies book has be intrested in the concept of doing mini factions to supplement my own warhammer army in the intersite campaigns. In the same way a hapsburg army might have hired germans in the invasion of the papal states, I imagine that the empire is often used as mercanaries to supplement these other armies.

Dwarf Allies when one plays as a member of the Brotherhood of the Lost
Telian Allies when one plays as a member of the Golden Company
Arab Allies when one plays as a member of the Araby Intervention Force

I notice that padre does something similar when he participates in these campaigns. I was wondering what other peoples thoughts where on the inclusion of allies in warhammer games and what army lists one might consider kosher to steal units from. General thoughts and  opinions welcome.

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Ideal Warhammer Terrain Set
« on: November 27, 2011, 02:46:24 AM »
I have actualy asked this twice before (once for 6th ed and again in 7th)

What is the ideal collection of warhammer empire terrain? (The idea being that you bring a bucket with all your own terrain to a shop...)

Wallys Thoughts
Basic Set (Take to all events)
x4 Forests
x1 Hill
x1 Tower

Expaned Set
x1 Big Thing Ruins/Wilderness(Temple of Skulls)
x1 Big Thing Humans (Town Wall Set)
x1 Farm/Small Town (With Fixings; Barrels, Walls, Animals)

Thoughts? Your take?

The Count's Tavern / Are you happy with your Warhammer Collections?
« on: October 25, 2011, 01:32:00 AM »
Open Question-

Are you guys happy with your warhammer collections?
-The space they take up?
-The orginization of your collection?
-Do you have lots of extra stuff you will not get around to using?
-Your Terrain?
-Your Paint Jobs?

What would you discribe as your greatest problem to overcome?
Do you feel miniature wargaming is worthwhile as a hobby?

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Abstract Question: Galley Wars
« on: October 19, 2011, 04:11:54 PM »
Ive been looking at the fluff that I can find, my original idea was to play a series of engagements as a campaign focusing on one of the rivers in the empire. As I dig deeper it seems that the River Cog or Galley of MOW is the primary ship of the line. Its shallow enough to be used for trade and its forward mounted cannons are ideal for the river wars fought in the empire. Infact its a nice little engine of war and "inwards" exploration, I am suprised that so many players forgo the galley for greatships in their stories and animosity char.

It occured to me that my experiences with MOW and Uncharted Seas have been focused entirely on open ocean combat. The reading I have done so far indicates that River combat is very very diffrent.

I was wondering if I could have opinions on how river conflict might differ in the empire. (Wind Direction being replaced with current, islands, solid sides to the board.) I am really looking for ideas and opinions/pitches.

My research also seems to indicate that the Galley of the empire is nearly identical to their telian brothers. (Guessing true, as they also function as telian pirates in the MOW box set)

My other questions pretain to how these vessles would be viewed in the context of Empire of Wolves or Trechery and Greed. I cant imagine that they would make up the bulk of said fleets in these conflicts, and these fleets may even be pre-greatship.

Thoughts please. Open Disscusion. I am sorry that the post is so screwy.

The Parade Ground / 1250 Empire Army; Good Experience
« on: April 21, 2011, 02:25:33 PM »
Played some quick games with a friend.

Empire Army (an awful army... ) Fully Painted
20 X-Bow w/ Command (useless)
40 Spear w/ Command
6 Knights w/ Mus
1 Cannon *(did nothing but misfire both games.)
20 Great-Swords w/ Command

1 General
1 WP
1 Army Standard Barrier
1 Battle Wizard (Death)

Undead Army (an ok army...) Fully Painted
10 Black Knights w/ Command
10 Black Knights w/ Command
10 Dire Wolves
10 Dire Wolves
21 Ghouls w/ Champ

2 Nasty Vampires on Horse

Played two games - Only painted armies in the shop. Watched with interest by about 8 kids, taught 2 people how to play. "Sold" 1 starter set and 2 army boxes to various 40K kids.

Game #1
VC player engaged down the center of the board, general sniped with death lore. Game ended when other vampire was gradually killed by great swords. Opponent was out maneuvered. 80% of empire is dead, VC massacred.

Game #2
VC player did all sorts of sneaky stuff, general sniped with death lore. Game ended when other vampire was gradually killed by great-swords. Opponent was out maneuvered. 80% of empire is dead, VC massacred.

