Warhammer 40k Discussion / Re: 1000pts Eldar for Planetary Empires
« on: May 27, 2012, 05:14:25 AM »
Well, I've had 4 games so far. First up I completely wiped out a Dark Eldar army. The Wraithlord was the man of the match smashing half the army alone as S3 tends to struggle against T8

Second up I played Orks. Unfortunately the game only lasted 3 turns and he was ahead on objectives 3-2 at the time and was given the win (grumble...) I then played a fairly similair Dark Edlar army and got a draw with some Wracks only just getting into 3" of an objective which I held to deny me victory.

I launched an attack onto another planet and took a Necron starport with the Dark Reapers mowing down a big squad of Lycheguard led by Obyron before they got into combat. The scorpions engaged a warrior squad with a lord for an objective to contest it while my Rangers held the other.

So far the Rangers have been good for holding objectives, but been useless with shooting and the D-Cannon has been a spectacular waste of points missing constantly. My Scorpions, Reapers and Wraithlord have been doing most of the dameage so far.

Thanks for the kind words Count Wolfenstein! My estimate is around 10 players give or take semi-competitive. All games are on a 48" by 48" board. Myself and most of the others are in it for fun but there's two or three "must win" competitors.

You're right about my list being fluffy (which is how I play with all my armies, including Empire ), but in all my Eldar experience I think Scorpions are better than Banshees. Their better save, more attacks but mainly for their S4. Banshees struggle to wound at S3, I hope they get Furious Charge in their next Codex! I don't have any Harlequins either, too intimidated by the painting :|.

I'm thinking of upgrading the pathfinders and dropping the Warlock. Does anyone know if they can actually man the D-Cannon if the crew die? My Wraithlord doesn't have a second flamer because I use the old metal one.

Thanks for the tips Crimsonsphinx. The Reapers are mainly there for their 48" AP3 weapons wich carve up Marines & Necrons which I tent to play against a lot. I do agree that they are over priced, probably due to the age of the Eldar Codex which is an edition or two out of sync. I'm afraid I don't have a Farseer so that won't be happening unfortunately as I know how useful they can be!

I'm going to be in a Planetary Empires campaign soon and want to avoid using one of the more common and OP armies. I thought I'd use my Eldar and need a 1000pt list to be used the whole campaign. The only forces I know I'll be up against so far are Space Marines, Daemons and Necrons. This is what I'm thinking:

Shuriken Pistol, Scorpion Chainsword, Banshee Mask

7 Striking Scorpions and Exarch with Scorpions Claw

Wave Serpent:
Twin-Linked Bright Lances, Twin-Linked Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stone

9 Dire Avengers and Exarch with Power Weapon and Shimmershield

6 Rangers

4 Dark Reapers

D-Cannon Crew:
Warlock with Conceal

Flamer, Shuriken Catapult, Starcannon, Wraithsword

I've never played Planetary Empires before so any advice would be appreciated!

I can't believe they have actually re-made these guys, but happy about it though. The helmets are a little underdone compared with the rest, but better that the 2 foot long hats they had!

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Count Martin of Stirland
« on: December 14, 2010, 04:34:43 AM »
This is a fluff question about Count Martin of Stirland who won the battle of Hel Fenn in 2145. I am sure I read something about him being elected Emperor after that feat, but cannot for the life of me remember where it was. This was during the age of 3 emperors which makes it even more tricky as there were several 'pretenders' to the throne all at the same time. I've gone through all the official Empire, VC and Undead books but haven't found anything about him becoming emperor.

Knowing me i'm just imagining things or the fluff i'm thinking of is outdated...

Just found these on the Strike to Stun website forum:

Neuland – Empire colony, Albion
Antoch – Bretonnian ‘Crusader’ Fortress, Araby
Sudenburg – Empire Prison Settlement, Araby
Bregonne – Bretonnian Settlement, Lustria
Nuevo Luccini – Tilean colony, Lustria
Port Heldenhammer – Empire colony, Lustria
Santa Magritta – Estalian colony, Lustria
Skeggi – Norse Colony, Lustria

Thought it might be useful...

Found a few others:

El-Kalabad - Imperial colony in Khemri on the Gulf of Medes
The Skaven Clan Eshin colony in Nippon
Arnheim - A Elven colony in the New World, south of the Dark Elves

I think the Empire has a colony in Araby, mainly for trade, called Sudenburg. Maybe that could be your theme?

