Rumble on Phoenix II
« on: June 13, 2010, 02:42:15 PM »
Yesterday, Mathi and me got together to duke it out on the battlefields of the 41st millennium!
My post-exterminatus Tyranids were being assailed by the mechanized fury of Warboss Kelly's 'Erus.
Lots of dangerous AP3 shooting, although BS 2 is not making it very efficient. Kelly sported a spearhead of a single battlewagon.
The Tyranid side sported a total of 8 Monstrous creatures! A spearhead of Carnifices made the bulk of the force while Rippergaunts (Termagaunts), Tyrants, Tervigon and Trygon supported.

The battle was going to be fought from short end to short end.  The objective was to put scoring units (troops, spearhead formations) in the enemy deployment zone.

This meant a lot of travelling distance for my slow, slow carnifices, so according to the scenario rules, I placed the whole spearhead in advance. The Carnifices f Phoenix II were being roused out of their hibernation to repel and devour the attackers!
Mathi deployed his artillery and his Tankbustas.

Most of the well kitted out Carnifices took cover behind a large hill, which didn't help them much anyway, since the only wound caused by the first salvo wasn't saved by cover.

After the initial orcish barrage, the carnifices jumped out of cover and rushed ahead at the enemy.

Because of the spearhead rules they were allowed to run and fire one weapon, which meant the fexes were closing in quickly and laying down a good barrage of fire. Vonom cannons and devourers spitting death, all but two of the Tankbustas went down in spite of their heavy entrenchment.

Meanwhile, the reinforcements started to arrive. The outflanking tervigon took up position and began spitting out more creatures while Kelly's tanks were racing to intercept. Kelly himself refused to show up, though.

At this point, 4 carnifices, 1 group of Termagants and the Tervigon were all scoring for the Tyranids while the orks had yet to cross the middle of the table. Kelly himself kept to the pool at the side of the table.

The Trygon arrived and zapped the boomwagon from behind, using the static electricity generated by it's armour plates, while the rest of the tyranids laid down a deadly barrage of fire and assaults on the rest of the army. At this point, the remaining battlewagon decided to go as fast as possible BACKWARDS! The orks ran, not having killed a single model. Cowards!

The Tyranids stand victorious! Mathi called it a warm-up and we proceeded to play another game. (To follow)

It was some quite frustrating reserve rolls to be had, I can tell you!

Also, taught me that when facing an army made of mostly spearheads, coming with a lone tank as your single spearhead, and then forgetting to use any of the Spearhead benefits given to it, as for example the fact that as an Armoured Spearhead it had the benefit of a 5+ invurnerable save, could fire and move, fire more weapons than usual etc, is asking to get your arse handed to you. Hence I felt it was better of my battlewagon proved that orks knows the better part of valour aswell and run fer it!  :icon_mrgreen:

That way, orks will not loose since we can come back for anuva go, zee!  :icon_razz:
Oh, and remember GW made it personal, not you!
