Haha, nice avatar. Really catches your attention.  :-D

Sorry to say I've never even heard of the Old Sage's forum.( though I guess now I'll check it out)

Welcome to the forum!  :smile2:
It's my EVE Online avatar prior to the improved graphics resulting in today's almost realistic look ones...

The Old Sage's Forum of Nuln has been dead for over a decade...

Around 2000 or so, most of us went over to the Warhammer Players' Society forum and then elsewhere, after the WPS became exclusive to paying subscribers. I've been on 2 now defunct DoW fora and a third now on life support. Occasionally pop over to Bugman's and the Ogre Stronghold is still going strong...

Nowadays, I hang out more on Oldhammer.org and Classic Hammer.com, to a lesser extent,  and Lead Adventure Forum.

Anyone here from the Old Sage's Forum?

Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time, though similarly not heard the old WPS board mentioned either. My name has been the same through all of them perhaps you even played a game or two with that unofficial DoW army book I wrote in the distant past.

Anyway welcome.

Im actually surprised the Dogs of War forums lasted as long as they did.

I started writing a couple of articles on one of the DoW forums about how to kitbash all the choices using then current generation plastics, however after my second article i think they officially killed DoW, so i didn't continue anymore.

Welcome old timer!

Hail citizens of the Empire! I'm a Nordland player currently based in London. I'm more of a painter/collector but doing some playing here and there as well. These forums helped inspire me to start an Empire army and it has been a blast so far (cannon pun intended). Hoping to read some good lists and see more inspiring painting and converting.

Praise Manann!

Hi everyone.  I am far from new here but don't think I ever did the introduction thing.
Been in the hobby for decades but its only really been the last six or seven years that I have made a real effort to get my collections painted.  I don't play as often as I would like so for some time now I have just been building painting and reading.
I live in south Essex England and am blessed with having a choice of gaming clubs within a small radius of home. No point boring you with the other systems I dabble with so I will stick to Empire related stuff.
Used to play fantasy quite a lot in the early 90's and built up the majority of my armies back then. So my collection is best described as old skool. And generally weighs a ton.
I drifted away for a few years but always tried to keep my finger on the pulse in case I could ever get to play.
Roll forward a bit and just as I was preparing to dive in again rumours of the end times were surfacing. I decided to wait for the dust to settle and simply sort through my collection and try to make sense of what I purchased all those years ago.
I was very sceptical about the prospect of aos so went in with the kings of war kickstarter for their second edition. Reading that rules set felt like fantasy I remembered so I started to plan how I can slot my models into a kingdom of man army.
Then aos dropped proper and I found myself stuck on a fence not knowing which side to jump. The idea of trying to play both made my brain hurt so I thought I would focus first on aos and see how that goes.
So as it stands I have some models on square bases and some on rounds. And I managed to get 3000pts worth painted in December last year. From that work rate you can assume I am not a great painter and you would be right. But the overall look from across the table is more than satisfactory.  Once I work out how to post photos I will share my army in the appropriate pages. I still have lots to do and more that I would like to buy but I think I am now close to the point where I can start sorting movement trays and give kow a try.
For now I am trying to snatch games of aos where I can. Played three so far so still a novice in that respect.
Looking forward to getting involved in this forum finally.
Thanks for having me.

Michael

Welcome (?) to the community. I think it's all about balance. I'm not too hot about AoS, but there are things there that I like, rules and model wise (fluff is bad, IMO). On the other hand WFB is dead and it's not coming back, at least officialy. Then again, you can still play it with other outcasts, like many here do. There's also The 9th Age, Kings of War... It's not THAT bad. ;)

Welcome!

Looking forward to the photos. Myself, I switched from Photobucket to imgur, and it's better in every respect.

Glad to see I'm not the only one going at a snails pace in the great return to the hobby. The fact you got 3000 points  done still leaves me at the back end of racetrack. Welcome aboard, and I look forward to your AoS adventure.  KOW has been getting a good rap too but not sure if I can handle another game system.  AoS is on the horizon and I've been getting up to speed on the fluff as about all I have time for is reading a few pages here and there.

Hello I m new to this, first forum I ve used

First bought a 2nd hand copy of a white WFB rulebook in '85 and got the red box set next. I ve been out of the hobby for 15 yrs but have become disabled and now have time to burn. Played right up to the edition with lizardmen and empire or knights army in box. In the past I ve owned and fought with lizardmen skink slann - wood elves - high elves - but no others despite painting many units
S0 i m well out of date but have been impressed by the passion of the members for an army that frankly i did nt rate

Also like 40k (sorry) models hate the game and enjoy reading RPG and wargame rule books and I can paint a bit

Finally read some of the 40k forum. As we understood it 40k is a skirmish game made larger whereas WFB is a regimental wargame if you don t understand this difference you cannot compare the two

THank you for bothering to read

Welcome to the club dev. We have both WFB and 40K players here and it's nice to see more people joining/remaining in the hobby, even when GW decided to axe it. Hope you'll like it here. :smile2:

So it has been years since I last posted here and I have to say, I feel some nostalgia swelling up from deep within my soul.

I miss playing some good games and interacting with all the old crew of The Solland Effort and the Wedding in Wissenland threads.

For those newer members who have yet to read them, give it a go as they are fantastic reads.

I'd like to shout out to everyone who knows me, Derek Contyre, and I would like to finish by saying I am resurrecting my hobby interests.

So far I have my 9000pts of Empire (under the old 8th ed rules), a Kingdom of Britannia Dystopian Wars fleet, and some Mantic Warpath GCPS that can double as 40k Imperial Guard.

I hope to chat to you all soon!

And FYI, I have managed to alter enough of the names in my background fluff so I can put them in my novels!

Anastasia Contyre will get her own book!

cheers everyone for being great inspiration!

I'll be sure to get all of the ones who participated into the preface...

Hey there. \o

I'm Dietrich; I'm a long time WHFB and 40,000 fan (alongside the wide variety of Specialist Games, past and present) and I've dabbled in a number of armies over the fifteen years I've taken part in the hobby. I'm currently researching the Mordheim rules with an angle to develop my own rules set interspersed with Dungeon's & Dragons mechanics, set in the aftermath of the Storm of Chaos.

Apart from, I'm playing around with the selection of Empire parts I have and keeping an eye out for inspiration. It's great to be here! \o
