S.O.F's WIP Stuff: Winter is Coming (5/10/14)
« on: February 02, 2011, 02:26:53 AM »
Well for some odd reason got bored and whilst rummaging through my odd sprues and what not came up with the idea to make a more proper looking Imperial Pegasus....even though I never use them and am generally not a fan of such things. Anyway here are some quick pics. Not the best camera but I hope to use one of my old roomate's soon so I can put up a bunch of the other stuff I've doing of late such as the Jacobite/Highlander regiment and detachments, Archer box converted to handgunners, and the Ulrican Gallowglass types.

Bits used are a spare set of Bret pegasus wings (thank you GW packing error), empire general horse, Lucrezza Belladona horse head, and green stuff. Stupid sun/moon/comets/karl franzs removed for more modest Imperial crosses from old state troop shields.

Looks good so far, but the pics are a bit small.  Some closeups would be nice.  From what I can see, the GS work looks pretty smooth.

Agreed.  I'm a fan, though I've always wondered about something regarding pegasi...

It always seems like for modeling purposes, it is easier to attach the wings further back on the steed but you can envision riders with their legs forward or aft of the wings.  From an anatomy standpoint, it would make 'sense' (I know... I'm talking about a winged horse here) for the attachment to be at the shoulds of the animal and utilize the pectoral muscles like a bird.  In fact, as I think about it, I'd guess a pegasus would have a seriously beefy front-half.

/end rant.

Sum - what do you think of the possibility of moving the wings to the shoulder of the horse and adjusting the rider's position?

Thanks for sharing!

I think that comment was meant to go in Dark Apostle's plog.

From what I can see the conversion is solid, but I can't say much more than that though. Larger photos would definately help. Looking forward to seeing it properly and being able to post more helpful comments. :)

Excellent work, I wish I had the same combination of skill with GS and imagination.

What is that standard from if you don't mind me asking? both the metal parts on the pole and the banner itself.

Great models, I especially like the White Wolf banner bearer, is that head from the Chaos Marauder Horsemen kit? The animal head on the shoulder from White Lions? Where-oh-where did you get these bannerpole endings? Excellent conversion, lovely greenstuff work.

I think the metal bits on the banner pole are the back thingys from Ar-Ulric. The animal head on the should has been cut out from the cloak on the white wolf sprue that comes with the knightly orders box.

Yep those are indeed the bits. Really saw no point in wasting those Wolf pieces on the back of the Ar-Ulric, really why the hell would he be wearing them, and the WW banner seemed ideal. The head is from the Chaos Marauder horsemen.

Nice work on the conversions.

Instead of using green stuff to make your metal strapping for the chassis of the mortar, try lightweight cardboard from the packaging some things are packaged in. I've got a pair of binoculars I got from work for a 10 year anniversary gift. The card board is about 1mm thick, it bends very easily without wrinkling and it looks quite good. Superglue it on one long flat edge. Once it is dried, slowly bend the strip around the edges making sure the strip lies flat and put pressure on the crease to get the fold crisp, then glue it down and repeat until it's covering the area you want. I took the extra arrows that come with the various kits and sliced rivets off from them. Then using a fresh sharp hobby knife, picked them up with the point, carefully dipped them in some superglue and put them in place for my rivets. The results are much better than you can get with greenstuff.

See how I did it for my pleasant surprise.

Very nice, though the kilts on the handgunners look too thickly sculpted, the rest are better.

Some more various bits of late though these are more WIP than the above.

Had too many old Golgfag minis about and was growing weary of their most dreadful status so have been giving them a bit of a revamp:

Now a couple of WIP Araby guys. Not certain what I want to do with them they were sort of whim projects some months ago. I have considered making an entire regiment...perhaps even a War Elephant....but right now this is what I've got.
