This is one of the really old ones, I have only seen three in my whole life and I own two of them.  This is the earliest stank, manned by (Imperial) Gnomes.  It is lead and is heavier than you would expect. The cannon in the front was a steam powered, and the head on the sides were for venting steam upon attackers in close combat, I wish they would bring that feature back. there was a bridge for the commander to stand and steer, but unfortuneately a pet involved accident put an end to that piece. it made it look more like a ship.  I apologise for the poor pictures, but I was having trouble navigating photobucket and this all I could retrieve. steveb

I love it.
Sometimes pieces are so old,
that i think they are not worth painting because i mostly like the new models more.
But if you look at good quality painting, then the models look stunning.
Good job, job well done. _o_

Nice ogre, please when you get more pictures, to post them here. I know I have seen them in your blog. You can also copy those from the blog, no need to look for the originals. But, be my guest.

Let be noted here, that if any member has or plans to make a blog of his older minis, that if he/she posts a link here, I will copy that link to the first post, so that it will be easier for others to find it in the future, like I did with White Knight's blog. In fact their blogs shall be nominated as collections - in the same way they did it on The stuff of legends web site:

Steveb needs to open a US based Warhammer museum and charge people for looking at his old stuff and collection in its entirety.  I got my War Wagon mint in box from him.  Still afraid to open it up and put it together and paint it.  Its a bit like a professional artist touching up the Mona Lisa, it would probably be ok when done, just intimidating if you were to mess it up.

manned by (Imperial) Gnomes.

Would that be "gnomed by (Imperial) Gnomes?"

Strangely, I've got one of the pipe smoking guys leaning on a cane -- on the left and right of your crew line-up. Nothing else, just that one guy. I've got some old (pre-slotta) townfolk/civilians and just thought he was one of them, and was supposed to be a short, hunched old man. Good to get the ID!

Do you mean the old Ral Partha Dwarf Steam Cannon (early '80s)?

Few and far between that one. Ebay's probably your only hope of getting one.

maybe, since you said "great" you mean vey big? there was the earth shaker chaotic dwarf cannon that was more like a mortar, but huge. Maurauder also produced a dwarf cannon very like the empire great cannon.  and then there was the Grenadier company great Dwarf cannon that was more the size of the chaotic hell cannon or whatever it is with all the skulls on it. I think that possibly the only one that you can still buy over the counter so to speak is the Grenadier model and it is made now by Mirliton? a spanish company that bought the grenadier lines and molds, if I I am right.  Good luck finding whatever it is that you are seeking, they are out there and it is an adventure to find them.  steveb

Well, they aren't available from GW anymore so I guess they count as collectors now. I know I had to pay collectors prices for most of these to get a big 25 man unit (actually only 23 models). They are Vesperro's Vendetta. So here they are, even though those two Mordheim figs aren't yet collectors figs.

Cool thread, I love old minis.

Sorry most of my pictures below have been shown before, but here's a few of my favorite oldies that I have pics of.

The guy in the front is an old 80's liche, the two flanking him are Barrow Wights from the Citadel LOTR range of 80's and the one on the far right is a Nazguel from the same line. (Now used as cairn wraiths)

An old Medusa.

An old Goblin standard, I think he's the standard for the old Grom's Goblin Guard regiment of renown.  Below that is a link to my O&G army blog which I would guess is 95% oop minis.

I painted this up for a competition over on the warhammer forum a while ago.  The theme was the red period, and I thought chaos dwarves personify the red period more than anything else to me.  It was a good bit of fun painting up something so garrish  Don't stare directly at the base, you may go blind.

Gumbafish: do you the other parts of that rocket launcher? He looks cool I must say :-)

I love those old mini's, way better then the new ones.

Novogord, I do have the other crewman and the rocket launcher itself.  I haven't painted them, and was actually just considering what I wanted to do with them.  Part of me wants to see if I can get any money for them, and the other part wants to paint the rest of it and have it as my own little tribute to the red period and my warhammer roots.

DO IT!  It would look awesome in the Red Period scheme.  Although I personally don't care for the red period, but you have pulled it off well, and I would love to see the whole kit done up like it.  THEN you can sell it (for more money too)
