Cyborg Demon Bust
« on: April 13, 2010, 07:13:53 PM »
Hello folks, just wanted to share my first sci-fi piece. I have done a lot of fantasy busts, but recently i got commissioned to do a demon bust. That demon turned into a cyber demon type being. Anyway, here's the pics so far...

comments and crits appreciated.

This bust is only about 10 hours i n at this stage so the face will be a while yet, but i will post more photos in a week or so when there is more to show. The back is very close to being done now, the other shoulder muscle has been made from guitar wire and i am now onto the horns....

Really good, I wish I could sculpt like that. I clicked on your coolminiornot link and I suggest everybody else does the same, theres some really fantastic stuff there. I think my favourites are the wizard and The Darkhand. I also really want a nurgle water jar!  :::cheers:::

Thanks for the kind words folks. Some more progress on the bust but no more photos until next week when the front will be well underway....

Irresistible Force - glad you liked the gallery, the water jar was a private commission, I'd like to do a resin container capable of holding a standard size jam jar with some cool design sculpted on so maybe one day..

Here are some more photos to show the lower front and the roughed in face. One side of the face is actually complete now so more photos tomorrow of that. Imagine Aliens, predator meets planet of the apes and a big tentacle tongue. Should give a rough idea of what to expect. It is by no means final however but hopefully the client will like it and approve it because I like it myself.  We shall see. If you like it to all votes for or against would be welcomed, maybe do a poll or something??

Okay, this is the last WIP photo set before the completed bust, so any opinions at this stage would be good, especially if the face looks suitably cool and fits in with the rest of the design. There is a jelly baby in there for scale comparison....

from a mechanical point of view what material is the white spine supposed to be in the finished model?  if a plastic sheath, or insulator over a harder material it looks great if something more rigid it should have some form of articulation modeled into it.  Great modelling so far just looking out for the details that some nerd will rage about.  You have a great sensitivity with your tools and enough looseness of style to let your sculpting flow yet not so loose that you are sloppy.  Take care that you keep that, it's all to easy to tighten up and get fussy in the little details while missing the greater whole of a sculpture.  Keep it going.

Irrestible force - thanks for the compliment, but i am very much a beginner and there are A LOT of people out there who can sculpt far better than me! Hopefully I can do better with each piece though, its my aim to see definate progress by the end of each year.

der Hurenwiebel - the spine was not finished when photographed, so there are divisions in there, but yes i know what you mean about people who rage about small things. Thanks for the encouragement, I will make sure I always improve in some way with each piece, I am currently trying to note down tips for myself about what mistakes were made during each piece.

No jelly babies here this time as I ate them all yesterday, anyway.....

Here is WIP 4 - the final photo for this WIP before all the finished shots. It shows the other side of the face. There is a little more work to do on it, the left canine and tidy up the bottom lip, bits of smoothing, final checkover and then its ready to be shipped on out and uploaded to my cmon gallery. And oh yeah, have to bake it lol.

Here are the semi final photos of the cyborg daemon!! The tongue in the picture will be reduced down a bit, that is being done, just waiting for the putty to dry. There is a normal tongue option for him as well that sits inside the mouth fully. The one in the picture will be scrapped. The bust is about 10cm high.

No more than 10 cm?  :-o With that level of detail, I'd have thought it at least the triple of that! Hat's off and knees bend! This is amaaazing!  :::cheers:::

Guitar strings?
I agree with the inhumane treatment of animals.

Thanks people!!

Yes the wires are guitar strings, one of my workmates is in a band and she kindly gives me her busted ones. Regarding the size, it is a fairly weighty bust, 10cm is around about as tall as I want to get with a bust to be honest, it is big enough to get plenty of detail on and offers good value for money to anyone who purchases them, you get your moneys worth of resin!!

Finally I have the last batch of WIP Shots. The first photo shows the tongue options of which there are four now. I am not sure if the client (daemonscape)  is going to offer a choice or include them all with the bust. The photos below show some new adjustments, see what you think. The horned ridge is up for debate, the sculpt shows two options, the original horns/bone bit but the new one I like much better, it is just a tentacle type fatty area to break up the texture and allows some patterns to be painted. So you can do a side by side comparison. I like this much better myself, maybe I have been watching too much star wars/farscape babylon 5 but tentacles and aliens go to together perfectly. Well hope these photos meet with approval, they are not good as there was no outside ambient light, taken late yesterday evening. I would have posted them yesterday but I fell asleep on the sofa with my little dog curled up in my arms :)

Thanks for looking!

Actually that Nurgle Water Jar reminds me of a sci-fi movie that Jack Valance was in.  Maybe just my imagination going sidewards on this one but absolutely great work - I am envious of your skill!
