Warhammer Empire compendium (image database)
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:52:53 PM »
As discussed over here http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=35871.msg591301#msg591301, I was thinking (as well as StealthKnightSteg) it would be a great addition to the Warhammer Empire community to have an image database with all the box covers, blisters, figures, books etc. I've done some scanning and collecting myself and have put it up on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/shadow_z80/photos

Not sure what practical options are to bring this online, but it would be nice to have it integrated with the Wiki, so it's in nice categories and indexed for searches.

What are the others' ideas and views on this?

And to quote StealthKnightSteg efforts:
I am working on creating a sort of a compendium on this with the Copyright dates as release dates (not sure how accurate this is). Might be a way to get this on the site maybe? (Probably when we get moved to another server).

Anyway I would like to be as accurate and complete as possible with the support of pictures of the box designs. And if not a box design then good pictures of the assembled (painted or not) models themselfs.

Maybe a nice idea to start up with atleast a textual list and a mark if we have the pictures on them aswell. Then later we can add the actual pictures into a wiki or something when we can get this up. Atleast this way we can start gathering what we still need.

Also the Books is a nice idea, but not needed. http://www.lexicanum.com
If I'm not mistaken on the link has almost every book with image of the WHFB series.

EDIT: specific link here: http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Category:Army_books_and_Rulebooks

i think this is a fantastic idea, i spent 6 months scouring e bay 2 years back , when i got back into warhammer hobbying, as i was never historically a warhammer player, i used to be 40K when i was young.

If I could have found a database of every model ever made, i could then have started collecting methodically.

Can you include images of every model assembled also!?

:)

Ask yourself , what is real? 5 sense filtered reality is a very limited perspective.

Well this was the idea already with all the blister packed models, but I think it will be a bit too much to do with the box kits as you would then also need to include pictures of every sort you can make from them (i.e. 7th ed state troopers is a picture of swords, spears and halbs)

And I think we will be very dependant on available pictures as me and Shadow here aswell don't have complete ranges of all the models. This is where the W-E community comes in :)

What would be a good way for an online checklist? An Excel via Google docs? Or a small database? It's a good start in any case!

Guess we should contribute to Lexicanum as well, since a lot of links don't have info (and thus no image) yet

Lexicanum is a bit of a mess, but at this link all the book images are there (I think 1 maybe 2 missing in the complete list)
http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Category:Army_Books_and_Rulebooks_images

Or at this link http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Category:Army_books_and_Rulebooks and then look up the first block of the links "Rule Books Xth Edition"

The problem is that all of those images are GW's intellectual property. They might not get too upset over some pictures of our own assembled and painted models, but they might get angsty about us using their box images.

Sprue and assembled model pictures are a good idea, but, in reality, they already have that for most of the models on GW's website.

I am in no way trying to shoot down this idea. I just think it needs to be cleared with all of the moderators.

I know... already mentioned this in the other thread (mentioned in first post), also the reason why I only have a digital document at home locally stored with the mention that every image is under copyright protection from GW and that the document is for personal use only..
I don't know what exactly is in the Empire collector's guide from GW, because I don't have that. But that book is maybe the only source of a complete overview of Empire models ever made. And that is just exactly what I want for reasons of collecting miniatures.

I don't know the Empire collector's guide, what is it?
We could always e-mail GW and ask them if they would mind a Warhammer Empire compendium.
Then again Lexicanum doesn't seem to have a problem with it (though that doesn't have to say anything of course).

I wasn't on planning to ask it on behalf of W-E, more in a general way.
But do you mean W-E got banned here, or that GW closed a website who used their images?

And I still don't know the details on the Empire Collector's Guide  :)

Can anyone help me out in identifying (the dates from) the following boxes:
http://www.myspace.com/shadow_z80/photos/albums/album/1449926#mssrc=SitesPhotos_SP_AlbumCover_ViewAlbum
It's Empire Knights, Free Company, Flagellents and Greatswords.

I've also updated http://rguichelaar.dynsdns.org/warhammer/compendium/warhammer_empire_compendium.htm

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and I forgot to note if the 2003 canon/mortar is metal or plastic. Does anyone know? The 2004 Volleygun was still metal in any case.

That's the 6th ed. cannon/mortar kit right?  Definitely plastic, it's the same one we've got now.

As far as I know, but I haven't bought that kit since before the rebox so I couldn't say for sure.  I've still got one sealed at home, when I get back for Easter break I'll crack it open and take some pictures if I remember.

There is a second edition of the Empire Collector's Guide?
Does anyone know the difference with the first edition?

Main difference is the Storm of Chaos Empire figs are included in the 2nd edition and KF has his new hammer/runefang sprue instead of the old super hammer - Valten, Ar-Ulric, Teutogen guard etc, all in. However, neither book has all the mini's from 4 edition (1st army book era) in it. For instance foot Reiksguard foot with flail thingy is missing, 3rd metal mounted hero missing, 4th variant of Teutogen Guard missing and so on.  :eusa_wall:

Yes, I recall that box! Also for Knights Panther and Blazing Sun if I recall correctly. I also saw the same auction on eBay  ;)
Speaking of which, I got a boxed Regiment of Altdorf from eBay, weehoo!
