Beastmen advice
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:58:33 PM »
Im diving into my Beastmen army now which so far has 22 Ungors including 2 full commands and 10 Khornegors. Is it true that Ungors can be full units without being mixed with Gors? How should I spilt them up 2 units of 11 or buy more and do 2 larger units? I dont ever plan on playing them I just want to paint them so I dont care if they are a poor tactical choice so long as they are a legal list ( I have a thing about legal lists). Still need a hero, advice?

Well this is the Empire forum.

You might want to try  the Herdstone forum?
http://z8.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index.php?

I have beastmen as well, don't play them much.
But yes, ungors can be their own unit, they can also be a skirmishing archer unit too. I wouldn't worry about if they are equipped with bows, spears, or hand weapons. So you can use them as whatever.

All the beastmen heroes are all decent. Get the one you think looks coolest.

what game are you playing? 8th edition? Age of Sigmar? 9th age?

In 6th they were a mixed unit. In 7th (and 8th) they were a single unit without gors.

I have 11 ungors, 15 gors, 15 khornegors, 5 centigors, 3 minotaurs.
I bought them when it was possible to have a mixed army, and I wanted them to go with my khorne themed chaos warriors. All axes because its khorne's weapon!

Thanks for the info I wasn't aware the Beastmen had their own forum.  I play 8th-ish but I only have the 6th edition Beastmen book. I only play Empire, I just bought the Ungors as a painting distraction and I won the Khornegors in a tournament.

The 6th edition book is the up to date one for 8th. EDIT: THIS IS INCORRECT

Actually all the armies have their own forum. The most active and friendly ones are this one and Bugmans Brewey. The high elf one is active but not so friendly.

The Heardstone has a section on the best ways to collect a beastman force. They probably have a list of some alternate models from other manufactuerers too.

A lot of members here have said that the beastman thread in the counts tavern is better than large portions of the herdstone. Have a quick search for it - heaps in there from our resident beastmen players.

Also, peacemaker - no. The 7th ed book is the one usable for 8th edition.
The only race that still had a 6th edition book for 8th was bretonnians. Skaven and beastmen both use their 7th ed books.

Ungors are usable and useful.

The raiders are particularly good as you can run them in small units of 5 skirmishers, super useful for harassing flanks, sacrificing to save other units and you can also ambush them if you run more than one so that they can start off the board which can potentially mean they can come on behind war machines etc. Nice place to hide shamans if you want to avoid them getting shot or combat killed. I want to say they are only 30pts for 5 which means multiple units are an option.

The ranked up ungors are not so useful but they are very cheap and if you run them 5 wide and very deep they can hang around quite a while on stubborn. I like to keep them in general's LD range just to one side of a gor horde to anchor that flank. Not easy to remove. And with primal fury they can occasionally put out a bit of damage, though you really don't want to count on it.
