Once had a group of Spearmen from the 34th Middenland Detachment who bravely charged a goup of sixteen orc archers. For four whole turns these men held out, fighting to one man, when he was finally relieved by the occupied parent unit of Halberdiers. It was a bloody mess, but he survived with honours, killing his fair share of 2 boyz over the course of the combat. Talk about luck  :biggriin:

Setting the scene:

Dark Elf lord failed his upside down ward save vs. a cannon ball and was turned into mist. The second cannon ball took 3 wounds off the Manticore. The unit of 10 Crossbowmen defending the cannon took 1 more wound off the Manticore. The Fell beast went frenzy and charged the Crossbow men just inside the stand and shoot range, the crossbowmen could not ready there bolts in time the tide of battle was looking grim. It all came down to the Crossbowman's detachment of 5 swordsmen who counter charged. Striking first they need to cause one wound on the beast.

As his fellow unit members hacked wildly at the beast Swordsman Pol Helmet took his time and waited for the right moment driving his sword through the eye of the beast.

Swordsman Helmet survived the bloody encounter and was reward the right to skin the beast and donate the treasure to the Cult of Sigmar and promoted to the front rank of the Reikland 3rd Swordsman unit.

Who knows, Helmet may reach the dizzying height of champion of the 3rd before the month is out.

I made the comment last year that my buddy's halberdier champion should be promoted to greatsword......

I charge in with my wardancers on one side and my wild riders on the other (wardancers in front wild riders in the rear..) and my wardancer noble challenged ( hoping against hope that his bsb would except). The challenge was excepted by his halberd champion who took zero wounds from my 5 Stregnth 5 atacks (missed all but one and rolled a one for the wound) and subsequently chopped my poor 2 wound noble to pieces. Though the halberdiers lost the combat by 3(I rolled really bad this round) their sargeant managed to keep his troops in line. In his next turn he charged my wild riders in the rear with 20 militia and ended up winning the combat and making both of my units flee and my wardancers were caught and run down while my wild riders got away (his halberd champion managed to kill another wardancer in the second round of combat for a total of 1 character and 1 wardancer and later on 1 wild rider when they tried a second go at the halberdiers. His champion killed more models that any other close combat character in eithre of our armies)

And the hat's not really THAT silly.  The garrison cap Uncle Sam issued to me in the army was far sillier than this beret thing.   :closed-eyes:

Gah the old rectangle ones is what your talking about right? had to put 2 fingers on the bridge of your nose to see if its sitting right for inspection.

having never played empire I dont have any.  However I can recount a few instnaces where my elves rocked (mind you this was 6th ed, before the current book) Playing against skaven and DEs.  I'll post them later as they were quite fantastic.