My Conclusion -
Death Lore Rocks... 6 Knights still rock. WP in spear horde rocks. Out maneuvering and outplaying an opponent is how you win war-hammer. Had Great Fun.

Mitche's Conclusion -
Death Lore Rocks... Needs more ghouls, considering running a skeleton block. Wished he had brought the necro. Considering revising his magic phase for 8th. Wants to play campaign. 10 Black Knights rock. Wanted to work on his maneuvering more. Had Great Fun.

Crowds Conclusion - (not joking)
Empire is a top tier army, undead are unplayable, Mitch should sell all of his undead and buy vampire counts, I am a ruthless player. By not playing in the ard boys we are being jerks and hurting the store, are armies where too well painted. Spear-men are too powerful for their points. Running " 'nilla heroes" is lame.

Our conclusion of the "crowd" -

The Count's Tavern / Social Contract: Store and it's Gamers
« on: April 14, 2011, 05:53:51 PM »

Got Me Thinking... I hate playing in shops. This article manages to miss out on what I consider some of the key points in this contract and why that contract does not favor the casual gamer... Thought it would be worth sharing...

Had some thoughts about this... It seems with the re-introduction of "Assassin" type heroes from the O&G book... well that the witch hunters should benefit from a similar rule or somehow be similar to the Goblin Sneaks. The Witch Hunter general should be an hero alternative to our "magic defense" priests...

The Brush and Palette / Warhammer Hill - Looking for Replacement/Suj.
« on: March 25, 2011, 05:52:12 PM »
Ok -

So I have this core belief. When playing Warhammer I have my whole army tucked into a nice case. This case contains my 1,250 Point Army and set of Terrain - 6x4 Mat, x1 Tower, x2 Woods, x1 Hill, x1 Set of Walls and a Farm (+1-2 Do-dads)

This is like the fourth time the pink foam hill has been ruined. Huge chunk taken from the top because a local kid did a face-plant into my miniatures case. (Not his fault, His face will recover, no minis hurt...)

I almost bought the GW plastic hill.... except when I picked it up it had a price tag of 25Usd. Its indestructible but it costs money... seems like a good trade off... but I thought I would check around here first.

Anyone have an alternate solution?

The Count's Tavern / Hypothetical Situation - Taking Over Ostland

Hypothetical Situation

Big Map of Ostland
And Its Gazetteer - 2E

So you got good ol' GAUSCHDORF... Love that fort... never could spell it...

Region 24
Ruler Margrave Manfred Bothe
LR24B - Göhren - Village
LR24C - Mönkebunde - Village
LR24D - Zinnowitz - Village

And you want to fight for it... lets portend that Manfred has an electoral vote. He is not someone to be subjugated quickly... and his region will be hard to bring under control and at the same time another faction will be trying to battle for it as well. Lets say Faction Red and Faction Gold.

Margrave Manfred Bothe is currently in position of a political vote that you want... you have to ensure he votes the way you want in a coming election. All that we know about him is that he controls this fort.

GAUSCHDORF is a Fort that will be hard to lay siege to... it has a wealth of 2, so it can sustain itself. Its primary income is supplied by its sounding agriculture trade and tithes on its villages. Its garrison sports "20a, 80b/ 40c" in peace time... I think you can assume that it will be hard to besiege and you will have to fear a sally forth.

Göhren is a village with a pathetic garison of 4c... It exsists at the subsistence level.
Mönkebunde is a village that is equally undefended with 5c.   It is a fishing village.
Zinnowitz is a fishing village with a garison of 6c.

A fort sounded by 3 villages, Margrave is looking to be a lord of little else but fish.

The Brush and Palette / Middenhiem Army and Winter Table *(My Buddies)
« on: January 31, 2011, 02:45:30 PM »
A good pal of mine back in Maine has created a winter table and begun modeling a Middenhiem army. Check it out, some serious talent here. I love his ogres and I would like to express how detailed those towers/castle are. With any luck I might get him to post more pictures. Cheer him on, perhaps we can get him to join the forums!

Ruined Stronghold

Knights of the White Wolf w/ Musician

WIP Flagellants w/ Norse General

Ogres w/ 2 Hand Weapons

The magician is very nicely painted (:icon_biggrin:), I know he has some Kesliv lancers hiding somewhere.
