Steam Charriot
« on: March 16, 2007, 12:02:58 PM »
This sunday our gaming group has decided to have some varriation of charriot races.  not wanting to leave the empire unrepresented, (i could borrow one) i decided to start a scratch build last night.  This will also offer me a few days rest from the large warhammer 40k projects i have going.

So idea is that is 1 big drive wheel, 2 smaller ones, decent to small size wood frame.  Kinda has a feeling of a scaven doom wheel i guess.
Anyway idea is to only use material i have or can eaily get, (so no special bitz order)

without farther a due.  Heres the wheel on plasticard chariot base, & 2 struts.

This pic is about 2.5 hours into the project, but i would guess its about 33% done.
I havent decided if i want the wheel in the back pushing, or in the front grinding into troops.  IDEAS?

Bravo!!!

Im glad to see someone is using styrene other than me! I know that sometimes it is difficult to get exactly what you need, but they do sell styrene and butyrate tubes in many sizes. Sure PVC is cheap and available but its difficult to join with other materials. Im not sure if you are using super glue or what. Please do yourself a favor and try a bottle of solvent it works wonders on styrene! What did you use for the core of the large wheel, cant seem to make it out. Good luck on the rest of the project and feel free to ask me anything you want to know about styrene (or anything else I might be able to help with).

Yes i love working with plasticard, i get to do alot more of it with 40k then fantasy though.

What do you mean by solvent?  Ive made a handfull of plasticard projects for my 40k army (shameless plug http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58676) and super glue has always worked fine for me (although it takes a fair amount of it)

The wheel is sheet styrene on both sides (the brown/marroon stuff) and a band of thiner sheet stryrene about the outside.
The center core is PVC im afraid to say, but its simply because i had it lying about and didnt wanna go out to the store to get larger size plasticard tubing.
The spokes are plasticard tubing.

That is a great beginning, by the way! I am looking forward to seeing hte complete thing.

totally awesome dude... although i was thinking backwards. with the large wheel as the front - in my mind, it was a penny-farthing doped on steam-power steroids with an engineer and his lackey fueling the beast...

It's awesome. But I think the front part of charriot is too petty. You should add something powerful equal to the large wheel. And I want to know where your crew stand.
