Kung Fu Panda Theory (Spoiler for the series)
« on: April 05, 2019, 12:48:15 AM »
So I've been thinking pretty hard about the Kung Fu Panda trilogy and something just keeps bothering me and I just have to get it out, so I'll muse it here. Be warned, there will be spoilers!

So in Kung Fu Panda 3 we discover that the wuxi finger hold sends the victim to the spirit realm. Going back to Kung Fu Panda 1, that is how Po defeats Tai Lung. So Tai Lung is in the spirit realm. Oogway ascended to the spirit realm long before the final confrontation with Po and Tai Lung. Do you think Oogway was waiting for him in the spirit realm? Not to fight Tai Lung, but to help him master is internal demons.  Tai Lung learned Kung Fu from Shifu, and was very good at the physical but not much on the spiritual which may account for why he was so off balance and became covetous of the dragon warrior title and scroll.  He felt entitled to it because of Shifu and thought that mastering Kung Fu would make him that master he sought to be, not realizing it was driving him further from it.

This is just me theorizing of course, but I like to think that Oogway was waiting for him in the spirit realm and floating just out of reach of Tai Lung to teach him, in the crazy old turtle way, of mastering his self. I also like the idea that a shadow Tai Lung made of his greed, pride, and anger manifesting and fighting Tai Lung. Tai Lung thinks this is some sort of trick of Oogway but Oogway reveals to him that this is his toxic nature and that he has to defeat it by finding his inner peace and resolve his internal issues. Tai Lung just doesn't get it at first, getting angrier and making the shadow stronger and tougher to fight. Through Oogway's sage wisdom, and a few bops on the head from his shadow, he starts to understand what he needs to do and starts to try to find inner peace. I think it would make a good KFP short, comic, or short story as Tai Lung tries to come to terms with his inner demons and find that balance so he can find peace in the spirit realm.

I think you are considering more lore than ever was intended.

But its good fun to ‘theoryhammer’ if thats the right term?
