The Brush and Palette / Re: when is next conversion contest?
« on: October 08, 2008, 05:58:06 PM »

Although steveb would win by far...

Very true, it seems steveb lived with dwarfs for a while to learn his engineering skills before moving to the Empire.
cheers steveb  :::cheers:::

I can't wait as it would be my first contest on these forums.

Thanks for your imput guys!  It is always good to get an idea from fellow hobbyists on test figs, that way your army looks better in the long run.

Looks good   i like the spear paint.

Is green your final decision?
If i were you  i would take brighter colours like red  or bleached bone.

I will be using green on that paticulary unit, and bleaced bone on another, red on another, blue and black on my greatswords etc...with black being the unifying color for the army.

The Brush and Palette / My first test figure for my Nuln army BIG pics :)
« on: October 08, 2008, 04:54:14 PM »
So, this is the first time I am posting pics here.  (Sorry about the size, I usually post on my blog)

This test figure took my about a half an hour from start to finish.  (I usually paint my rank and file troops a little better than tabletop quality, and my characters I will spend a LOT of time on.)  I plan on doing black as the main colour, highlighted with GW scorched brown, then highlighted GW scorched/black/dheneb stone mixed as it looks more natural for black cloth than just greys.  The secondary color on my units will seperate each unit.  I plan on tying a few of the main secondary colors and black onto the general.

This is how I got it from a friend in a bitz trade.

Here it is all primed and ready to paint.

Here is the Spearman test model completed a half hour later. (He needs to be based though.)

I hope you like, let me know what you think of this test fig, and the time alotted.

The Count's Tavern / Re: Unusual staff helpfulness at local GW
« on: September 13, 2008, 04:06:13 AM »
As a FORMER staff member at a GW retail store in the US, I look at this thread, and both laugh, cry, and slightly in shock.  Cars are like people, there are good ones and bad ones.

The same with restaurants, I am sure we have all had both good and bad experiences at restaurants.

But, I digress, my point is that GW fired me, because I wouldn't verbally molest every customer that came into the store and hound them about what they would buy for their army next.  I have been in sales for nearly 17 years, and I know how to handle customers.  I know that GW retail stores are about building a gaming community (or so says coporate.)  But, I think it is ridiculous the way they expect to treat the older hobbyists.
I am off my soapbox now.
To sum up, (I am not saying this bragadociously at all...) about 80% of my customers left the Local GW in favor for the LGS because I was fired.  They are NOT going back to GW, almost all of them have written scathing letters to GW HQ in regards to me.  (Not because I asked them to either, I said I didn't want to make any waves or burn any bridges.)  That being said, there are good GW stores out there and bad ones, bottom line, we all may not like the way GW does business, but we love their product, and hobby.  I may be bitter at the company at times, but I still love my 40K ork army, and My Empire army!

WHFB The Electors' Forum / Lore of Beasts & Horst VanSp
« on: September 13, 2008, 03:45:53 AM »
Can a mod please move this, I meant to post it to the Electors forum.  Thanks!

Forgive me if this has been spoken of here before but there has been some debate in my LGS about Lore of Beasts and Van Horstmans Spec.

Allow me to illustrate;

Mage declares charge, and challenges his opponent, using the HVsp,...then casts the bears anger to improve his opponents stats on himself.

So, how could I get this to work?  Am I reading it correctly, or putting things in right order?  (I am not normally a "beardy" player or "cheesy", but I think it would be fun to try this one at least once.)  Can you imagine swapping stats w/ a Bloodthirster, then casting bears anger to improve those stats? :icon_eek:

I am not looking to open up a huge thread of debate here folks, just whatever the BEST interpetation is.  And what the majority of people think.  Please back up your response with fact, or direct quotes from the book to help me out.  Thanks! :biggriin:

edit: asked mod to move to proper forum

A young ventriloquist is touring the Empire and one night he's doing a show in a small town in Averland. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb Stirlander jokes when a lady from Stirland in the 4th row stands on her chair and starts shouting: "I've heard enough of your stupid Stirlander jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype us that way? Where a person lives has what to do with her worth as a human being? It's guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community and from reaching our full potential as a person. Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only Stirlanders, but women in general, and all in the name of humor!" The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the Stirland lady yells, "You stay out of this, mister! I'm talking to that frackin little creep on your knee."

