Pistoliers!

Outriders may do more damage but the annoyance Pistoliers cause and the look on the faces of your opponent when he can't hunt them down is worth every point.  :icon_biggrin:

I use my light cavalry mainly for frenzy baiting, warmachine hunting and other high movement tactics so waiting a turn to shoot isn't really worth it to me. It depends strongly on what roll you want your LC to play in the army.

Outriders, hands down
But it depends on what you want them to do

I personally prefer outriders, but pistoliers can work as well. I guess you just need to try both :)

If your looking for an firing base then outriders. If you're looking for annoyance war machine hunt and march blocking pistoliers. In my opinion pistoliers are more versatile and can serve more purpose then outriders. In my experience pistoliers far out weigh outriders.

to be honest mate, on the battle field, you might as well be asking which is bettter, halberdiers or cannons.
they both have very different roles, outriders are there to cover flanks and provide fire support. pistoliers are there to hunt WM crew, re-direct and harrass blocks. totally different!
if you are already taking BS fire you'll prob get more out of pistoliers as they'll give you functionality you didnt previously have

i was contemplating picking up a box myself and was asking myself the same question. The problem i find with pistoliers is that to move, fire at long range and multi shoot your needing 7s to hit so even with 8 shots you'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 hits not to mention wounds. The leader adds 4 more shots needing 6s so maybe one more hit if your lucky (without doing the precise maths) you'd very rarely get more then 2 or 3 hits on a good day.

On that note with the outriders you can still get the 4 leader shots with the repeater pistol now only needing 5s so more reliably getting 1 hit maybe 2 with luck. So with getting 1 or 2 hits with the outriders you get a portion of the advantage the pistoliers offer whilst having the added bonus of using them at long range with their repeater rifles.

dont even think about the pistoliers as a shooting unit, the guns are just a bonus.
they are there to re-direct enemy blocks using their "feigned flight" rule and to hunt WM crews.

Outriders

Pistolier shooting is so rubbish so we just about can forget it, Outriders can do all the same tasks Pistoliers can BUT for only 3pts more each (or 15pt for the unit)
Also kick out some decent shooting so are a much more versitile unit.

its not quite that clear cut. if you want to achieve the same things with outriders that pistoliers achieve, then you sure as hell wont be using those fancy MOVE OR SHOOT guns.
outriders have to stay still to use their weapons, if they move, you might as well have saved the 3 points per model and used the pistoliers.

I know Outiders cant move and shoot...

What I was saying is as Pistolier shooting is so bad you might as well forget it.
Outriders can do all the same fancy bait and flee stuff a Pistolier can do
BUT
if the need arised you can become a shooting unit instead

In an all-comers/tourement list they would be my pick as they can do BOTH roles for only 15pts more

I was at the local battlebunker this weekend and watched an empire vs skaven match.  The Empire player had 2 units of pistoliers and a unit of outriders going, and he used them to hold up advancing blocks of troops buying time for magic and artillery to beat them down.  I enjoyed the scowl on his opponent's face every time the pistoliers unloaded on his fat blocks.  Take both!

+1 mate!
Nordland is really cool. They fight pirates and party on the beach. Sort of like a Disney film.

I think outriders get a vanguard, which sets them up really well to blow things up and control an area with their shooting.
