Wow, that lighting effect is unreal. I wouldn't attempt it, fantastic effort on the priests, you do Sigmar's Church credit.

I agree the knight's benefit a lot from NMM. Don't look at all as flat as the metallic guys.

But yes it is difficult and time consuming. I have found that to get a good result I have to go over the area several times with thin layers, adding a little here and smoothing out some colours there.

You can possibly work with slightly thinner paints to make the passages from one colour to the next even more subtle, and perhaps add some even darker shading.

I have also found that a pinch of blue in the grey makes it less dull.
Oh, and you should check the colour balance, cause on this second photo the colours all look quite grey.

Great Start, I'm looking forward to see more from you, when that camera feels like showing up. I hate when cameras disappears, I lost one some years ago, still angry!

Non-metallic metal. It's a painting technique where you use regular colors to give the illusion of a metal surface rather than using the metallic sheen paints.

cheers for the tips m8!

Indeed the metallic knights (at least mine ) looked way too flat for my taste as you can see in the first page of the thread...
But i like to hope that my painting has improved a lot since then and i blame it on watching the work of you guys here and the comments i received!

Had thought of adding some blue in as well but wasn't sure... now that i got another vote towards it i will certainly give it a go!

also i agree the balance is off a bit... lets hope i find the camera and take some good pics of these poor old knights....

Yes there are a few places where the layering is lacking a little. But as you say, you have taken some huge steps within this plog.
It's great to see such a progress.
