Topic: The best state troops combo

In your actual experience, which of the following should be the best combo?  I currently lack the time I'd want to play and test so I ask for your extense experience with 8th Ed. and the new Empire book and see if I convert my swordsmen or complete them:

- 28 swordsmen and 13 halberds
- 28 halberds and 13 swordsmen
- 41 halberds (28 and 13 or whatever)
- 41 swordsmen (28 and 13 or whatever)

Consider all buffs/character support you think fit best with the combo you choose.  I have plenty AL,WP, GotE and Captains and a Luminark/Hurricane awaiting assembling so I can adapt.  Mostly I play smallish games ranging from 1500-2500.  I don't like massive battles because they take too much to finish them and what I don't have is time!

Another useful information.  My other blocks are 32 spearmen and 22 GS with handgunners, xbows, archers and Free Company to toy between separate units or detachments.

Well the best combo I've been using is 50-60 spearmen with 25-30halberd detachmetns. The games I play are 2000pts.

In regards to your question:
Make the swordsmen the detachment always. Halberds and spearmen are the best parent units.

Personally I'd rather have 41 halberds over 28halberds and 13models in a detachment.

And the 41 halberds in horde formation I think, or maybe 7x6?

I'd start out as a horde, circumstances allowing, and reform if you chance upon something you'll likely lose against no matter what (30 White Lions in horde or some such).

Agreed... well, except for the part about the spearmen, but otherwise yeah. A 40 halberd horde will do you more good than a small parent unit and small detachment.
