Porkix - nice work sir! Thanks for posting these pics. With regard to your Pistolier horses - a simple fix would be a couple of coats of Sepia Wash, brushed liberally over the entire horse and you might also want to consider darkening their manes and tails. I seem to remember GW did a piece on this once and said that most (not all...) but most horses have dark manes and tails even if their bodies are quite light in color. If you look at your own example of what you were aiming for - a light tan body but with dark hair. Just my 2 cents worth....
If you go down to the woods today
You're in for a big surprise!

Grypppphhhonne Sepia is a wash that can't be recommended enough- I used it for my own palamino horse, and it came up beautifully.

@Lindemann: I suspect the tutorial you're thinking of is this one.

Thanks Lindemann, I will give  a try with gryphone sepia but I need to get  the wash first.

This time I am looking for advises for a colour scheme. I assembled a unit of  Sigmar knights with the idea to paint them as hunters of Sigmar. The problem I have is I have  been using the brettonian knights so their is  lot clothes to paint and the colour scheme for the hunters is very gritty using only leathers tones and metallic.
I don't think it will do good on my minis.
Any recommendation on the scheme? What about white and dark green? Not sure what I am looking for these guys...

OMG an update. I didn't update this blog for so long that I can happily overload the thread with new pictures.

First of all, I rebased my first block of swords and add a few extra goodies: unit filler and halfling. Here it goes:

You can see the little men in the front rank. The unit filler

If you remember the Lord of the rings when the uruks attack the helm's deep. One of the leader is standing on a rock urging the fellows to attack. That's the feeling I was trying to achieve.

Now my second block of swordsmen that also wear the white of the duellist school of Altdorf.

And a few fellows I like in this block

Not the best paint job ever but they look good "en masse"

What an army with a strong shooting party.

The gunners tainted their sleeves in black for obvious reasons. 3 blocks of 10 with marksmen.

and the leaders

Some crossbow men. Missing 3 and another block of 10 to strip and repaint in Altdorf colours. Those are 10 000km away so it wont happen so soon.

And finally the archers, old metals goodies with a mix of halflings and humans because my empire is not just a bunch a fanatics humans.

Here it is for today. I will save the flagellants update for tomorrow and most likely the second block of spears for the end of the week.

Comments are more than welcome.

And finally the crazies I finished a couple of weeks ago. I still have to get back 12 minis 5th edition to strip them and paint them in the same coulour scheme. I am quite happy how they turn out.
The filler idea is stolen for the miniature exchange of last year. Shadow lord idea i think...

Great blog, uniform folks yet nice variety of new and old stuff. Love the unitfiller, nice to see unitfillers that aren't ogres (not that well-done ogres aren't awesome).
Love the idea of mixing in various colours to vary the painting experience a bit. Stupid I didnt think of that myself. I'm gonna start mixing in myself, when I'm done painting beastmen.

The Averlander with hook halberd is really good, one of my all time fave models and you did an excellent job :eusa_clap: you should consider painting up a unit or two of Averlanders. I'm sure you can come up with a good reason why they're fighting alongside Altdorf units.

Hi, since I posted few engineer for the monthly competition, I thought I would update this blog with more of my leaders.

@Delthos: the marksman is a crew of the war wagon. My pic is very blurry so here is a link to solelegend, the one with blunderbuss
http://www.solegends.com/citcat9x3/c92354empartillery-01.htm
it looks like an open mouth but hard to say what...

@Mariner: Thanks for he compliment. I am always tempted to paint other colour scheme but I still want to keep this uniform look for the army so I try them on characters or unit filler, knights. You will see a good example below. Right now, I am in love with Nordland scheme  :engel:

Here we go with the update. A batch of engineer with pigeons or brass of pistols. They all wear their own colour scheme.

My attempt of a glowing effect on this wizard. I use him either as a death wizard or heaven

An other fire wizard (sometime light), I obviously suck at painting wizard. I never seem to find a good colour scheme.

A priest I painted a long time ago. Don't like the mini as well so I rushed the job...

Wilhem, captain of the empire and son of a burgmeister of Bogenhafen. Most probably my best paintjob so far.

My attempt to copy Chumley paint job on the sword is not perfect but I am still happy (as long as I don't look at the original).
So here Stephen, ex free-lancer knight that was enlisted for his impressive skills with a greatsword.

Man, every time I begin to feel good about my paintjobs, I just have to come into the Pit Brush and Palette to regain some humility...
I've dumped the plans of using Bretonnians. They suck.

Captain Wilhem is awesome  !  :eusa_clap:
The last one also looks very nice, but his armor and his face look like they aren't finished...
And that fire wizard is perfectly fine ... There's nothing wrong with his color scheme

You said that the second engineer (the yellow / white scheme with the repeater pistol and pigeon) was from Altdorf in the Painting Comp thread.. Why did you choose a yellow / white color scheme for him then? Any special reason?

Thanks guys,

@ Silver Wolf: I tried to end-up with a pale face for Stephen (the last one) but I ended up with this unfinished look. I think I will fix this later. Regarding the armor, which part looks unfinished? the gold part or the silver one?

@ StealthKnightSteg: If you look at the old empire book, the college of engineer is wearing the red, blue and yellow (for example the war wagon). Later on this colour scheme was used for Marienburg and I used the yellow as a 3rd colour for a lot of my troopers. So I was looking for a new colour scheme not used by any. I thought white and yellow  will look good combined with a dark brown leather and I actually do like a lot the colour scheme.
I am contemplating to paint a steam tank with this colours... but also tempted to keep the red and blue to match the rest of the army.

Ah I see :)
Well I think the steamtank would lean towards both. The whole model can be done in your yellow/white while any Shields/heraldrics can be done in blue red.
What ever you will do I'll look forward to it!

Hi lads,

Here is a few updates. 1st of all, I have never shared my big guns because I was planning to put them on a scenic base put time flies and I have moved to other projects so I will share them as they are right now.

I have painted one other canon, 1 mortar and 1 hellblaster but they are a few thousand km away with my stank and war wagon (I really want to have a go at painting these guys).

And finally, the big bullies, Ogres of Araby that have been travelling in the empire selling their swords to the most generous employers. No uniform here but a patchwork of clothes, cooking ware, plywood, sausages, trophies, scars and fat bellies. I must say that these minis are lovely, FULL of details and a pleasure to paint.

Great painting thread! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap:

Like the pistoliers, Ulric priest, cheetahs or leopards on shields, flames on outriders armor, and red & blue design on the one mortar.

Where does the one mortar come from not using the artillery legs?

I really like the paint job on the Averland Captain, as well as the wizards. :::cheers:::

The griffon templar knight unit is very well done.  I got a box of those and haven't decided how I'm going to do them, but it just goes ot show that being creative rather than traditional can work.

All the subtle conversions on the infantry are super!  Wondering what the one swordsmen who has his sheild on his back is carrying?

Enjoyed seeing the bow unit, too.

Hunters of Sigmar conversions look very good.

The Ogres from Araby, wow!  Wonderful figures and painting!  Where'd those come from?

I love the ogres.  Got a ranked-up unit picture?

GP's right about the infantry conversions.  Very lovely and they add plenty of character.  Can't wait to see more.
