GW Jacks the Price Up on Empire Models
« on: April 27, 2012, 04:15:58 PM »
Just checked the GW website. Every unit is almost or more than double the price than what they have normally been marked at. State troops use  to cost $24.95 for 10 of them; now their $41.00 for 10!  :-o

Ours in canada are the same.  Not sure why they would jack the price up.  My experience is that GW does not follow the exchange rate for money of each country, but adds a base amount to different countries.

Check your country setting. I have seen this before. You are using Austrailian dollars. Prices have not doubled.

Though the way US economy is going I wouldn't be surprised to see the price double. Only way out of our current mess is massive inflation (which is already happening with certain necessities).

Ah, this was the problem! The funny thing is, I actually believed they jacked the price up. Didn't seem unreasonable when coming from GW ...

GW converts your currency into GBP and then adds some leway to protect against fluctuations.

The flaw with converting to GBP is that some countries do very little trade with the UK so your currency can get a better deal with a different country other than your own.
That's why Auusies and Canadians can buy GW stuff from the USA for like 30% savings.

Like buying three new Predators from an eBay seller for less than the price of buying two in New Zealand (including postage).

Which is why for the bulk of my army, aka the infantry regiments, I buy from cheaper vendors. It may mean I can't get into "official" GW tournaments, but on the local circuit I can still kick but and take names with a sizeable "pike and shot ripoffsky" force. I use Warlord Games' Pike and Shot boxed sets. $30 gets you 50 minis, about 30 pike and 20 shot. And they look more realistic (obviously) than GW. I use the Imperial Infantry boxed sets which are supposed to be the Habsburg troops of the Thirty Year's War ( the REAL Empire). I still use GW Empire Knights, Cannon, and other "special" minis, but the bulk bought Imperial regiments really cuts down on the cost. More bang for your buck.  :::cheers:::

I freaked out when I saw GWs website then I looked up at the customer service number and realized it was Australian!

How fortunate that GW isn't in the tournament game anymore.  Game on...the only reason to buy their overpriced models is gone...and they take another misguided step toward bankruptcy.

Whew!  About gave me a heart attack.  On a somewhat related note, there's a new Empire Battalion coming out May 5.  Anyone know what type of units will be included in it?

Nevermind, I see the thread on it.

Prices were the same in Sweden. A mistake most certainly.

I was just about to reply "what, just empire models" but it seems I didn't need to.

May time is usually when they increase the prices of models anyway, so it isn't that far fetched.

Except if you actually looked at financial data, you'd see gw made good profit last year, and the shares went up loads.

Isn't the annual price hike the end of may?
GW can pucker their skanky lips and suck my arse.
