Making Moulds...
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:07:53 PM »
Greetings All!

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to make moulds for mass producing bits such as armor plating or swords for personal use?  I remember seeing some post about making moulds out of green stuff, but I cannot find it anywhere.  Alternatively, can clay be used, and if so, how?

Cheers!

I like it. Reminds me of this scene I made out of Legos of Harry Potter being burned at the stake. - Your Mother

I think the best method for you to use depends on what you consider "mass producing" to mean, whether you want single or two part moulds and what level of detail you wish to retain from the original.

GS single sided moulds will do fine for a few copies now and then and can be done quite cheaply.

If you're thinking about making several dozen copies of lots of different components then you may be looking at making two part RTV silicone rubber moulds and casting in resin. About £40 (in the UK) initial outlay will give you the ability to make several hundred 'bits' such as shields, heads, weapons etc.
