Why isnt there an Engineer Lord?
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:53:54 PM »
Was trying to come up with an Engineer Fluff army and the Master Engineer has week stats and cost more than a Capt of the Empire.

Would be nice to field a "tech" type army but we dont really have a true lord choice for this.

I know there are some rumors about new empire stuff in June.  Be nice if some of it was new ideas instead of just rehashing a bunch of the same stuff.

And the head of the Colleges of Magic, not Engineering afaik.

I'd love to see a Leonardo of Miragliano type of character who gives bonuses to war machines or allows you to field Stanks as core or something...
Have one  on Midaski's tab.  :::cheers:::

Stanks as Core! That would be great. While you are at it, he may as well be able to ride a Stank as well. Then you'd be able to field all the Stanks that exist in the Empire in a 2,500 point game, assuming they'd reduce its points some.  :eusa_clap:

Steveb has been preparing for just that possibility for years...

I think you would probably be best fielding a GoTE as your lord and just kitting him out with a ranged weapon or such. Not really ideal, but he could be armed like an engineer without the poor stats.

Yeah, as far as stats and such, Engineers are specific purpose characters, not really intended to be front line combat personnel. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be cool, just that that is probably why there is no engineer lord.

Bear in mind there is a difference between the field commander and the bloke in charge. If the Engineers went to war, they would likely have the army commanded by a guy who knows what he is doing (GotE, for example) they are paying for the services - with actual command residing with a senior Engineer behind the lines.

You could even field a TGM as the field General - representing an elite corps of engineering college warriors.

Q: Why isnt there an Engineer Lord?

A: The ability of an Engineer Lord to call in orbital strikes would make all Daemon and Dark Elf players say that Empire is broken  :icon_rolleyes:

You'd of loved 4th edition -- "Your army may include up to eight Steam Tanks."  And my friend had 8 steam tanks. Of course, you did need more than 2500

I don't know about that. While I love the look of the Steam Tank, I've never been impressed by it's performance in game. They'd have to change it lot for me to get more than the two I have, or even field more than one at that. I've got one plastic and one metal stank.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to bring down now -- back in 4th it had a WS of 3 so no autohitting it and T10 so basic troops couldn't even wound it -- not like now where it doesn't matter your strength, you wound on a 6. And it could just drive off, so no tar pitting it. Elves were a pain to squash though since you didn't do impact hits, you just drove over stuff and made them take I test.