A small band of 8 flagellants charges a huge unit of orc big 'uns.  As they close to their enemies, one of their group suddenly dives forward impaling himself on the enemies spears.  This naturally spurs his comrades into a deeper frenzy and they attack with such savagery that the orcs are quickly put to flight.  Wiping the greenskin boss's blood from his face, the prophet of doom approaches the martyr, "My son you have done a great dead for the people of Sigmar this day, I am here to listen to your last request." The dying flagellant replies, "Next charge, martyr the jerk who tripped me."

This one made me LOL out loud...sorry for the Monk reference.

Q: How many empire engineers from the school of engineering does it take to light a torch?

A:  Well, first you have to submit a torch lighting form, then you have to analyze the burn time of the materials in question...then....etc...

Ok, I know it was lame, but I figured we needed a good old-fashioned "lightbulb" joke.

Some jokes you may hear in the pubs throughout the Empire.  (Warning, may be offensive to non-Empire players  )
Feel free to add in some of your own!

Empire/ Dwarfs

A Dwarf and an Empire captain were drinking ale one day discussing who had the superior culture.

Over  a bugmans triple the dwarf guy says, "Well, we invented engineering”

Arching his eyebrows the captain replies, "We have the Helblaster."

The Dwarf retorts, "We dwarfs gave birth to advanced mathematics." The captian, nodding in agreement, says, "But we built the Steam Tank."

And so on and so on until the dwarf comes up with what he thinks will end the discussion.

With a flourish of finality he says, "We invented sex!"

The captain replies, "That is true, but it was the Empire who introduced it to women."

Manners in Altdorf
These four guys were walking down the street, a Marienburger, a Kislevite, a Nordlander, and a Reiklander.

A reporter comes running up and says, "Excuse me, what is your opinion about the meat shortage?"

The Marienburger says, "What's a shortage?"

The Kislevite says, "What's meat?"

The Nordlander says, "What's an opinion?"

The Reiklander, says, "Excuse me?? What's excuse me?"

Sigmar and the Robber
One night a robber broke into a home and heard a voice say, ''Sigmar is watching you!''while he rumagged through the desk. He replied, ''Who said that?!'' Once again he heard the same thing, ''Sigmar is watching you!''

The robber looked around the room only to see a parrot. He asked the parrot what its name was. The parrot replied, ''Cornelius.'' The robber said, ''What kind of a name is that?! Who names a parrot that?!'' The parrot said, ''The same person who named that attack dog behind you Sigmar!”

Why Chaos is bad…
A little boy asked his mother:
- Mummy, why are you human and I am an elf?
- Don’t even ask me that, when I remember that party..., you are lucky that you don’t bark.

What do you do if u see an Sylvanian with half his face blown off walking toward you?

Stop laughing and reload the handgun.

Short Armed Tilean
What do you call it when an Tilean has one arm shorter than the other?

A speech impediment

60th Birthday
A couple, both born the same year and month, were celebrating their 60th birthdays. During the celebration, a fairy appeared and said that because they had been so loving she would grant them each one wish.

Very excited, the wife said that since she had already visited most of the Empire, and would like to travel the world.

The fairy waved her magic wand; and the woman immediately was transported to Ulthuan

Then it was the husband's turn. He paused for a moment, then said with a sly look, "Well, I'd like to have a woman 30 years younger than me."

The fairy waved her wand, and presto, he was 90.

edit: Good call, I missed one of the changes from Greek to Dwarf.

 That is awesome!  I just started my Nuln army and if my army looks half as good as yours, I will be the pride of my LGS.  Great job!   :::cheers:::

How did you accomplish the generals face?  (It looks like a pale, foppish noble, and at the same time a rugged man I wouldn't want to face in combat!)

Helblaster either REALLY work, or REALLY suck. (In my experience anyways, I have never just had an OK game with them.)  As far as the Off topic goes...

Next thing we know someone is going to say Chuck Norris and the Hoff suck...

