Topic: GW plastic glue

Has anyone else been having issues with GW's plastic glue? i am finding that its not staying glued, at first i thought the forge world stuff hadnt had the mold release come off so scrubbed it all in soapy water again but it is not staying stuck it keeps falling apart and the same with my recent plastic construction with this glue. It seems if i breath on them the fall apart so i am having to use a shed load of super glue to keep them together.

Plastic glue takes a while to harden. Superglue on the other hand shoud just need a tiny dot and then its stock there after a couple of secs

Plastic glue does not stick forgeworld resin together if thats what your saying you need super glue, if its not working on plastics then it is faulty and return and get your money back.

Get some of the below for plastic ( it has a great thin tube for exact application ) and some decent super glue, (not from GW)

cheers for the heads up i was in the mistaken impression that the plastic glue would would be ok on resin, the revel plstic glue is good but found the tube would always gunk up and i have to try and fiddle to un block it or hoof it in the bin in a rage

Lol, yes the revell glue, must have the top put back on immediately after gluing, i use a thin pin. However it is good stuff. Good luck with the resin.

I am currently using some Tamiya extra thin clear in a bottle, with the smallest brush ever. It works very well indeed.

I prefer Zap-A-Gap. It bonds pretty quickly, and is VERY strong.

On that note though, there was a batch of GW plastic glue that was crap. Right before they switched from the regular glue to the new Thin and Thick ones, it appears as if a batch crystallized before it fully dried, thus not gluing.

My poor skeleton warriors found that out. I'd assembled 100 skeletons, and then when I tried to pick them up, they just crumpled like dry bones.

I now use Army Painter plastic glue, and will never look back.

FYI, plastic cement works by melting the two pieces of plastic together with solvents. The tube stuff has some melted plastic material already in it (which is why it's thick and will dry solid when it dries.) You can also buy jars of just the solvent, which is a liquid that you apply with a brush and will fully evaporate leaving only the original plastic material, fused together. The tube stuff may will have a certain ability to hold other materials together with the plastic material that is left behind, but it won't be a good bond. Only use plastic cement or solvent on plastic miniatures & models.

Super glue (CA glue) actually bonds to the materials being glued together. This is a better option for resin, metal, etc. Plastic cement is still a better option for plastic miniatures.

Yeah the glue seems to be crystallising but it is a recent purchase So looks as if there is still a bad batch out there

I too was a victim to the bad batch.  I used it on some mounted wights and after a while I checked on them and poof they fell apart.  I never used plastic glue before so I thought I would take the plunge but turns out I chose the wrong time (and brand) to do so.  I bought the glue about 6 months ago, but it might have been older stock, not sure.

That's why it being a metal applicator nozzle is so great. Simply use a lighter down the length of the nozzle and you'll likely get a "puff" as the blockage burns away and trapped air gets out. Wait half a minute or something before trying to use the glue again, otherwise it will come out boiling.

Besides lighting the BBQ and candles it's the main reason I've got a lighter at all!
