Warhammer FB to Historical Wargaming Conversion?
« on: February 03, 2007, 12:42:42 AM »
Recently, a couple events conspired to give me this idea. First, I got interested in the Napoleonic Wars. Second, I realized that historical wargaming would be pretty cool. Third, I found it extremely difficult to find a good set of 25-28mm rules for that time period.

Then I realized that I'd invested quite a bit in Warhammer FB rules. I found a set of rules, published by Spirit of the Game online, that demonstrate using GW's LotR rules to play Napoleonic skirmishes. Which made me think - could you do the same thing, only using the Empire as a base? Yes, it would basically become a Nuln-ish gun line (with some tweaks, of course), but does it sound feasible?

My goal here is not to go for accuracy or recreation, so I would probably be branded a heretic and run out of the historical wargaminc community. Instead, I'm more concerned with painting/building nifty models and, oh, by the way, if I get a chance to play some battles with them, then that would be cool too. Using the WFB rules would be an easy conversion, since I already know them, I could use the scenery I've built, and it wouldn't be too terribly inaccurate (in terms of ranges, movement rules, etc). Obviously it would be only small scale battles, unless a 1 model = 50 troops scale was made, but I've always been partial to the 1-1 concept.

Anyways, thanks for your thoughts!

Why not use WAB / Warhammer Ancient Battles Rules?

WAB is easily a superior game to WFB but nobody plays it. If someone you know does, that's awesome.

Try the Warhammer Napoleon Yahoo group.  It has rules, army lists etc.

You can play company level skirmish games on a 1-1 scale by using light troops and the like.  You might even want to look at the 40K Kill team or Combat Patrol rules for Scenarios to do something in the same vein as Sharpe's Rifles

A set of rules that has just come to my attention is the Brigade level game, Grande Armée which plays entirely differently to Warhamer or anything else.

Without so much as a damn your eyes for the inconvenience
