Empire army of the Moot
« on: June 02, 2011, 04:16:58 PM »
Since I just posted my Captasus, I figured it would be nice to show of my entire army here. So here we go!

Hi guys!

I started to work on my Empire army again, but I'm lacking motivation, so I thought it would be a smart idea to start a painting blog.

But it's not going to be a standard Empire army, that would be too easy. It's an army from the Moot. So lots and lots of Halflings! YAY! When the army's finished I should have painted about 200 of the little guys!

The army is not going to be a game winner, but it should look cool on the tabletop!

It should look a little like this:

Every model is GW, but some of them are very old..

The models that I use as Greatswords are from 1984, so they're even older than me! ;o

And now for some painted pics!

This was a small 750 pts army that I had to finish for a tournament. At the time I didn't have time to finish the banners and shields yet.

50 Free Company, 20 Greatswords, a Captain BSB, a wizard and a Mortar with customized template ;p

Halflings have their own Steam Tank of course, but the standard version is waaaaaay too big for these cute little fellows. So they have their own model:

A unit of Huntsmen with a skirmish movementtray:

Crappy pic of my warrior priest:

My very cute little Pegasus rider:

And my BSB:

So this is where the army is currently at:

This was at a tournament last week where I managed to win second place and best painted!

Up next should be a unit of Halfling Housewives, that count as Flaggelants!

I have 6 of each of those models, but it would be boring to have so many duplicates in the unit. So do you guys have any genious ideas how to convert these Halflings?

awesome!!

But I definatly think you need to get some Swordlings and halblings besides your militia units.. then it will be just a regular Empire army only "smaller" :)

I love halflings ! I too recently got Cedric the ogre slayer . Are they all GW halflings ?

For the women have you got Lobelia Sackville as I think she would fit in well with them ?

Thanks for all the positive reactions!

Yes, everything is GW :)

I have thought about adding LOTR Hobbits, but the scale is totally different, and they don't really match. So the only thing I will use are the ponies from the Scouring of the Shire set.

Great idea and lovely models to make it work!
I especially like that Halfling 'housewife' on the left, very stern wife with a cudgel.

Look forward to more!  :-D

Too many women? Other than the obvious painting schemes and green stuff work as in hair etc., and sending them to me. You might think about context, place them in little dioramas on 40x bases.. maybe have two gossiping over a fence. Roller pin cudgel lady standing over a dog who has just made some kind of mistake. Maybe one in front of a large cooking pot.there should be many more that you can think of. Good luck, steveb

Yesterday I played some games vs a friend of mine, and we made some pics of the epic battles!

We played 1500 points, my Halflings vs his Chaos Dwarfs. In the first game my luck never seemed to end.. until turn 2 ;p

My Halflings were about to get charged by a whole lot of misery...

And that didn't end well.

I was wiped out, and we decided to play a second game.

And again it didn't look too good for my Halflings.

But then the brave archers charged his Orcs in their flank, and managed to hold them up for a turn!

Next turn, I charged the Orcs, and with some help from the Lore of Light, the Halflings destroyed the Orcs!

All in all, it were some fun games, and I really like playing with this army! :D

This is amazing. Halflings are the best thing ever.

I would love to play against this army.

Fantastic army!  It must have taken lots of patience to collect all those halflings - I assume from ebay?

I had thought of doing a halfling force, but in that case I would use primarily non-GW halflings from battleforge, BTD, or black hat minis for the ease of acquisition.

Ok time for some new pics! Again, they're not really good, but it's better than nothing I guess :)

First some new warmachines!

Another "Mortar"

And a Halfling sized Helblaster Volley Gun!

And now the good stuff. I'm working on my unit of Flaggelants. The first rank is finished.

I also got to have some fun with the conversions, like this unit filler.

And finally, the entire unit.

I'll try to make some pics of the Halflings in action soon, as I can't seem to make decent pictures here at home...

Epic blog! But speaking as a collector: do not cut up any of these old treasures for conversions! Just vary the poses, colours, bases etc, and I see you already are making unit fillers, which is my preferred use of multiples in an army. And what an epic face-off; halflings vs chaos dwarfs! I see that Frodo even lost his precious ring in one of the battle pictures ;)

BLAM! The unit is finished already, and I'm really pleased with the result :)

Again, sorry for the terrible pics. I'll try to make some better ones tomorrow.

Up next.. a Warrior Priest to make these girls a Core choice :)
