Albrecht Hexenjaeger's Campaign 2014
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:18:33 AM »
Gebirgsjager. Mountain riflemen. These are going to be my new Huntsmen. I got the idea while watching something on the Military Channel, and figured in game terms, they'd just be mountain men with really crappy old/antique rifles that use the rules as bows. I've been working on some other stuff lately too, but I thought it best to send the scouts out first...

Some simple greenstuffing where I had to cut away some hat to make room for the rifle.

The shape of this guy's hat just cried for a Daniel Boone style raccoon hat!

Marksman

Now they just need a bit of clean up where I missed some mold lines and some greenstuff sanding before priming.

Very nice!
I'm not really sure I like the count as bow's rule though...

Yeah...not exactly WYSIWYG, but it's a cool idea I had to do.

Looks really nice, I really like having handguns on those Archer bodies. And you have some more little conversions on them as well. Looking forward seeing them painted.

They look great with the rifles, especially Davy Crocket dude. That rakoon tail looks like a great idea.

I've got no problem with the counts as aspect. That's awesome.

I've got to agree; the models look fab and I think the "counts as" is a great idea. One of the reasons for the development of the handgun is the fact it requires less training to use than a longbow and allows for more accurate fire. The rules difference between the two is not great - S4 and AP vs S3 and no AP - and is easily explained by a smaller caliber or less powder being used. If these are huntsmen, used to taking down rabbits etc. then they likely would not have as powerful weapons as the main handgunner regiments who are shooting at armored men.

Nice conversions.

Those handguns are BIG. Put on other bodies than the handgunners', they look even bigger. Perhaps they are the old and heavy Hakenbüchse, shot supported on a branch, pole, or stone. Further conversion ideas...

Thanks, guys! I can't wait to have those Huntsmen finished and posted here. :biggriin:

Sending more scouting parties ahead, I present Outriders that I finished up just days before my last post.

Random fella picked out of the ten.

Very nice paintjob, realistic and clean. The bases look very decent too. Maybe the reins could be painted in a more contrasting colour. Now they merge with the horses' skin a lot. Just a matter of taste really.

Yeah, I admit I took the easy way out with black reins and dark fur, but man, I hate painting horses. My first Warhammer army was Bretonnia like sixteen years ago, and I think it scarred me for life.  :biggriin:

These are great, I love the mute colors and the purity seal (?) is that what it is called? The red wax with the scroll.

Time for some WIP swordsmen. You'll notice some of these guys glued together on thin plasticard. It's easier for painting and ranking than regiment bases or individual bases. I've got them grouped mostly as pairs...only 23 more to paint! And all the bases...and shields.

Really like the wizard, especially the burnt holes.  Are the keys from the Flagellants kit?

Yeah they are. I've always liked the imagery associated with Fire/Bright wizards, but GW have never really produced a model that matches the artwork. So I made one. Half Flagellant, half wizard kit. Just add greenstuff. And bits.  :biggriin:

Raising an army of fanatical Sigmarite flagellants and Witch Hunters, and keeping them in check, is no small feat. Only the toughest of men hardened by years of death, war, and horrors beyond belief can even come close to maintaining some sense of discipline and training. Only grizzled warrior such as Gerhard von Steuben even come close...

Nice, I might have to copy that conversion.  How well does he actually fit on a 20mm base?

@Oxycutor-I had to trim the tab a bit, but the soles of his shoes sit about three quarters on the base. I'll get another pic up soon when the first layers of green stuff set.
