Can't you just post it?  :-P

Umm... Yes.

Here's how I did it:

I firstly used the WH 40k terrain set for "Cities of Death". If my memory serves me right I used the "Basilica Administratum"-box to be exact:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120199005&orignav=10.

For the main body (the floor and walls) I used the "basic building sprue". The walls are the balcony of the sprue (marked A on the following photo) with the triangles/pyramids cut out and replaced by the gargoyles (marked C).
The floor is made up of the floor panels turned upside down (marked B), since the underside of the floor is just basic squared tile. I used all of the balcony bits (A) and floor (B) and sawed and filed the bits down until the floor piece was 25mm x 55mm size and the side walls fit the floor.
Note, that this leaves the backside of the Altar open not including the "poles". The arched backwall is constructed separately.

Here's the photo of the sprue: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/CoD_sprue.jpg

For the "arched backwall" I used parts from the Basilica Administratum sprue:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/CoD_sprue2.jpg

For the shape I used two of the "corner pieces" (marked A), one on each side of the balcony. I filed away the electric lamps from the bottom. Next I carefully filed the arch itself a little bit at a time from both sides to make the final backwall the same width as the rest of the altar.

Next I cut out just the inside of the wall tile (marked B) including the skeleton on the bottom and glued it to the combined corner pieces (part A).

Finally I glued the entire "backwall" to the altar.

The skull shields with the comet (tail lights I call them ;)) are from the new WHFB building set as are the hammer wielding gargoyles on the front of the altar.

For the altar itself I used the treasure chest from the Mordheim equipment sprue
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99391199001&orignav=9
with a foamcore top (the chest is hollow otherwise) and the baby griffon from the General of the Empire set.

The Banners and poles are from the WH 40k Throne of Judgement
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=9947010805104&orignav=10
and
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=9947010805107&orignav=10.

For the axles I used the original War Altar Axles (x2)
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=9947020204304&orignav=13
and for the wheels I used four "twelve spoked wheels" from the old Helblaster set.

The horses are Brettonnian horses and the yoke and haft are from the classic War Wagon
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=9911020204100&orignav=301116
with another Griffon (from the WHFB buildings) glued on top of the yoke.

The Arch Lectors is just a non converted Warrior Priest and the base is made of foamcore.

Hope this helps.

Great stuff, SirUlrich. I absolutely adore your greatswords, a perfect conversion. I was tempted to go for the hoods myself, and the Crusader lurks among mine aswell. :)

Creepy, awesome and fantastic.  Being new to the empire, don't know much about the Cult of Morr except from the rule books.  I think you have captured a religious cult theme beautifully.  Well done and inspiring!

Hi guys!

After a long absence from painting more I have finally managed to enlarge my army so I thought I'd share pictures - this is a blog after all! As always all comments are welcome. I am most grateful for tips&tricks on how to improve these guys further. But, naturally, I won't mind getting compliments either  :engel:

And if there are newer members, that haven't seen this blog before, reading this then by all means comment on the minis from the first page too!

So here goes: After seeing Jeff Wilson's wonderful Captasus conversion on the GW website I just had to give it a go. This one is pretty much a copy from Jeff's, but I added a few minor touches to make him stand well with my Cult of Morr:

The stars have been ominous and ill lately for my poor Army, so the general decided to turn to The College of Heavens in Altdorf for support and help. Marcus the Mystic answered the call:

An army is built with the strong arms of brave men, but a general would be stupid to reject a few machines of war to support his battleline:

And finally my old (badly painted) Pistoliers received a repaint when they were finally joined by their new champion, Outrider Hanz Koppler:

I hope you like them. Please comment!

SirU,

Excellent work as always ! Truly a worthy addition to your forces. I would truly enjoy these in my own army.

Now the hair-splitting begins. Read on at your own peril.

Critique :

Captasus : I hate the smooth hair on this head, IMHO, it spoils an otherwise great bit. Also, the black lines on the wings are a bit too straight for my liking.

Pistoliers : the 2nd pistolier from right's horses spots are a bit too perfectly spaced, and thus unnatural. Also, the yellow horses are a tad too bright.

Ulrich, you have a stunning style. Love all those new minis just like I loved the ones you did before. I'd single something out but you have such high quality running through... I'm not sure there is one thing I can say I like better above the others.

Thanks for the negative feedback. Seriously! And yes, reading at my own peril can get quite perilous...  :engel:

I'd like to make a few return remarks / pointers on your feedback.

Captasus: The smooth hair. Yes. Personally I hate it too. And yes, it does spoil an otherwise great bit. I thought this through for quite a long time and in the end I decided that the face, scar and moustache combination was more important than flowing hair and went with it. I tried "masking" or disguising the flatness of the hair by hand painting contrasting lines with the lightest and darkest tones of the hair color. Looking back at it now, I don't know why it doesn't show in the pictures. The hair is still flat, but at least it looks a little more "lifelike" when you laak at the mini up close.

As to the black lines in the wings, I'd really appreciate if you elaborated your comment a little. The wings were a pain in the butt to paint. I just couldn't get them look right. After four re-paints I'm still not happy with them but at the moment that's the best I could conjure up. To my eye there is something wrong with the wings but I just can't see it. Please - I need more details to make them look right!

Pistoliers: Agreed on both points. I'll fix the spots when I can. As to the yellow being too bright it's my camera doing tricks again. They don't look that yellow in reality. BUT they are too yellow indeed. It's old school (8 years back). I only repainted the riders not the mounts. I will do it when my currently assembled and undercoated minis are done, but that could take some time... And thanks for the comments!

But Soth my friend, a single gripe I do have: I'm a little surprised you didn't say a word about the lance. After all it was your Black Knights thread where I shamelessly stole the entire idea from. Granted, it was somene else on the thread who suggested it, but still...  :closed-eyes:

Thanks to you Siberius and steveb for your replies as well! I sincerely appreciate all feedback, so keep it coming!

I hope my reply has motivated more of you to give constructive critisism too. I try by best to improve all the time!

Thank you for reading,

-SirU

Fair enough. Did you try greenstuffing hair on top ?

My problem is that it does not look natural enough. The feathers are thus aligned by coincidence, since you are capturing a 'freeze frame' of the model. I would make the black lines move in and out just a tiny bit with every feather. I am talking specifically about the line dividing the white part.

Pistoliers: Agreed on both points. I'll fix the spots when I can. As to the yellow being too bright it's my camera doing tricks again. They don't look that yellow in reality. No further comment, your honour...

I have nothing to say about it, only that I envy your steady hand in executing this. I did not dare do this on my knights. Know your limits and such. It did not register because it looks perfect... with an artist of your quality, one tends to see the few flaws better than the perfect whole...

To illustrate this, take a black marker, put a big dot in the middle of a sheet of paper. Show it to people and ask them what they see. 99 % will say : a dot, big dot, black dot, spot, etc.... If one of them says : a big white rectangle with a black dot; you have an exceptional person or another forum member...

Oh, and I am honoured to be called your friend, friend.

Thanks again.

The wings, the wings. You know what - that might just be it. I'm giving it a go! It's repainting time... Fifth time's the charm, right?  :icon_biggrin: Thanks for the tip.

And then the hair question. No. My greenstuff skills just won't help with the dude's hair. I'm able to make big blobs like the bagpipe for the Spearmen command group, but nothing more detailed than that, so...

Oh, and I am honoured to be called your friend, friend.

Why thank you. I'd like to say something nice again (in return), but lets not make this a friendly shoot-out competition of compliments between friends, ok friend?  :engel:

Besides, on W-E we are all friends. At least that's what I'd like to think!
