OK haven't updated in a while but lately I have been busy (school and whatnot) so here is the latest 6 swordsmen i have completed. 4 more RnF and the command and i got another finished one. I know i haven't done anything with the bases but without a completed army list and missing the 40mm unit fillers i can't make that much progress without them. so basing is likely to happen in the future. but right now i am content to complete units and prepare for the work ahead!

swordsmen

and the army shot of the completed models

C and C welcome! more updates to come!

Looking very good so far. Especially like the head swap on the greatsword. I had used a knight's head on mine but im considering swapping it now, two days after painting it and all... One word of advice is that models always look much better when based so I can see these looking even better soon. Incidently I find that basing models as I finish them helps me get it sone as I can never face a lot of them in one go.

Back from a long Hiatus! (busy pumping out some disciples of Khorne for a tournament and the ol' lads got forgotten *tear*. BUT! they finally got some love this past weekend and i made some progress.

Light Wizard:

and the banner and musician for the Swordsmen unit:

and the next project:

They are a different color because I ran out of chestnut ink. and finding chestnut nowadays is harder than finding gold. the citadel washes just don;t do the job proper as the inks used to...*tear*

but anyways! the army is looking good and I plan to start with the basing in about a week or so.

C and C welcome!

I like your painting, and love the colours and patterns, but to me it seems that your paint is a bit to thick. try watering it down before painting. Im mostly thinking on the wizards white robes..

apart from that i really like your work. great job!

Thanks for the compliments!

I have noticed the same problem with the thick paint but have been unable to alleviate it much. i find that i am always straddling the line between to thick and too watery. i began mixing paints for a death wizard i have done but find the same problem recurring. I think it might be the paints I use (they are getting on in age) combined with my painting style. I heard Vallejo paints work better for mixing because of the dropper system. any thoughts?

They do (Vallejo paints), but not so much that that makes them an obvious choice over other paints.  It helps, but it's not too hard to take an empty pallet and dip your brush in the paint pot and let it drip off the brush onto the pallet.  Now, I prefer Vallejo a whole lot over GW paint because I find it is, straight out of the container, thinner and easier to spread, it dries faster (which can or cannot be a good thing, but I prefer it), I like the dripper bottles better, and I prefer the colors overall.

Now, I must say, I love your style (which seems simplistic really), of a kinda dirt look to the uniforms, and figures in general.  And really, the paint only seems noticably thicker on the banners, which is a common thing for someone who hasn't done a lot of free hand painting (my first banners were the exact same way).  All you need to do now is base them! :smile2:

Great looking work thus far.  You are very brave to chose yellow as one of your main colors (mine seems to always turn out horrid).  How did you get your yellow so clean?

Thanks for the positive feedback!

How did you get your yellow so clean?

it's not actually yellow at all! I start with a base coat of white, then chestnut ink, snakebite leather, bronzed flesh and finally bubonic brown.
