2500pts Army to start off with
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:57:31 PM »
Brand new to Empire, just thought id make up a list, threw in a what I thought was good. This is not a list I would use in a tournement as such, just something to base around and adapt for the average wargame down the club, just looking for people's advise on which units are not so good and which seem a must take.

2500pts

Lords: 610pts

1x General of the Empire w/Armour of Destiny= 145pts
1x Grand Master w/Runefang = 240pts
1x L4 Lore of Light Battle Wizard Lord w/Dispel Scroll = 225pts

Heros: 176pts

1x Master Engineer w/Hochland Long-Rifle = 85pts
1x BSB w/FPA = 91pts

Core: 635pts

39x Halberdiers w/Full Command = 264pts (BSB)
  • 20x Free Company or Halberdiers
  • 10x Crossbowmen
5x Inner Circle Knights w/Full Command = 155pts (Grand Master)

Special: 709pts

1x Mortar = 100pts
1x Great Cannon = 120pts
5x Pistoliers w/Muscian = 100pts
19x Greatswords w/Full Command =389pts (General)
  • 10x Handgunners
  • 10x Halberdiers

Rare: 370pts

1x Hellblaster Volley Gun = 120pts (Master Engineer)
1x Steam Tank = 250pts

Total: 2500pts

Any feedback, particularly on the lore I should use, whether a level two and maybe a warrior priest is better than a level 4. What are the best combat detachments. Also if i Did take the wizard where would be the best place to put him.

Cheers

Hello,

I just started Warhammer a few months ago so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

1. I would recommend a level 4 wizard with dispel scroll if nothing for magical defense, there are a lot of nasty spells out there.

2. If you can I recommend using the crown of command magic item on your general and put him in the halberdier block. Stubborn is just too great to pass up. Also it will pass along to your detachments.

3. I'd beef up the greatswords to 30 if you can, 20 is too little.

4. I like swordsmen for detachments if they are stubborn so that they can hold up something for a few turns, if you are looking to do damage with your detachment use halberdiers.

5. I would get a warrior priest or two in this list, hatred is great, along with the other benefits.

6. I'd get rid of the grandmaster. In my opinion our characters are meant for leadership and bonuses, not fighting.

Good luck.

I agree partly with Champion above.
Drop: Grandmaster, 10-man halberd detachment, the hochland rifle, and mortar.
Add: Crown of Command on general, shield and dawnstone on BSB, cannon #2, warrior priest, then use rest of points to beef up greatswords.

I have taken a level 4 wizard with a dispel scroll.

Thanks for your comments guys, just looked up crown of command and yes seems definately worth taking.
