Well I'm on to season 4.  The lead off show wasn't particularly stellar.

Episode 1 of season 4.

AH. No worries, season 4 gets exciting and is quite memorable, at least the Westeros part. I can't remember the Essos story line at that point.

I enjoyed it.

Still surprised me and also made me laugh.

Watched it a second time. My opinion changed to it is 'ok'. Third time will be the charm, I reckon.

There were some funny bits, I'll grant you.

Still have zero idea why in the story-world Drogon didn't melt Jon Snow. Arguments re: Jon being Targaryan are weak. Or that Drogon didn't know.

John's dagger was still in her, and Drogon had a good sniff.

Dragon's aren't dumb and she was his mum!

I'm already aware to a degree of what happens in the last show of season 8.  It is a bit difficult to avoid not learning.  No big deal, I'll still enjoy getting to it.

A bit unexpected in some parts and it felt a little bit to much of a soft happy ending kind of thing, but I'm good with it. Although I can imagine why there is a lot of ranting about it.

Well the plot lines are moving along to a degree in the 2nd and 3rd episodes.

There seems to be a bit of slowness to it with so many plot lines moving around, yet the complexity of knowing where all the characters are is also helping keep interest to a degree.

If you think this has a conventional hero's journey story arc, you haven't been paying attention.
-Ramsay Snow

It's like a whole lot of people thought it still had one, only that the *real* protagonist was someone else than the apparent one, or rather, who all the other dumb plebs thought was the protagonist.

I thought it was a decent ending. The world has been saved at great cost, all the great houses contending for the Iron Throne have all but perished and exhausted their power. The final assembly of the "great houses of Westeros" has its share of personalities who previously were nobodies but now have filled up the power vacuum, which made it all the more case in point. They don't want any more of the game of thrones, so they choose as king someone who isn't quite human but wise and beyond the ambitions and follies that led to the game of thrones in the first place. That, and lacks the independent power base to bring the great houses to heel in case of conflict, which suits them eminently well.

Sure, a great many viewers expected Jon to be chosen by the assembled lords, and to end the series sitting on the Iron Throne wearing his usual emoface. Jon, who just recently had killed Daenerys knowing fully well that doing so will probably lead to him dying horribly. He sacrificed himself, and his plot armour was only thick enough to mitigate it to exile and banishment.

The descent of Daenerys into madness, though? BLECH. Sure, the elements were there, but there are so many better ways that whole thing could have happened that would have led to the same conclusion. The way it happened was utterly random and almost out of the blue. She had effectively won the battle, her enemies were either surrendered or dead. But let's still have her lose her shit and start laying waste to the city, because FUCK YOU if you rooted for her as the liberating hero.

I wonder if Daenerys is really just an allegory for socialism.

I think you missed out some words like 'extreme' and 'tyrannical' there, Fidelis. Add those sort of words to any ideology and you take it to a whole new place.

I like puddings. Yum. Then someone suggests I take that like to extremes, and that I will kill for a pudding. But I won't do that. I just like puddings.

The problem with the later Daenerys storyline (and most of the lat season) is that it rushed a ton of character development into far too little time.

That said, the ending was OK for me. Nothing great, but it at least salvaged the final season. Sort of.

I like that the story came full circle. It was the story of the Stark children. I like that the Imp ended up as the de facto ruler (or at least Supreme Administrator of Dull But Necessary Shit) of Westeros.

Character I most wanted to punch in the face by the end: Greyworm.

People talk about Jon being all emo, but Greyworm was literally like the teenager who has a tragic to his first love and gets all emo... but he's also got the ability to go on a murder spree and influence politics as a result of his newfound & juvinile emotions...

Disappointing end to a disappointing season. Oh well ..

I was hoping he would lose his head to be honest.

Saw this, had to share:

Same. Considering he's going to Naath, all the unsullied are dead. Jono could have just stayed anywhere.

Anyone else appreciate they way they kept calling him Bran the Broken every five minutes? Dudes sitting there with superpowers hoping for a better title then that.

"It's Bran the Broken!"

"Hey guys, I was thinking maybe something less offensive..."

"Bran the cripple with the broken dick!"

His second (or whatever) in command said the army was all boarded to Greyworm, and then Greyworm said to sail off to Naath.. not sure what to do there. and the unsullied were arrayed at that square (with dany's speach) with the hundreds still (somehow it felt the unsullied became bigger and bigger after the winterfell batlle)

Unless you're from Naath, you will die from butterfly fever.

Ergo, Greyworm and the unsullied are dead in quite the gruesome manner before Jon makes it to the wall let alone take the oath again.

The problem with the later Daenerys storyline (and most of the lat season) is that it rushed a ton of character development into far too little time.

Dany wanted to fly off the handle plenty times before while in Essos, she was only restrained by wise council, which she was willing to follow at that time.

That said, her snapping at that moment made no sense indeed. It would have needed an actual trigger. What if Cersei would only have threatened killing Missandei (within earshot of a good amount of the people inside the city) if she actually attacked the city? Attack begins just the same, bells are rung, and there appears vengeful Cersei on the parapets of the Red Keep and gives Missandei a flying lesson...and people cheer at the image (people a good deal removed from the broken through troops but within sight and hearing of Dany). Good reason for her to finally snap with the fire of battle in her veins, the same goes for Grey Worm.
