Knights with great weapons?
« on: April 12, 2012, 07:59:33 AM »
I've had this headache for a while, regarding Great Weapon-wielding knights, and it has simply gotten worse with the new releases...

Basically my issue with them in the past was that the GW option is clearly better than lances for Core knights, but as far as I know the current kits lack GW bits (a vast majority of my Empire army was 2nd hand  :icon_redface:).

So...
1) Any advice on crafting GW's for knights?
2) Any news on whether there will be new knight models?

Thanks!

1) you could use the greatswords, from the GS kit, or the free company, which comes with quite a few.
2) no, i don't think so. especially as they haven't changed the old rules.

I used the two handed hammer arms from the white wolf sprue and replaces the hammers with the sword from the knight champion arm as it was suitably large - you could use any appropriate big weapon instead though - axe, mace, etc. would not have to be sword. The cloth shoulders on the WW arms allow a bit of colour on the knights as well.

give them a lance and put the great weapon on thier back or saddle, use the lance on the first charge, for the rest of the game use the great weapon. The lance is no longer good, as they have probably broken their lances, or have great weights impaled on the ends of them, thus rendering them useless.   :icon_rolleyes: steveb

I use the questing knights for brets, with various other models thrown in to bulk out the unit.
Why would he look there?  Never ever has there been balls under an elf's robes.   :closed-eyes:

You can't take both, but you could model them that way. The fluff would be that they use the lance on the change and then drop it. Lance gives +2 S on the charge, like a GW does all the time. Obviously, the ASL is an issue - you would always strike last, even on the charge - but it would be fluffy and allow you to dual-purpose your Knights.

I used bits from the Greatswords box.  They lost some of the full plate look but you can pick just the arms up on e-bay for pretty cheap.

You don't have to make them two-handed, you can just make them large and one-handed, which cavalry weapons almost always tended to be.

They're a bit messy because they're old and salvaged but you can see my point.

I can actually only think of Persian heavy cavalry who would wield two-handed weapons, and they were thrusting lances.