The Storm of Chaos book had some pics and dioramas of Middenheim in it. You might be able to find some inspiration there.

Empire Army Book 8th Edition / Re: kislev army ist
« on: December 09, 2009, 03:37:03 AM »
Here are some magic items i've made up and a few I stole from Tuomas Pirinen's Citadel Journal list as well

Magic Weapons

Magic Axe of Miska: 75 pts.
This axe was made by Miska the Slaughterer for her second husband, Mikhail Gregorov. It is exceedingly heavy weapon, and its strikes leave destruction in their wake.
The Holy Axe of Miska has +2 on its rolls to wound, and confers extra -2 armour saving throw. Any unsaved wound=D3 wounds.

The Sword of Tor: 40 pts
He who wields this weapon is granted supernatural strength by Tor, god of thunder.
This weapon gives +2 strength to the wielder in close combat.

Boots of Seven Leagues: 25 pts.
Young prince Ivan used these boots to escape a dreaded Sorcerer when he rescued Visalia the Wise from his clutches.
The wearer has a movement of 12", allowing him/her to charge 24". In addition, he/she may jump over any terrain features or units. He/she is never slowed by any terrain features, and may jump over rivers, swaps etc

The Bow of the Ancient Ungol Chieftains: 30 pts.
An age old bow that’s been handed down through the Ungol nobility since before the Gospodar invasion.
Raises the users BS by 1 and may re-roll dice to hit.

Magic Armour

Armour of Alexander: 50 pts.
This armour was made for the Tzar Alexander by dwarfs. It is a chain mail of unrivalled beauty and strength, and every link of the armour is inscribed the words "Gods are with us and thus we cannot fail." Tzar Alexander was never wounded while wearing this armour.
The armour of confers a save of 3+. If this save fails, the wearer may immediately roll again. This additional save is never modified by strength. If either armour save is made, the opponent’s weapon is frozen and broken on a roll of 5+. This affects only magical weapons.

Ice Armour of Jekatrina: 35 pts.
This enchanting armour was fashioned out of pure magic and ice by the Tzarina Jekatrina. It is enchanted against physical damage, but a very powerful blow may shatter it
This armour gives a basic 1+ save on. If the save ever fails the armour is destroyed. Ice-Mages can wear the Ice Armour without it affecting their ability to cast spells.

Amulet of Kislev: 50 pts.
The amulet of Kislev is a stunningly beautiful piece of jewellery, and it is the traditional symbol of the ruler of Kislev. The Tzar or Tzarina may give it to his or her representative, giving the fortunate general an outstanding status.
The amulet of Kislev increases the Leadership score of the owner to 10. In addition, a unit led by the character carrying the amulet can re-roll any fear, panic or terror tests.

Emerald Amulet: 35 pts
Emeralds from Albion are wondrously rare and the mages of Kislev perform rituals to further enhance their mysticism.
The Emerald Amulet confers a 4+ Ward Save to the wearer.

The Talisman of Sacrifice: 100 pts
This talisman was taken home as spoils of war after a successful victory over the Chaos Dwarfs in Zharr Naggrund several centuries ago.
The Wearer is immune to all spells, including friendly spells. The user cannot cast any spells himself nor can any wizards in base to base contact.

Arcane Items

The Stone of Frost: 40 pts
The arcane item known as the Stone of Frost was first used hundreds of years ago to counter the creeping magic that plagued the people of Kislev under the plotting of Tzeentch.
You may choose to roll a D2 at the start of any player’s Magic phase. You can then remove that amount of dice from both player’s pools.

The Flying Mortar: 20 pts
It is very common for Kislevite Mages to enchant this simple household tool to give them the ability to fly.
A Kislevite Ice mage or wizard equipped with the flying mortar has the ability to fly as described in the basic rules.

Magic Banners

Banner of the old foe: 50 pts
Legend states that this was taken from the defeated Chaos army at the battle of the Gates of Kislev. It represents the undeniable hatred of all manifestations of the Chaos Gods by the Kislevites.
All Kislev units within 12” of the banner hate any units in a Chaos army (Mortals, Beasts, Daemons and Chaos Dwarfs). This includes Dogs of War units hired by Chaos.