I can't help it if I like bear bottoms!  :engel:

well said sir tou'che

So, any chance in seeing stat lines for this bad boy?  Ogre stats, with the ability to re-roll failed morale...110 points give or take...I would certainly think twice about running away if a bear drummer was in my unit, it might as well eat me as the enemy!

Very nice!  :::cheers:::  I think he would tie in w/ my Nuln army quite well.  Love the tartan, it is amazing how many people are scared of doing tartan even though it is actually not that hard.
Good job again, can't wait to see more of your work in the future!

I remember that artwork too, it was in the 6th ed rulebook and a couple of Mordheim books I believe.  Fantastic job, looks A LOT like the artwork.  :::cheers:::

steveb - perhaps I don't want to "see" PhillyT and Calvin having those inclinations, now I have to poke out my minds eye.

I know how you feel stretch, I have about 4000 pts in boxes looking @ me and taunting me to build/paint them, on top of wanting to finish my scenery for my gaming table. (I plan to build an entire district of Nuln someday.)  I just have too much to work on along w/ taking care of my 2 year old son from time to time and working over 50 hours a week.  :eusa_wall:

The Brush and Palette / "New" plastic wizard conversion idea
« on: August 25, 2008, 03:42:19 AM »
I was talking to a friend who suggested that some of the new plastic flagellants could easily be converted into wizards for the lore of death.  Upon thinking about it, I decided you could do quite a few of the Lores using them.  Lore of Life with some spare Wood Elf bitz (as they like to have bare feet to feel the wind of Shyla upon the grass.)  Death as mentioned, especially since they have all the skull/bones and scroll bitz to use in coordination w/ platic bitz from the wizards sprue. (Using the scarred bald head would be good.)  The prophet fire head would be ideal w/ the key bitz for the Lore of Fire.  Lore of beasts would be fairly easy to do using some of the bone bitz in cordination with the "beast" skull from the old skeleton sprue.  Lore of Shadow could be done as well, just haven't thought about this one in detail yet.

So, in all, you would only need to use 5 of your Flagellants to make a bunch of wizards!  Much cheaper than the platic wizards that come 2 to the box.  (Although, I still suggest buying those to build the ones you can't out of Flagellants, and using the left over bitz from them on your "Flagellant wizards".

Welcome to the Empire - Help, Guides, and Rules / Re: Introduce Yourself
« on: August 25, 2008, 03:31:02 AM »
Hello all,

I am just re-starting my Empire army again after several indecisions w/ various WH armies.  (I even had a hard time deciding what province for the Empire to do.)  I was going to do Marienburg, but finally decided I like Nuln better.  (It is easier to paint, and I work for a company that has a deadline when to have them done by.  I wont say which one, but I will say I love my job, and it seems I work A LOT!)

I have been painting minis for nearly 17 years, I have been playing WH since late 5th ed.

check out my blog www.myempirearmy.blogspot.com (with special thanks to those here for some of my info)

The Empire Provinces / Re: The Empire Provinces Poll

Jacob Goldstein, amen to your post!    :-D
Perhaps you Marienburgers would care to join us in our great republic...  :icon_cool:

And live once more under the tyrannical rule of a product of a flawed system?  We have fought for our independence and will sustain it.  :closed-eyes: Perhaps one day we shall have a bit more territory and be a rightful country in the Old Worlde. Me thinks that democracy and a rich independent city state is better than a province that can not even keep their countess within their own borders.  (Eh Wissenland?  Emmanuelle, with all due respect, I belive you are spending too much time in Nuln, and not enough time listening to the cries of your people.)

My name is Mark, and I just re-started another Empire army. ( I did Nuln about 10 years ago and took a break for Dwarves, Orcs & Goblins, Ogres, Tomb Kings, and High Elves.)   I have been painting/collecting for close to 17 years, and playing since the begining of 6th ed. (And some Mordheim, and Warhammer Quest.)  Currently, I have about 5000 pts sitting sealed awaiting for me to assemble and paint them, for a local campaign. (Empire based   )
I have chosen to do Marienburg.  (I know, they are traitors...blah blah blah..)  I will post progress pics as I get them.  Unfortunately, I have to finish 1000pts of Orks for 40K for a staff tourney.  (Yes I work for GW. and love it!)
