My new forge world dreadnoughts
« on: April 06, 2012, 01:27:11 AM »
Here are my new babies. One venerable black Templar, a plasma cannon mkiv arm is on the way. The other is a bt contemptor. Another ccw and laser cannon arm are coming. He has a magnetized right arm.

Nice!

That Contemptor looks like it will actually be able to walk in a somewhat smooth gait. (unlike regular dreads, or Ork dreads for that matter!).

Love the venerable Philly, they are gorgeous models. You going to use the Contemptor as a normal dread, or a Contemptor?

While I am not impressed with the Contemptor dread rules and actually think the Venerable rules are MUCH better, I will use the rules for the model.  The Contemptor is like 220 points versus a similarly equipped Venerable who runs only 140.

Most of the forgeworld rules are a bit on the lackluster side when it comes to points efficiency, I think that may actually be a strategy to reduce objections to FW stuff being used in games.

And those dreads look great. Post another set of pics of them when they're painted!

It will be a while. Probably fall. I am reall going to drive through my orks this summer.

I hav never seen forge world rules that made me worry. They are expensive, offer little instability, and really don't wow you outside of the appearance.

With the contemptor, you are paying for one more point of front armor and five plus invulnerable save.

I am fairly certain I read something from Forge World to that effect somewhere Aldaris.  They make awesome models, but their units tend to be either under powered or over costed, which pretty much equates to the same thing.

I don't actually like either the Contemptor or Venerable rules for their points value.  Give me bargin priced regular dreads any day of the week in rules, using the usually much sexier and flashier Venerable models lol

I think twenty points for the venerable upgrade is awesome.