Empire Army Book 8th Edition / Re: Kislev!
« on: December 09, 2009, 03:17:46 AM »
Kislev well I don’t know they just stopped perhaps they just didn’t make much money.

Last time I heard the Kislev allies contingent that came out just before the Storm of Chaos is still legal, I just can't remember if it was only if they were used solo or that they had to be allied to another army...

As for making money (which is all GW are interested in nowdays, god how I miss 5th and 6th eds.) I would have thought they would make money out of them. I as well as the 90% majority of all the Empire players i've ever met would buy Kislev stuff if it was still sold in stores or on their website. Even those who don't want a Kislev army would stiil buy them for their Empire stuff. I've seen Kossars and Tzar Boris' used in Middenheimer, Ostermark and Ostland armies.

What was your first game of the hammer?
1997 against Bretonnians. I used an all cavalry army of:

Valmir von Raukov
5 Knights of the Blazing Sun
5 Outriders
5 Winged Lancers
6 Pistoliers
6 Kislev Horse Archers
6 Kislev Horse Archers

Managed to get a draw

How did GW Hook you?

I just loved the setting and background behind Fantasy. I actually was already hooked on Necromunda by that stage.

Sucks that you have to join up to view them though...

Ostland is the Empire province that is most famous for its use of Ogres. So you could do an army themed around there with a black &white colour scheme. But as said Praag and Erengrad are cities in Kislev, and yes the ambassador was set in Erengrad.

Well I stopped following this thread ages ago but today I read from page 13 to 25 and this is how it ends, god damn it :eusa_wall:

On the plus side I did get a new wallpaper for my PC "Oh the huge manatee", classic :icon_mrgreen:

This is pretty off topic now, has anyone heard anything new about this new army?

No pun intended.

I'd kinda argue that Kislev are pure good. No evil background or sub faction who volunteer to fight Chaos.

Anyone know what Harry on Warseer has on this?

If it does not have Solland/Darkwald etc... I'm assuming it will have local and famed regiments like the Stir River patrol, Bogenhafen swordsmen, Old Forest road, Nuln Boder regiment like these ones in it:

@Von Kurst: I'm not quite sure what you mean. I never quoted the allied list on gunpowder weapons as it never mentions anything other than handguns and pistols. The Kislev allies list is more than the units it features, it talks about Kislevite religion, politics, history and the physical land itself just like other armies have. Tuomas Pirinens list was never official and I never quoted it. All I can think of atm is the the Warmaster list givers them cannons in War Wagons. I'm sure I've read that they have cannons I just can't remember where! I'll get back to you.

Here's the Joural list:

Do you think perhaps that this book might finally give official state colours to Solland and Darkwald and other former parts of the Empire?

Those are my thoughts exactly about the Knights and Warrior Priests. I also don't like the idea of state troopers either. In fluff the Kislevites have cannons and guns, but not Mortars, Helblasters or anything that advanced.

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Re: Chaos Dwarfs helped found the Empire!

I probably should have mentioned that the Orc invasions were led by Black Orcs who banded the greenskin tribes together making them more dangerous and hostile. It was the event itself that gave Sigmar the oppourtunity to rise.

Additionally, there is evidence that Black Orcs appeared independant of the CD, meaning they were not so much genetically engineered as they were captively bred by the dwarves.

Really? Where, if I may ask? Both the Chaos Dwarf book and the current O&G book say Black Orcs were specifically bred by the CD's. They only appeared outside the Plains of Zharr after the revolt.

Some nice ideas there, I too use Attilan Rough Riders as DOW cavalry.

@Rutgar of Wissenland: I know what you mean about Warrior Priests, Wizards, 0-1 Knightly Orders could be a rare choice perhaps but if Kislev are re-done they would have to be their own army and not just an Empire clone.

@Pistol Pete: You are dead right about the fluff and models being cool but the rules being shit

Kislev have great fluff and from what GW staff tell me it's that human armies are more popular than non-human ones. If the recession halts GW's plans perhaps they could do a Warhammer Historical and make rules but no models to go alongside. We know things like Bears and War Wagons are part of the Kislev army, they are mentioned in fluff and are part of their Warmaster army. Just throw those with the existing stuff in a WD and there you go.
