Steamtank conversion project....building Leonardo's tank
« on: February 11, 2008, 05:28:02 PM »
So, last week I was tinkering with the idea of imitating one of Leonardo da Vinci's inventions, the 360 degrees tank.  I already have both the old and the new steam tank from GW but I wanted something more creative and less steampunk.  Some of you might not like the idea at all, but here I present to you what I have been up to these last days.  Enjoy!

This is the concept sketch by Leonardo himself

Than a computer generated version of it

and finally.... the card and aluminium sheet version of I buildt myself

(the base)

(all together after putting on some armour and weapons)

It is still not ready yet because I have been somewhat occupied lately, but I hope to show you the end result soon enough.  As usual comments and critique are welcome.

When I read the title, I thought you gonna show us a stank based on the da Miragliano artwork that used to be (still is? ) o n GW's site. But that's such a better idea.  :eusa_clap:
Just a critique:
I think the top is to high, but that's only my opinion.

It looks like a lampshade.

Needs to be lower, it was probably thought to be in a gradient cannonballs would slide off (like old fortifications were built slightly sloped and or straight depending on how you wanted to protect against cannons) and with such a steep top cannonballs would go straight through instead of over...

Yes it seems you are right.I did not notice it at first myself because in real life it doesn't look so high. I think I will have to cut a smaller circle and do a new top from that.  This time though I will cut it all from aluminium sheets because they are better for painting on

Ok I have listened to the critiques and I have lowered the roof.I still need to put on some extra armour on it and also put on the hatch at the top. Please tell me what you think.

Could do with some more cannons.....
