500 points of Tallarn
« on: April 06, 2012, 02:46:22 PM »
Well, 500 points isn't much, but it's all I'll have ready for the Eurobash.
And... I don't know the rules. And I don't have the book ( although I have had a quick glance through it).

So, this is what I've come up with so far. Based on the models I'll have at the end op April:

HQ
A lascannon and 2 snipers

Company command
2 plasma guns

Squad 1
Plasma gun and auto cannon

Squad 2
Plasma gun and auto cannon

Veteran squad
Chimera

Sentinal
Smoke, netting and lascannon

There's something cool about my Taliban dudes carting plasma guns around...

Is this a sort of okay list?

Well its a start and I don't see anything wrong with it.  Im sure some of the mathhammer nerds will tell how much better going all autcannons is and plasma guns are no good compared to melta guns but I think plasma guns are super rad.

With BS 3, I thought it prudent to take multi-shot S7 weapons over single shot S8 weapons.
And I got hold of a batch of plasmaguns to stick on my taliban models and havn't had the same luck with meltaguns.
Eventually I will give the veterans meltaguns though...

By the way, oh how I long to stick Chewbacca and a couple of ewoks in that sentinel...

One suggestion - if that's what you have available in minis, I'd take the Plasma dudes from your squads and give em to the vets. The regular grunts can still play with the autocannons, and the vets will make better use of those plasma guns with their BS4.

Does anyone know how to paint fire/battle damage and rust on a sentinal?

Battle damage: what works well is take a drill and drill some shallow holes/dents. You can paint those in silver and/or rust since the paint would have been blasted off.

Rust: take a bit of sponge/foam (the stuff in the backs of blisters works well) and lightly(!) stiple some brown paint on the places were you want rust. Then repeat with blazing orange over that. finally, you can highlight some edges in the area in bare boltgun metal. Looks quite good I think. I've only used this technique on weapons so far, but I don't see why it shouldn't work on a sentinel.

For rust you could also try paint a dark brown base for the rusted part and then drybrush Vermin Brown (or Scrag Brown as it now called) and finally drybrush orange on top (or layer both colours if you have the patience). Alternatively you could heavily water down Vermin Brown/Scrag Brown and use it as a wash to the recesses and then slightly stipple on some orange.

For battle damage I would suggest a paint chipping effect. Paint some hard edges on your sentinels armour with your brightest highlight color and let the paint "flow" unevenly to both sides of the edge. Then paint the inside of the highlight black leaving a little of the previus color showing. Then follow up with a metallic color highlight within the black layer.

I haven't tried these myself yet but I will on my next models.

You brush and pallette guys scare me ;)

I've attempted something in between both your ideas (stolen from both).

Basically I painted a gash on the sentinal in chainmail.
Then I washed it with black.
Then I used a sponge to dabble some brown on to it.
Then in the middle I re-painted a bit of the chainmail.

Tonight it gets dipped... tomorrow it gets un-shined....
And then voila... who knows what will appear!
