Heraldry Challenged Reiksguard Foot need suggestions.
« on: July 13, 2004, 09:50:23 PM »
Well with a few more things to do on these fellows (Laurels, talismans in gold when I find a good gold paint not this GW crap, and the plumes), I have run into a wall thinking of what to put on for the shields heraldry. I think simple geometric designs are out for these fellows but I'm at a loss of what sort of beast of iconography might best suit these fellows.

Any and all suggestions welcome, maybe someone might point me in the direction of one of Imperial Forges transfers that might look particularly well on these fellows.

Well, if you want them to be reiksguard, the skull with laurels is the way to go.

I suppose I should have explained the situation more. These fellows are not going to be Karl Franz's bodyguard Reiksguard, but sub into my own army as Great Swords.  At the momment I have no herladry for my Empire army, mainly because having large regiments of old Metal Halberdiers without shields I've never bother to come up with anything beyond the Red, White, and Black color scheme I use.

The Imperial cross would seem your best bet to me!

For good gold paint buy Tamiya Color Acrylic Paint either the Gold Leaf or the Titanium Gold.  The titanium is a little duller but looks more metallic than the gold leaf.
I never touch reality myself you understand, I find it gets in the way of the hallucinations.

I used the same figs.  For mine I used the eagle from the soldiers of the empire shield sprue.  Red shield and black eagle.

Also take the big banner from the command group and add a couple of eagles to it.  I looks sharp.

Hmmm,  this is probably unethical on my part..    but here are some suggestions:

You can find more ideas on my site in the Decals section. These are just some ideas.

The crowned skull, maybe with laurels, and a scroll with the word "MALLEUS" which is the moto of the reiksguard. It means hammer if you wondered.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Alright I've quite liked the eagle suggestion, but not particularly the SotE raised shield design. Playing around in paint for a while I came up with this:

Now the problem would be how to do it.

yeah, this would be too fiddly to try on a small 25mm shield, especially the quartering. And producing a number of those for a unit... good luck!

Can't you print them out on the decal sheets and apply to the shields?

I think the LOL smiles were a bit overkill don't you :)

Anyway here was the test with the transfers I have at the moment.

Wasn't that hard at all to do it would only be a matter of getting double headed eagle transfers as well as ones like the little castle.

Imperial Forge, how small can you make you transfers?

there were castles in the old Fantasy decal set, but I doubt that you could find any of those left.

I am getting a new color laser printer, so I am not sure at the moment. There is a point, generally, after which small gets too small. Besides, quartering this fine in 28 mm may be counterproductive - the shields will appear cluttered, especially if there are a few of them in a unit. I would stick with one beast per shield.
