3000 pt Balanced Casual
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:29:33 PM »
After playing a couple of games with what I have and then with proxies, I've decided I want to expand my army to 3000 points. I've came up with a list which not only contains what I do have but what I wish to get. I want to avoid all the Rare choices because I don't like them.

Lords
Templar Grand Master
Hammer of Judgement
Shroud of Magnus
Ring of Volans

Wizard Lord
Level 4
Warhorse
Rod of Power
Dispel Scroll

Heroes
Warrior Priest
Sword of Righteous Steel
Heavy Armour
Enchanted Shield

Battle Wizard
Level 2
Dispel Scroll
Wizard's Staff

Battle Wizard
Level 2
Dispel Scroll

Captain of the Empire
Full Plate Armour
Shield
Warhorse
Barding
Sword of Justice

Core
Swordsmen (25)
Musician
Standard Bearer
Halberdiers (9)
Handgunners (5)

Swordsmen (25)
Musician
Standard Bearer
Halberdiers (9)
Handgunners (5)

Swordsmen (25)
Musician
Standard Bearer
Halberdiers (9)
Handgunners (5)

Archers (10)

Crossbowmen (10)

Knightly Orders (9)
Inner Circle
Musician
Standard Bearer
Preceptor
War Banner

Knightly Orders (9)
Musician
Standard Bearer
Preceptor

Special
Great Swords (20)
Musician
Standard Bearer
Count's Champion
Free Company (10)
Handgunners (5)

Great Cannon

Great Cannon

Mortar

This actually comes to 3064, but I'm not sure what I want to drop. The Mortar would be the obvious choice, leaving me another 11 points to spend. The other option is the Captain, who is merely playing the role of a super-champion in the second Knight unit, dropping him will free me 30 points to spend else where. - Cheers

You have the inner circle knights listed as a core choice instead of special choice.
Starting w/ characters:
The lords look good,  most people would opt for the laurels on the general but this does protect his unit.
Given you have a mage lord, i'm not sure how much use you will actually get out of the wizard's staff.  I would probably just opt for a power stone or drop both the staff and scroll for a staff of sorcery.
I think the sword of righteous steel is a bit of a waste for a hero who has both hatred and the ability to give himself reroll to hit and to wound.  The speculum would probably be a better use of the points.

The army itself looks pretty good, no serious changes I see needed.

If I remember correctly, by taking a Grand Master Templar you may take one unit of Inner Circle Knights as a core choice over a special choice. I'll have a look at character equipment, see if I can save a small number of points here and there with them. Still not sure what to drop to save those last 64 points. Cheers for the feedback.

You have very little in the way of troops being able to re-direct  etc. I would suggest breaking down one unit of knights into 2 small units with musicians. You will get a lot more out of it. I used to run two big block of nights – and it just didn’t work.

I would also suggest taking a peggy for your wizard Lord – give him abilities to move etc…  Atm, he is quite static and could be easy pickings.

I would also suggest making the Captin of the Empire a BSB – atm – hes just a slightly improved champion – Try and take the imperial Banner this will also help keeping your army together – one or two failed terror tests can destroy your entire battle line, panic etc…  (NB- your greatswords ALWAYS need  BSB to help them out!!!!)

Your entire army needs to take advantage of your generals leadership – so you the army needs to move forward together. So I would also suggest getting rid of one block of swordsmen. At 3000 points there are some really nasty units which will eat through these guys so easily.

Use some of your rare choices – take some rocket batteries, 2 at least – your foot troops really need their support.
