Fenrisian wolves as cavalry..
« on: April 18, 2012, 04:38:56 PM »
I was thinking earlier today while at work (where I do all my best thinking about the hobby  ), How easily do you think it would be to sort out putting Empire cavalry knights on the Fenrisian Wolves models?

I'm not necessarily thinking for game purposes but just as something to model, although using them as Demigryph knights would be an added bonus.

Does anyone know the scale? Obviously saddles aren't on them, but I could GS some on or something, would they be too small?
Would it work with those bigger ones that the thunderwolf Spacewolf cav ride (minus the implant bionics and such of course).

2nd brainwave: Sabertusks. What about knights on them, does anyone know the scale again?
Would they look kind of right or too big/small one way or the other?

Fenrisian Wolves will, I think, be too small.

Thunderwolves are great as DGK proxies.

Sabertusks would probably work for both.

Take a look at the pics on the GW site and compare them to the bases; Fenrisians fit neatly on a 40mm round, which makes them a shade too small for cavalry for human-sized figures.

I’ll confirm that Fenrisian wolves will look too small. They build up a similar size as a horse but they’re much too thin to mount a human on. The wolf running action on the two where their knees are touching would look strange as the rider would have to have his leg sticking out sideways. They might suit a resident of the Moot if they run out of chickens.

Don’t know about the other two options, I’ve seen unmade Thunderwolves and thought their rears looked un-naturally thin compared to the front and shoulders, but as they’re obviously able to mount a 40K marine a knight would look OK.

Hmm, maybe i'll give the sabretusks a go.
Any other models roughly the right size to try do you think?

I've got 15 knights and horses. But I already have a unit of 15 and don't really need them in the army, just didn't want them to go to waste..

Linky from Estel's Cult of Ulric thread. I believe they are Thunderwolf Cavalry used for DGKs.
