Da Yellow Gitz
« on: February 25, 2010, 03:38:43 PM »
I've decided to start a new army and after much deliberation I chose Orcs and Goblins. I want to avoid the typical black outfits that most O&G armies feature but Im stuck between two different colour schemes. Opinions on what people prefer would be much appreciated. Please ignore the standard of painting and the fact that the models aren't finished, these are test models that were done in about three quarters of an hour just to compare the uniforms. Cheers.

I like the yellow one, because its different.  My advise would be to vary the red trim on each model so the are each a little different.

For the most part I painted my Night Goblins in black, but I really don't like the uniformed look of an all black unit.  I tried to throw in a smattering of browns or differing yellow trim decor to help break up the uniform look.

In my opinion Orcs and Goblins should be uniformed in their un-uniformity, if that makes sense.

The yellow is not bad but may be too overpowering in a large unit, maybe it should be toned down or a test of several models done in it first.

I prefer the yellow.

You should also take in mind "practical" considerations. After all, you will be painting a lot of Gobbos- was one considerably quicker than the other?

Blue - no, yelloooooooowwwwwww!!. Ok, joking aside, strong preference for the yellow guy, and agree with varying dags/markings and possibly a bit of darkening.

O&G are a great army, so congrats on the choice, but does this mean your Empire blog will stall? I sure hope not, I was loving your stuff!

No, no, no, the Empire will remain my main army and I will continue to add to it. A break from red and white will be nice though!
Back to the O&G's, yellow it is then I guess. Now all I've got to do is come up with some fluff to explain why creatures that typically wear black to shield them from the sun are wearing yellow....  :icon_lol:

I like the yellow one as well, but I do think you need to break the large zones more with adding more features in that red (or other colors) not only to the edges but also some patterns criss-cross around.

OK this is what Im thinking. Obviously the black needs highlighting and the weapons and shields aren't painted but you get the idea. What do people think?

The BFSP gobbos are amongst the easiest to paint minis i ever found. OK, i went the lazy way with black robes, but even if you paint the robes, the models are very simple to paint. I used them as a distraction from painting empire stuff. Paint some empire, slap a colour onto 10-15 gobbos, return to empire...
Just another imperial minotaur.

I just wonder what a whole unit would look like in dirty white robes, in fact in any other colour than black, they really are always black...

Not looking bad so far, agree with your attempt to move away from the typeset

Right then. Here's the first 5 finished miniatures in the scheme I went for. The shields lack depth so I might have to do a bit of work on them but otherwise Im happy

Also a very nice different outfit. Here is a pic of mine gobbos. Da Purpa Moon clan :icon_mrgreen:
I wanted to a different style of night gobbo's then the normal black. Hope you like them.

Sadly due to the varnish the shine a little on the pictures. :icon_redface:

Thank you, It took me around 600 hours to complete that army. I have extended it with another unit of 30 Night gobbo's. And are also currently busy with a lord on gigantic spider.

Right then. Im half finished with my 1st unit of night goblins. Im particuarly fond of the flames on the hood of the gobbo on the far right. Excuse the photos, they're not the best quality.

Better shots -
